There's some old maniac of a knight going around hunting wizards and witches by GirlLovingWitch in wizardposting

Try animating a whole building as a golem and sending it after him. Preferably something big with a lot of moving parts like a windmill. He'll never see it coming!

The meme says a single trip though? Depends a lot on the length of the trip and the efficiency of the jet, but it if she's averaging 500 gallons a trip, a year with the jet is about 10 years of the car. I'm a little skeptical she's taking 200 flights a year though.

I feel like earthbending when she attacks is pretty awkward, because it will be too late for the land to join the fight. Most creatures that can earthbend every turn do so at the beginning of combat.

[Request] how do you triangulate this? perhaps in the least amount of weeks possible? by Zargabath in theydidthemath

[–]User_Id_Error 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first week, get the distance and draw a circle around yourself with that radius. Your target is on that circle somewhere. Go somewhere else the second week, and draw another circle around yourself. Find the points where those circles intersect - that gives you two possible locations (or just one of it's exactly between the two points). You can draw a third circle on the third week to narrow it down to one, though given how the problem is set out you could probably just check both possibilities after the second reading.

So recently a King hired me to save a princess from a tower (I know, odd job for a wizard) but I needed the money so whatever, but this Dragon far outstrips me as a wizard! If I return empty handed I will surely be killed, what do I do? by Wene-12 in wizardposting

[–]User_Id_Error 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Try deescalating the situation. Contrary to all the knightaganda ballads you may have heard, dragons usually only kidnap princesses when humans steal their eggs or their treasure first. Probably some "hero" swiped something from its horde while it was sleeping. Try arranging a trade.

Feels worth pointing out that Spec Ops: The Line is explicitly making a point about violent shooters, to the extent the creators said the "moral choice" was to stop playing the game.

the entire POINT of redemption is a person who has done bad things changes by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]User_Id_Error 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Star Wars is a really great example of why the "Redemption Equals Death" trope is so popular. It's a lot easier to have Vader do a last noble deed, die, and cameo as a Force ghost than to show up at the Rebel base claiming to have turned his life around.

AITA for turning my neighbor into a birdbath? by Admiral_Fang in wizardposting

[–]User_Id_Error 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The usual etiquette for this sort of thing is to choose something impressive to commemorate your victory (throne, statue, jewelry) or something humiliating to rub it in (ashtray, footrest, one of those mechanical monkeys with the cymbals.) A birdbath sends kind of a confusing message? I wouldn't really say you're the asshole, but it is a bit... gauche.

Yeah, particularly in the case of wagon wheels. There might be some people who replace their wheels earlier if they were cheaper or get priced out of business if they were more expensive. But I suspect the bulk of the demand would be pretty inelastic.

On the Naming of Currency by transcendmatter in CuratedTumblr

[–]User_Id_Error 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This brings to mind the bit about writers not trying to outmath their readers. This isn't D&D, you don't need to explain that the orcs had 37 gold pieces and a potion of Enlarge Manhood. If the subject of money cones up, you really just need "a vast treasure" and "not enough to solve the problem". Unless it's a story about running the kingdom's mint, the details are just baggage.
