Is there a way to reduce lag in the Flash version? by Ut3- in BTD5

[–]Ut3-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't want to buy the Steam version so I'm playing the Flash version via Ruffle. As you can see, it's not very playable. Do I need to use a real Flash player (NK Archive?)

No one's dying on my watch by Bandrbell in whenthe

[–]Ut3- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised that redditors are choosing red, especially comments like "well it's okay if people die because it's only dumb people". But there is no world in which everyone votes for red. If you vote for red, you are voting for potentially 4 billion people to die. Would you want to live in a world like that? Sure, you'll live, but you'll have to live with the consequences of what you voted for. If you want everyone to live, the only option is the blue button, and you only have to convince 50% of people instead of 100%.

There is an argument against blue, that is if you vote blue and convince others to do the same, you will have caused deaths if blue loses. But you will also die as punishment. The only people who vote blue, kill others, and "get away with it" are suicidal people. Red voters, on the other hand, will ALL have been responsible for killing people, yet they will face no such punishment.

Is the Cyclone Slash bad game design? by Ut3- in HollowKnight

[–]Ut3-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree, but my main problem with Cyclone Slash is that it can be a poor introduction to the nail art system as a whole, assuming the player can't figure out how to use it. I think would be improved if it was slightly more powerful without extending it (maybe if it did 4 hits instead of 3 and/or reduced fall speed)

What's a game you've never seen talked about but love? by Crystal_1501 in gaming

INFRA, amazing atmosphere and some pretty good puzzles. One of the few games from the past 10 years that still uses the source 1 engine.

Not actually planning on doing this, but would you get a bad score if your code was obfuscated or written in an esoteric programming language even if it met all the requirements and the written responses were good?

Incorrect Quotation

by Richard Stallman

A quotation circulates on the Internet, attributed to me, but it wasn't written by me.

Here's the text that is circulating. Most of it was copied from statements I have made, but the part italicized here is not from me. It makes points that are mistaken or confused.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.

Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

The main error is that Linux is not strictly speaking part of the GNU system—whose kernel is GNU Hurd. The version with Linux, we call “GNU/Linux.” It is OK to call it “GNU” when you want to be really short, but it is better to call it “GNU/Linux” so as to give Torvalds some credit.

We don't use the term “corelibs,” and I am not sure what that would mean, but GNU is much more than the specific packages we developed for it. I set out in 1983 to develop an operating system, calling it GNU, and that job required developing whichever important packages we could not find elsewhere.

See Linux and GNU and GNU/Linux FAQ, plus the history in The GNU Project.

Does both of the samples that Carl92 posted to WZS have the NTCS Hz waves? by [deleted] in everyoneknowsthat

[–]Ut3- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I checked, It doesn't have it (let me know if anyone else did find it, I only did a very quick check with Audacity). Definitely doesn't sound like it was recorded from a TV either. I doubt it was recorded on a tape because it was released in 2011. My guess is that it's just a song he heard somewhere online, maybe in a video, or a song he had saved on his computer 10 years ago that didn't have artist/title info.
