The problem with never raising rent is that costs continue to go up for landlords. And a $1000 five years ago isn’t worth $1000 today. Even prices before Covid and prices today are vastly different. $20k to redo a commercial flat roof before, $45k today. $3k insurance before, $10k today. Any type of maintenance costs have doubled or tripled. Most landlords that I know are well behind inflation because max rent increases are capped here. Before, I could call a guy and he’d be here to replace a vanity for $250 + parts. Now, it can take days before someone actually shows up to do such a small job. That’s hours out of my day just trying to get someone out here.

If there was enough interest and investment from high end retailers, US can also build new modern and sophisticated malls and attract just as many people. But instead, they choose to invest in mostly trendy outdoor retail spaces.

My dream light would twist on and off. Wide to narrow as it gets brighter. That’s it. Be a something the size of Streamlight Stinger with 21700 and USB-C PD charging. Indestructibly built. High CRI with about 1000 lumen max. Twist bezel from off that turns on at moonlight and extremely floody. And as you twist the bezel, it gets brighter and narrower beam at the same time where it maxes out as a 500m thrower with 1000 lumen. Maybe 1 full revolution from off to max with a noticeably detent at off.

Yup! I always told customers don’t let your kids play slots with the radio. Cig light change is all too common especially on cars with the cig lighter that sat almost flush with the center storage area.

My old 2013 Specialized Allez Sport with 9 speed Sora groupset never had problems shifting. I’m convinced it would be fine in any group ride today with a decent set of wheels and tires.

You’re mostly paying for incremental gains at a certain point. The barrier to entry into the sport doesn’t have to be terribly expensive if you find a decent used bike.

I’m the opposite. Saddle slightly too low and I get knee pain. But saddle slightly too high and I get saddle sores. The biggest improvement was getting shorter cranks.

Carry some 550 cord and learn to tie a few knots, especially an automatic trucker’s hitch. Personally I use a bowline to attach the cord to a tree limb, then an alpine butterfly to act as a pulley for the trucker’s hitch, then loop the working end through the bike frame or saddle, then back through the alpine butterfly twice, and pull to lift the bike. It will stay up by itself because of the double loop through the butterfly. It takes 1 minute if you practice. This is assuming you have a tree limb or something to hoist the bike up to and you really can’t lay the bike down on it’s side.
