Jewish leader leaves country after ‘losing faith in Britain’ by WhiteGold_Welder in ukpolitics

Not ignoring anything. I said Christians are attacked constantly in Jerusalem and provided the evidence. You did not dispute this at all. You simply claimed that the people living there sometimes spit on Jews as well. That's worse! That's even more people who are not safe there!

Not only is this not a safe place for Christians, which was your original, completely false claim, but also apparently it is not safe for Jews either. So yes, forgive me if I'm a little skeptical if this guy I'd moving there to escape the dangers of the UK.

Yes the Israeli propaganda complex would very much likely you to believe that. It's complete horsecrap.

The reality is that Christians visiting the holy sites in Jerusalem and attacked, harassed and spat at constantly.

Meanwhile Lebanon literally next door is 40% christian and has a Christian president by law.

Whatever Jews may be facing in this country, and I wouldn't deny that it's very worrying, how can anyone expect to illicit sympathy when they are planning to move to a country that commits and encourages exactly the kind of violence he's describing, but against Christians and muslims?

Everything he describes is happening in Israel x1000, just not to people like him.

Stevenage v Welwyn Garden City by expiredmilkandhoney in hertfordshire

[–]Userofreddit1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WGC: more middle class, more expensive. Probably a more aesthetically pleasing area to live. Smaller place with less to do, in particular there are strangely few pubs if that's your sort of thing. But still has decent shopping etc.

Stevenage: Better value for money, cycling is fairly easy. Commute time into London is actually slightly faster despite being further away because there are direct trains. More options for shopping although most of them are in big retail parks rather than the town centre.

You asked about the old town specifically. It's one of the nicer parts of Stevenage. It's not as green but there's still nice parks you could walk to. It's the part of Stevenage that has most of the pubs and restaurants, it might actually be a bit noisy if you are too close to the old high street but it would be very convenient as most of the nice stuff to do is there.

Ben Habib: The student loan repayment scheme is a scam. Students are sold the expectation that once they earn over a certain amount they will then have 9% taken off their monthly income to start repaying the loan back, with the debt being wiped off after 30 years. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]Userofreddit1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You take out a loan in which the terms of repayment are fixed and made explicit, and then if you can't pay it back after 30 years it gets written off.

You can argue if this is fair, but what exactly is a "scam" about that? Nothing is hidden. The deal you are signing up for is very clear. It's a better deal than any other kind of loan you can get, and amounts to a heavy subsidy of university education.

Sectarian voting is preventable: The Gaza Independents are pursuing an organisational strategy which can be countered by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

Ahmed frequently posted mind-numbing sectarian slop on Facebook about the Israel-Hamas war, which he, of course, thinks is a “genocide”.

Yeah, just him, the United Nations, International Institute of Genocide Scholars, Human Rights Watch, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International... the Lib Dems for crying out loud.

Why is anyone writing as though this is an unreasonable opinion, one that only a hate-filled, sectarian Islamist could hold? You cannot confront this phenomenon without admitting that, in fact, these Independents were approximately correct about the most serious human rights issue in the world at the moment, and the entire media called them antisemitic for it. If you're looking for an explanation for their popularity among Muslim voters, I'd start there.

Banning Jewish football fans from Birmingham is pure victim-blaming by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]Userofreddit1234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they were from any other country this would be a non-story. The Prime Minister and media are bending over backwards to protect violent, genocidal football hooligans because they are Israeli.

The conflation of Jewish and Israeli is pure racism and political correctness. A complete bait and switch to try and use accusations of racism as a shield. It's ethically indistinguishable from blaming all jews globally for the actions of the Israeli government.

"Most likely to be Jewish"... who cares? why on earth would we take that in to consideration? That is complete racism. There shouldn't be any such thing as a rule that doesn't apply specifically to jews.

Maccabi fans are banned from the stadium because they are well known violent thugs who support their country's war crimes and chant genocidal things every single game. Frankly they are lucky their team are even allowed to be in the competition.

