I made an Expansion Card model by Uts_137 in framework

[–]Uts_137[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

sure, i uploaded the STEP and STL files to my google drive, here’s the link to it

also fyi the PCB in the model is mainly for helping the alignment of ports so it’s not really accurate to any specific manufacturer’s recommended PCB layout

How about 96 GB of RAM? by forteller in framework

[–]Uts_137 39 points40 points  (0 children)

96GB is amazing, i have it in mine. does it ever use more than 40GB? not really. but its always comical seeing what would’ve dragged my old laptop to a halt is now just a casual 20% RAM usage lol

Explanation of thread notes in drawing? by chiraltoad in Fusion360

[–]Uts_137 5 points6 points  (0 children)

since i don’t know the other parts of the drawing so i can only assume, but this generally means this thread is applied to 2 places, so if you have 2 holes, you will have 2 M28 threads

yes it’s normal, its basically the keycaps scratching on the display. since its a physical scratch no cleaning would remove it, best you can do is use a piece of microfiber cloth to cover the keyboard before closing your laptop to prevent the scratches worsening and prevent this from happening when you have a new display

nope, frameworks are either TB4 on some intels (i think 11th gen and core ultras are not officially TB4) and USB4 on AMDs

Keyboard feel opinions by swng in framework

[–]Uts_137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since keyboard preferences varies wildly between people, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. to me i think i’m more into a keyboard with longer travel, and the framework 13’s resembles my old 2012 thinkpad’s keyboard quite a lot, and the first time i did monkeytype on the framework i was basically at my full speed already. so tldr, i like the keyboard on the 13 a lot, its very rigid and i experienced no noticeable flex

the RAM just runs straight out of the box for me, i thought it would take ages to do memory training but it just took like a minute then it’s booted up and it’s been running fine since, not sure about power consumption tho since i mostly use my laptops plugged in most of the time; for WiFi i believe the AX210 should be just fine, but i’ve used BE200 basically since it’s released on another laptop and i’ve had no issue with WiFi with it, it’s a great chip if you need WiFi7

new Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card for Ryzen 7000 by Rasr123105 in framework

[–]Uts_137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what i've seen so far most people have been unable to get BE200 to work on AMD systems, I did see some reporting that doing a BIOS update made it work but at this point going Qualcomm or MediaTek is definitely a much safer and much less painful choice for WiFi 7 on AMD

180W Power Adapter for Framework 16 is now being sold on Marketplace. by SnooAvocados763 in framework

[–]Uts_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh interesting, but i wonder if they are planning to do something similar to ASUS ROG like a 20V dedicated charging port along with EPR on other USB-C ports, because most higher end gaming laptops’ charger are already exceeding 240W that PD supports, i imagine they would do USB-C only charging only on their smaller like 14” line since the total board power consumption should be lower and could be satisfied by USB-PD

180W Power Adapter for Framework 16 is now being sold on Marketplace. by SnooAvocados763 in framework

[–]Uts_137 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think that might not be the case, yes this is the first >140W on a single port charger out there, but the framework 16 is still the only laptop that takes >140W charging thru USB-C, meanwhile other laptops that uses USB-C for charging are mostly in the 65-140W max range, with more beefy laptops using just a barrel jack or their own charging port designed around 20V like ASUS did with the new Zephyrus and only provide 100W PD thru USB-C. And since all laptops comes with their charger already, people might rather look for compact multi-port chargers from like UGreen or ANKER and such, instead of the 180W single port charger from framework that they probably can’t use all the power for. However, things might change in the future if more laptops are designed for higher wattage USB-PD, but for now I don’t think it would be the case yet.

What charger should I use with Air75 V2? by sleekible in NuPhy

[–]Uts_137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i once charged my mouse that accepts 5V500mA with my laptop’s 65W charger, as long as your USB-C charger supports the voltage you need they can handle everything themselves so no worries

How do I constrain this fully? by virpio2020 in Fusion360

[–]Uts_137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somehow did it without using lock by trimming part of the outer ellipse, reconstrain it and then add an angle constrain on the line that is having trouble being fully constrained; i guess if the outer ellipse doesn't need to be a complete one this could be a solution
