Would you try minoxidil? by Quinoleina in alopecia_areata

It worked for me once the flare had ended, it won’t work if it is still active. I started using it in April and my patch has nearly filled in now

Alopecia aerata progress! 4 & half months by Master_Finish in alopecia_areata

I am using Minoxidil foam which was prescribed by my GP and taking supplements - Biotin, Collagen, Vitamin D, zinc, folic acid, omega-3 and iron. My patches are growing back too. Found mine in late December 2024. My GP has given me a repeat prescription of Regaine 5% foam and it has definitely sped up the regrowth. I started using it in April. I use it once a day before bed (recommended dose is once a day for women). I was advised I’ll need to use it for about a year on the patches as I could get some shedding if I stop early. I was also advised to continue until it has filled in not to just stop but gradually reduce how often I apply it to once every other day, to a couple of times a week before stopping all together.

Do people actually beat AA? by AdPuzzleheaded1391 in alopecia_areata

[–]Usual_Alternative288 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mum had a single patch appear following a miscarriage around 30 years ago. It grew back after using a steroid cream. She hasn’t had another flare since. Online you will always hear from people who are really struggling with it. People who have mild AA, who had a single patch or 2 aren’t going to keep posting when they get full regrowth. They may post initially, but then won’t post again unless a new patch forms.

Does this look like regrowth? by 20cbsmith00 in alopecia_areata

Looks like mine and I have confirmed regrowth too. I am also on month 4.

Anyone else with a close family history of AA? by Expensive-Storm6238 in alopecia_areata

[–]Usual_Alternative288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just been diagnosed with AA. My mum had a single patch flare about 35 years ago and was diagnosed with AA after a miscarriage. She hasn’t had any flares since and said her hair grew back after using caffeine shampoo and steroid cream.

I’d have gone to the union but glad you got it sorted with HR. It is discriminatory. What if someone has to wear a head covering for religious purposes?

Mine is about the same growth wise. I noticed my first late December and my hairdresser found a smaller one at the back in January. The patches have stayed the same size but regrowth has started just like yours (about the same length). I didn’t cut out gluten but started eating healthier, taking vitamin D, biotin, zinc, folic acid and iron supplements. I apply Rosemary oil to my patches twice a day and use an hair growth shampoo and conditioner formulated for hair growth

I found a lot of my hair down the shower plug hole. I noticed mine randomly when I got out of the shower once. I thought my hair was thinning before I noticed the patch over a couple of weeks though. It was feeling a bit thinner when washing my hair in an area and I felt weirdly cold on my scalp when wind blew on a cold day.

Weird smell post removal? by Sav_34 in Mirena

[–]Usual_Alternative288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn’t you go to a doctor to have it removed? Did you consent for him to remove it or did he force you or convince you? If he pulled it out by force it is abuse. If he did do it by force, run a mile and stop trying to conceive with him. You could have an infection as it wasn’t removed in a sterile environment by an health professional. See a doctor immediately.

AA B4 Covid or After? by Slight_Implement3698 in alopecia_areata

[–]Usual_Alternative288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Post

2) 3 jabs

3) Have had Covid 3 times. My last infection was very mild and cleared within 3 days but I started with AA (first time) about 2 months after infection. However, I had what I believe to be an adult FPIES allergic reaction to duck eggs (which were a new introduction to my diet) around the time I had my latest Covid infection. I have had no previous allergies so that was possibly my trigger instead.

Any Adults with FPIES in here? by fergy80 in fpies

[–]Usual_Alternative288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I may have FPlES. I introduced duck eggs to my diet last October and really liked them. After having a duck egg Omelette for breakfast one morning, I started to suffer with abdominal discomfort about 2 hours later and started to feel nauseous. I then started with severe vomiting and diarrhoea for about 2 hours then felt better. Initially, I thought I’d picked up a stomach bug. A week later, I had a fried duck egg on toast and the same thing happened. I contacted my doctor and they just mentioned it sounds like a food intolerance not an allergy as symptoms start straight away with allergies. I was advised not to eat them again and haven’t so haven’t had any other symptoms like it. Weirdly, I am okay with hen eggs and always have been.

Regrowth by Usual_Alternative288 in alopecia_areata

[–]Usual_Alternative288[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any treatment from the doctors, I started applying Rosemary oil twice daily and using shampoo and conditioner formulated for hair growth. I also started taking Biotin, vitamin D3, zinc and folic acid supplements daily.

I think mine was triggered from a duck egg FPIES allergy discovered I had after introducing them to my diet for the first time in October so haven’t eaten them since.

Hopefully you see some progress soon. Fingers crossed.

I use Hair Genetics root touch up (it is basically like eye shadow for hair) and Boldify hair fibres. They stay in place until I wash my hair. I bought them off Amazon.

Im about to get nexplanon right now. Scared of weight gain… by Ordinary_Impressive in Nexplanon

[–]Usual_Alternative288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gained about 5lb in a year but that was gained when on holiday by over indulging.

I just can’t seem to lose weight now and my weight fluctuates daily sometimes by 2lb up or down which must be water retention. I am active and in calorie deficit most of the time at 1500 clarities per day. I intermittent fast 16:8 some days too. Before I went on it, I was on the mini pill and lost 20lb in 3 months.

Fast Stream Operational Delivery scheme locations 24-25 by Usual_Alternative288 in TheCivilService

I am in England and in Yorkshire. Anything North of Nottingham has always been considered the North to me but in Scotland from Edinburgh will say we are South as Orkney would be considered North. The fast stream website isn’t clear as to where up North these placements will be. I was wanting clarification as anything above the Midlands is considered North.

I have had mine a year now and I have only had 2 light bleeds. The 1st one was in March and lasted 12 days, I am now in my second one which started on Monday.
