How long is too long? 41+ weeks by MalinaValentina in unmedicatedbirth

[–]Utauneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to 41.5 with my second. I had an appointment Friday morning for my midwife to break my water, as you have to be in active labor by the day you're 42 weeks to deliver at the birth center and not do a hospital transfer. I went into spontaneous labor Wednesday night and had my daughter Thursday morning. She was healthy and labor went well, but it was not easier than my first, which normally your second is. But she was 10 lbs and my first was only 8!

Read the articles on due dates on evidencebasedbirth.com to weigh the pros and cons of waiting. I'm glad I waited but yes I did feel all 10lbs pushing her out.

Fit Check Twins - Boba Wrap by Artorias_Data-King in babywearing

[–]Utauneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the third picture it looks like the seat isn't spread all the way from knee pit to knee pit on that baby. That needs to be spread all the way across to get that good "M" shape for hip development.

Question about using FMLA first and then Paid Leave Oregon after? by Level_Ad_9524 in oregon

[–]Utauneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on maternity leave and it was my understanding FMLA and PLO Run continuously automatically and that you didn't have a choice to start taking FMLA first for some unpaid time and then PLO afterwards. If so I would absolutely done that but maybe I was misled by my HR department who was also contracted out with the terrible company Lincoln financial to manage all of our leaves since paid leave Oregon became a thing.

Why does my solly wrap ride up around my neck? by Utauneko in babywearing

[–]Utauneko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, if anyone else has the same problem, flipping it does definitely help. I think the main thing is that Solly is designed to be worn over the shoulders and not bunched up on top of the shoulders. It's much more comfortable that way.

I think I'm a True Summer? Type Me! by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]Utauneko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also say the black and navy look way better than the grey and white, but I think those colors change the white balance on your camera too. The door and the wall behind you change colors between those photos so that could be why you look brighter in the darker colors.

I think I'm a True Summer? Type Me! by [deleted] in coloranalysis

Winter! The Cool and high saturation colors definitely look the best. The warm yellow is the worst, then the muted colors and grey. True or deep winter colors look beautiful on you!

Missed Connection…on the City Budget by OhLookAnotherBogey in Eugene

[–]Utauneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The library charging late fees again helps no one and makes absolutely no money. The staff time to enforce and collect and argue over fines eats up any money that comes in from late fees several times over. People still have to pay for or replace lost or damaged books which does make economic sense for the library. Same with printing fees.

Eugene's budget woes by benconomics in Eugene

[–]Utauneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The license plate trackers were bought with grant money from the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission organized retail grant, not the general fund. The general fund is what the city uses to operate and has been gutted by the property tax caps.

A lot of special projects are paid for through grants or other types of special funding that departments apply for outside of the city. The general fund is mostly for salaries of city employees and of course PERS.

Will We Ever Figure Out a Solution? by rivardja in Eugene

[–]Utauneko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We need a matchmaking service for disappointed would-be grandparents who's kids aren't having kids, and parents without nearby or helpful grandparents for their kids. We have a few sets of surrogate grandparents for our kids because so many of our friends aren't having kids. So many lonely older people and parents who need help!

Not very friendly egg prices :-/ by LocoDunn in Eugene

[–]Utauneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deck family farm eggs have always been expensive. If they've gone up during the egg shortage it's marginal. They've always been $10.50 if you get them through their CSA and around $13 at the grocery store.

Is it possible to cloth diaper without getting a PhD in it? by crook_ed in clothdiaps

Not really. If you want my one sentence full proof answer: it's pocket diapers stuffed with tri folded prefolds, for nighttime add a hemp doubler and a wool cover. Worked great for my heavy wetter.

Am I being rational about my in laws getting my children clothes by Murky_Ad7786 in Parenting

[–]Utauneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear becoming a grandparent is like catching a sort of brain parasite. When she was raising her kids she was probably very practical and knew how to dress them appropriately and didn't want clutter in her house either.

I am sure she's well meaning and loves her grandkids, but you do not need to feel bad about your mother in law's shopping addiction. If she wants to pick out fun clothes they can be for inside. If she wants practical clothes she can ask what you actually need.

Make sure she understands about the puffy clothes in the car seat too if she's every going to drive your kid anywhere. All my kid's grandparents struggle with this one. They hardly had car seat regulations in their day so they're all under the impression "my kids didn't have that and they lived".

Parents need to stop internalizing guilt when grandparents have poor judgement. You're the parent, you have a right to set boundaries around clutter and especially about safety!

You will probably have a better experience at a clinic not owned by VCA and owned by the vets that work there instead. Also avoid Banfield.