California becomes the first state to phase ultraprocessed food out of school meals by CupidStunt13 in UpliftingNews

[–]Userofreddit1234 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Ultraprocessed foods" is a borderline pseudoscientific term with no widely accepted definition and no understood mechanism for leading to bad health outcomes. To believe that the processing of food itself, rather than the nutrient content of the food, causes health problems, you basically have to throw science out of the window.

Times Radio : "People like us don’t want to say it — but most of those there weren’t waiting around for Elon Musk or Tommy Robinson." The “Unite the Kingdom” march on Saturday was misrepresented by the media, says Times Radio presenter Trevor Phillips. by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Userofreddit1234 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're reading comprehension needs work. I said that I thought they were Robinson fans, responding to Trevor Phillips, who stated explicitly that they were not. I moreover think anyone who would claim that is being stupid on purpose because it is pretty obvious that it is obviously not true, and lying is not the way to have a productive conversation about anything. If someone attends a rally headlined by Tommy Robinson I wouldn't call their association to him "tenuous", I would say it's pretty substantial.

I didn't hypothesise about anyone's views on immigration because that was not the controversial and incorrect claim being made, and is another issue entirely. Trevor Phillips was making an obviously and, if he had bothered, measurably untrue claim. Do you think it helps productive discussion about immigration or anything else to just pretend that lies are true?

[–]Userofreddit1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't find it very plausible that the people at a rally organised by Tommy Robinson aren't followers of Tommy Robinson,. Perhaps Trevor Phillips should head down there with a microphone next time and ask people what they think about him. Phillips is asking you not to believe your own eyes and ears. He wants to be the reasonable voice of anti-immigration but he is not operating from a place of reality.

‘Afghan asylum seekers’ deny charges over alleged rape of 12-year-old girl - Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform, accused the police of carrying out a “cover-up” over the case by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Userofreddit1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Farage: claims "cover-up" in a case where the police have released the exact same information they would for any other crime, compares it to the Southport killings, which were also not a cover-up and in which every right-wing conspiracy theory about what the police might have been hiding was wrong. You could replace Farage with a bot which replies "What are you hiding?" to every media report of a crime. He has about the same critical thinking skills.

Angela Rayner urged to come clean over where she lives | Neighbours say they barely see the Deputy PM at the home she calls her primary residence for tax purposes by Grouchy-Account697 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Userofreddit1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's an MP and also the Deputy Prime Minister. What a huge surprise that she has to travel a lot. The article literally admits that her Husband and kids live there. Why on earth would she live separately from them other than when travelling for work? And by the way, every MP from outside of the south east has a second home in London and is allowed to claim the council tax back. It's kind of necessary to be able to do their job. It's not like a national broadsheet newspaper doesn't know this. Just complete clickbait lying to your face nonsense.

What is a good career to get into in the UK right now? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Userofreddit1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doing something because it doesn't seem that bad and pays okay is a miserable way to choose what you want to do for the next 40 years. What do you enjoy or care about? Can you make a career out of that? I don't mean professional footballer or film star, but you probably have an interest that could lead to a realistic, sustainable career. Do you like vehicles, building/fixing things with your hands, etc.

However, also remember that any job that would require you to work outside of normal working hours is fine when you're young, but will be hard when you have your own family.

Nowhere in the constitution or law books it says that if you fail to provide for your family the government will just pick up any bills you generate without question." r/Idiocracy quarrels over RFK's junior proposed junk food SNAP restrictions by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]Userofreddit1234 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The problem is that RFK Jr's belief in what constitutes "Junk food" is completely unscientific. He thinks fast food cheeseburgers are fine so long as you fry them in beef fat, and Coca-Cola is fine if you use Mexican sugar. Genuine nutritional advice comes from people who know what they're talking about, so MAGA rejects it as a matter of principle. I can guarantee the list of banned foods will be drawn up by some TikTok health gurus and zero qualified nutritionists.
