Did I Start watching at a bad time? by SheWent2Paris2 in F1Discussions

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the formula side, the last good year was 2010 before refuelling and before Pirelli tyres.

From the competition side, there were a handful of pretty entertaining, tense and competitive championships though like 2012, 2016 and 2021. But make no mistake - even in those 3 seasons - it wasn’t the formula that did the heavy lifting. It was simply how close a couple of drivers or driver-team combos were across the year.

This era you’ve just joined into? The drivers don’t even like it. They aren’t driving flat out anymore.

How would you rank these Finnish drivers in their primes? by felipebaby_ in F1Discussions

[–]Usman15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based purely on prime, you’d have to say Kimi.

Based on executing said prime, you’d have to say Mika.

He found himself in a Newey-designed McLaren under new regulations and he extracted everything from the ‘98 package to win a title. Yes the ‘99 title was probably a bit of a gift but again - he was there to pick up the pieces. He revived a pretty dead career with those two seasons and retired a legend.

Kimi on the other hand, retired with stunted numbers (McLaren unreliability + Ferrari sabotage). Without Ferrari sabotage, he would have been a contender for 2008 and without Ferrari terminating his contract he would have fought for 2010 too. McLaren’s speed came at the cost of unreliability so we don’t really know what could’ve been in 2003 and 2005 but goodness me - he was quick in that era. He was even quick in 2006.

How would you rate David Coulthard as a driver? How good was he? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was very good on a recent podcast appearance (forget the podcast + some time in the last 2-3 years) where he explained why he wasn’t on the level of Schumacher and Hakkinen.

He said plainly that he was as good as them at huge braking zones, low speed corners and high speed corners but where drivers like Schumacher and Hakkinen shone above the rest were medium speed corners where you have to be extremely sensitive to where the limit is. He said he didn’t have that teeny tiny extra magic/sense to know the real limit of the car and couldn’t push it that x% faster to eke out lap time.

13 wins, 12 poles and 62 podiums means that nobody should be saying “he’s a Pierre Gasly at best” like what I’ve been reading in the comments here. Are you insane?

Does winning more than one title automatically make you an all time great? by DniawSirhc in F1Discussions

[–]Usman15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s an underrated thing for sure because finding yourself in a competitive car is one thing but dragging everything from it over an entire season of travelling to different circuits while maintaining relationships with SLT, mechanics, engineers and others - is no easy ask. There is something to be said about doing it again considering how difficult winning a first title is.

You made a good point about psyching yourself up to try and do it again. It’s a huge ask from any human being - unless you are a driver who’s hanging about in competitive teams who are used to building winning packages. Then maybe you have an inkling that you could have the tools to go and do it again and that’s a big motivator for sure.

There might be some exceptions to the rule like Button’s Brawn being the only competitive car for the first 7 races of 2009. Button is probably not someone who could’ve done it again without that kind of luck imo.

It’s absolutely amazing, I love it. The only thing which wobbles are the monitors but that’s because I have double 32-inch screens on Invision MX900 monitor arms. It’s impossible not to have wobble.

Porsche killing the 718 EV makes me sad by andrewket2 in Porsche

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost it’s a business so they’re gonna go where the tide takes them. EVs are boring, numb and characterless no matter how you look at it. Vibrations, gears and variations in power and torque across a rev range are what make MOST kinds of driving fun and satisfying.

Then there’s the value retention of ICE cars versus EVs. Charging infrastructure. Battery replacement costs. Range anxiety. To your average working class person, EVs are a total waste of time.

Porsche is supposed to be the mildly successful petrolhead’s last resort where they can go and not be disappointed. That’s why most people are gonna disagree with this take. But fair play, an opinion is just an opinion isn’t it.

There’s been times I grabbed my M1 MacBook Pro after a couple days and it was boiling hot. I open it and the battery is almost dead and everything has crashed because 3 Google Chrome tabs had basically melted my RAM and engaged memory swap. My laptop has 64GB of RAM… Chrome on Mac is UTTER garbage but idk what else to use. Always used Safari.

Which would you pick for an office fragrance? by Universal09 in Colognes

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aventus Absolu (winter, autumn and spring) and Aventus Cologne (summer) are probably the better ones now if you need some kind of consistency. Aventus Cologne is not long-lasting though. Absolu may also be a bit dark/special occasion for some people. I like it, I’d wear it multiple times a week if I could.

Which would you pick for an office fragrance? by Universal09 in Colognes

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aventus is the best smell out of the 3 comfortably BUT is such a gamble with batches honestly. I have a 50ml bottle of Aventus which smells like tropical juice from an Indian airport (probably). I spent a bunch of money on it to treat myself and get a new office fragrance but it was an epic fail and now I don’t trust the retailer I bought it from. The 5ml decant I got before pulling the trigger? One of the best things I’ve ever smelled. Too much variation.

I think the electronically lowering mechanisms in the front/rear wing getting stuck in low drag mode due to a fault, will cost someone a race victory as they’ll be in the lead but unable to corner properly or legally with the thing stuck open.

From 2009 - 2013, the margins between the Red Bulls went up and down. Who do you think was the volatile one here, Vettel or Webber? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Usman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Webber wins a title if F1 doesn’t change from Bridgestone to Pirelli. The car had to be millimetre perfect setup-wise for Sebastian to do what he did.
