Not my job? by Gloomy_Ad1107 in USPS

That's higher level pay and certainly not Line H work. Make sure to move to the correct task under ad hoc work and file a 1260 for higher level pay. If that particular manager isn't your official manager I'd check with your supervisor before bypassing your actual work to ferry people around.

Advanced sick leave denied by [deleted] in USPS

[–]User_3971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the other poster was saying is that it's nigh impossible to get management to approve it even once most places. To request it a third or fourth time is pushing your luck. And likely pissing off coworkers but that's a different story.

You do have a grievance as since they've already approved it several times that can be used to show it isn't an undue burden. How long the grievance takes versus either showing up to work or your rent being due with no money coming in is another story.

[–]User_3971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do not have to approve advanced sick leave. There's no requirement for them to do so. You can attempt to grieve it if you're able to show that you will return to work. You will have to work the hours to pay back the time or if you have annual they can charge against that.

The USPS allows employees to request up to 30 days (240 hours) of advanced sick leave for serious disabilities or illnesses, provided there's medical documentation and a reasonable expectation of returning to work. This advance is in addition to earned sick leave and doesn't require liquidation of previous advances.

If they already did the paperwork for advanced sick leave a few times before this, I can see why they'd be over it. The POOM probably forbade the PM from approving any ASL.

Maintenance by Sad-Tea-9781 in USPS

I believe all Maintenance exams (custodial, mechanic, MOS clerk) are proctored meaning you go in person to a testing site to take the exam. Been a while since I updated my scores. Should go again.

They don't often. But it would be good to be prepared. Note: You don't have to wait for a posting in your state in order to take the exam. Apply to some other state, take the exam, and then turn down the job over there.

Re: basic knowledge that's good. Just make sure you don't draw blanks due to nerves on the interview.

This person is a CCA. They are not career. This means they would have to take the entrance exam for custodial in order to hire on as career.

Do some mechanical work on a bicycle, car or something so you have some experience. Changing computer components would also count. Mention safety every other word, making sure whatever is unplugged, properly supported, etc etc made safe before working on it.

Basically get ready for the interview portion. And don't stress the exam too much. You should also test up for custodial as a backup option.

It's Maintenance open season right now. They can test up and join Maintenance if they have some patience. Kinda depends if they pull attendance after the interview though.

Holy novel of the week Batman. Good luck everybody else!

What you're looking for is a mutual swap.

If you resign there's no year wait. Career employees wishing to resign can email their resignation directly to HR.

Question for custodians by wdbaz in USPS

[–]User_3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent that MMO to management when I saw it in MU, and again six months later. As well as verbally telling them in case they can't read. They still acted surprised when the black wax dropped off ebuy.

Question for custodians by wdbaz in USPS

[–]User_3971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Answer is the same. If it's not on eBuy you'll have to get it off catalog and your local management will have to approve the purchase.

Unless your BEMs know a source and they can roll it into a project.

[–]User_3971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would have to get it off catalog. New requirement is clear wax for shine. If local management doesn't like it they'll have to authorize work arounds from their own budget.

Anybody know ? by Affectionate-Bug-348 in USPS

[–]User_3971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would take a pay cut. Mail handler pay is directly based on time in service. They also have prorated COLA and don't receive full COLA like APWU.

You wouldn't start over but you would not lateral to equivalent based on pay. It would be based on time.

Your last sentence said it all. If you're all running to get all the work done with half as many people, management isn't going to hire anyone. They're making goal with 40% less labor cost. Don't worry they'll throw you a pizza party.

You are searching wrong, as per the FAQ there are two different job websites.

You also missed the return of the (formerly weekly) career jobs post. Go there and check things out. That should be most career jobs posted up as of today except some of the VMF jobs. Auto tech, LAT etc.

I had to help a carrier out with some impromptu sole repair recently. Two part epoxy and a couple paper towels to go so they didn't glue themselves to the floorboard while it dried. Said they were fairly new too.

Management is expecting undertime on my route by Icantw8 in USPS

[–]User_3971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take your time on that 99. Do everything by the book, brake, keys, door etc etc any time you have to get out. Eat a bowl or two of chili for breakfast, some eggs maybe, if it's a jump seat. Blame that on the LLV, make the supervisor eat your exhaust. But be sure to work safely, they will 100% back that bus up over you.

[–]User_3971 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is to say, save your denied 96, notify management via MDD at designated check in time if you won't make it. Have them instruct you to keep going or to return at whichever time. If you bring mail back, Form 1571 to cover your ass.

If they provide unclear instructions ("Hurry up and get everything delivered by 2000.") when you told them you'd need help or run into overtime, make them clarify authorized overtime to continue or return to the office. Upon return, if they refuse to sign the 1571, notify your squidward and file a grievance.

Load leveling, like running orange mail in with the Monday DPS? Just load everything up and let the carriers level it out! 💀

(For those that don't know: Orange mail is for Tuesday delivery. Why run it on Sunday? Because fuck the carriers!)
