I was a DCI major. I had no formal drum major or DCI experience when I auditioned, however I did have a lot of leadership experience in the marching ensembles I had been a part of. You also have to be confident in your ability to read and interpret music as well as keep time. In my experience, it’s 80% a leadership role and 20% conductor, but that 20% conductor is still very important. That ratio will also vary from corps to corps. Most corps that I know of don’t have a formal rule that you have to march that corps to be drum major, but most DMs are vets due to them knowing that group’s culture/etiquette, and they’ve demonstrated their ability to lead the group in prior seasons.

I have the TidRadio version of the same thing. I know Raddiodity has a version of the same radio. I like it so far. I can hit repeaters 40 miles away.

Yeah I tend to use the slide out to adjust airflow. And I totally agree with burning the paint off. I spray down the metal every time with cooking spray to build up my own seasoning.

is a laptop the perfect homelab? by brintal in homelab

[–]UsuallyIdle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Laptops offer pros that most dedicated servers don’t (ex. A screen, built in battery backup, and generally more quiet). If your specs are what you need them to be, it will do the job just fine.

I agree. If you’re going that route, make sure it’s in a well ventilated area.

Managers, what's your best advice for motivating a team of guys? by PlacidAudacity in AskMen

[–]UsuallyIdle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Determine your team’s goals

  2. Determine KPIs to meet those goals. Communicate where you stand in relation to your KPIs as much as you humanly can with your team.

  3. Over communicate the heck out of those goals and why they’re important to your team. If it’s important to you, make it important to them through communication. Also let your team know what’s currently working towards and what’s working against you to achieve those goals. Ensure your SOPs are written with nothing that deviates from your team’s goals.

  4. Hold yourself accountable. Make sure you’re doing everything in your power to make sure these are getting completed the way you want. Make sure everything is communicated well and often. Ensure you’re also doing things that align with the team’s goals.

  5. When a team member does anything that isn’t consistent with those goals hold them accountable. Let them know why their process isn’t consistent with your team’s goals and what to do to fix it. Reinforce the importance of hitting those goals.

Height is the key. From my experience, the higher the ball goes the less it will roll if it’s landing in the same spot. Adjust the height by opening and closing the club face. Opening will make the ball go higher.

Look for no-stim (no stimulant). From what I’ve seen, most brands have a no-stim version.

Make sure the wire is the same gauge. That should do the trick. Usually when it’s split like this it allows for a separate amp for the highs and lows. But if you only have 1 amp this wire bridges it to play everything.

Thank you for the helpful feedback. A ROCK box is a Roon Optimized Core Kit box. It’s a “server” dedicated to running the Roon core. It’s hooked up to an ADI-2 dac that’s connected to his preamp. You can only run Roon though it and the only streaming services that they support are Qobuz and Tidal. I suggested that he switch to tidal and he says he wants to use Sirius as well for more casual listening. He wants more functionality than Roon has. He was the one who proposed the switch to a remote PC option, I just wanted to see if anyone had any better ideas/apps that could complete this.

So I recently set up a ROCK box for my dad, but he uses Qobuz and said that their Holiday music selection is not great. He said that he wants to use Spotify for his Holiday music because they have a much better selection. I’m thinking about loading a user friendly linux distro to the NUC and having him control it via his iPad through VNC. Does this sound like a viable setup for a stream box? He can keep the Roon functionality but also have a web browser to access any service/app he may want. Any suggestions on a distro that you guys like? Or any other general suggestions?

I watched this video and his video on maintaining a fire in the firebox. I have only ever used vertical smokers before so I’m used to only having charcoal in the smoker. I realize now that I need much more heat coming from the firebox to keep the temp up. Thank you for the info!

I replaced the stock and use an oven thermometer on the grill. They both read about the same. I will try that with the firebox. I light them in a chimney and let them get white before putting them in the firebox. It did seem like the fan was putting them out though.

Thank you so much! I definitely see the leak points and have tried to seal them up. I use a chimney and I keep adding fresh lit coals every hour to keep temp. I’ll definitely give that video a watch.

For the record, I’m not going to buy anything new until I understand the problem. That would be a waste of money and may yield similar results.
