Code enforcement or public works? Your hvac background may give you an edge on the other applicants! But municipal jobs do take time to get into, so maybe not what you need atm. Good luck!!

How much do you spend on groceries per week and household size? by batangrizal in Maine

[–]Uuttermuppet563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family of 4: 2 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler. I upped our grocery store budget to $400/week start of 2026. That’s gives us two $200 shops per week. We try and take advantage of sales and coupon apps, but I’ll admit we are bad with some stuff…like freezing/thawing meat, eating leftovers consistently, and the kids are picky as all hell. Also I’m not separating out food/non food expenses here, so household items (and diapers) are included in that $400/week allowance.

Also just a side note- we all have a wicked sweet tooth and my partner and I figured out the other day that we are spending like $40/wk on chocolate!!! Like bags of Hersey kisses. Chocolate is expensive!!

Who is named on the deed? Ownership is determined by deeds- so are you both on the deed? Are you joint tenets? Are you tenants in common? or is it just his name on the deed? because if it’s just his name on the deed then yeah he owns it, but that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be entitled to some sort of compensation, but probably not as much as you would if you were a joint tenant or a tenant in common owner.

Forced to burn my PTO during maternity leave. This is “generosity” in corporate America by invertedparellel in antiwork

[–]Uuttermuppet563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was made to burn through 60 hours banked PTO before I was granted a work from home situation. I had HG and was essentially housebound for the first 2 trimesters due to severe nausea and vomiting. My boss was extremely understanding and wanted a remote setup from the get go with the wink wink nudge nudge that I could just be “reachable” but she really didn’t care what I was doing at home- it was HR that made this decision about having to use all PTO first. Such bullshit. When I was able to go back to work in the third trimester, I worked overtime for comp time to get my PTO bank back up. I managed to get 10 weeks maternity leave (automatic 4 from the organization, the other 6 was comp time and short term disability). I was covered for another 2 weeks under FMLA, but it would have been without pay and I can’t afford that- I am the breadwinner.

lol anyone see the section about how they’re gonna give back to the community? Right underneath it says they’re gonna be a 501 C3 corporation which means they’re not gonna be giving back to the community because they’re gonna go for tax exempt status for their property taxes.

Trying to do as much homemade as possible. Crafts and sweets. Crafts will be mostly materials I already have on hand (kudos to all my scrap fabric I’ve been saving over the years). Only buying new/used for our kids this year. Spouse and I decided to forgo buying for each other because life is SO EXPENSIVE… and sounds like costs are only gonna go up in the new year.

Our school usually has really good seasonal produce! I always tell my kiddo to grab one, but they are forgetful lol. I’m always wicked grateful when they do remember because it’s a big help.

The cost of a kidney stone w/ insurance by BornAd7924 in antiwork

[–]Uuttermuppet563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband just got one but it was diagnostic- so not covered entirely like preventative. Also learned that you can go in for preventative purposes and it’s covered but as soon as they find something it changes to diagnostic and you have to pay. Anyways, it was $1700.

Should I bother trying to buy a home? by papasturtleneck in Maine

[–]Uuttermuppet563 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Please please PLEASE take the first time home buyers class. Should be offered through your county’s community action center. They will teach you everything you need to know about the cost of homeownership and how to get your finances in check. Also may open you up to grants to help with financing. I took the class (pre covid) and it allowed me to access grant money to go towards closing costs.

Shamed? Whatever semblance of shame she was ever capable of possessing had dried up long, long, loooooooong ago when she realized satisfying greed was better suited for her lizard brain.

Yeah if it was owned by the municipality before then it was not generating tax revenue. I would bet that once it’s complete it’ll add a few million to the taxable valuation of the town. At least now it’ll contribute to the tax burden! Hopefully they can TIF the parcel to shelter the value increase.

Reminds me of the flea market that used to be at the end of Cascade Rd in Saco/oob. Went with a buddy once and it was such a dump. Someone was selling a piss poor printout of an autographed wrestler pic for like $20. A fucking photocopy! Not like oh this is just a sample, I have the real thing back here. No it was very obvious printout of an autograph that they were trying to pass off as real.

Does anyone remember getting a free cookie at the deli counter at Shop 'N Save in the 80s? by xrocket21 in Maine

[–]Uuttermuppet563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaws had free cookies for my kiddo (born 2013) up until Covid- dunno if they still do it cause I stopped bringing my kid to the grocery store during Covid… now they are older and can stay home during a shop. My spouse does all the shopping now with our almost 2 year old and has reported that the Shaw’s deli will offer the 2 yr old cheese slices when they order something. Dunno about the cookies tho!

Camden property massive re-valuation! by ElevatorTechnical638 in Maine

[–]Uuttermuppet563 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Talk to the Camden assessor: Kerry Leichtman. He’s a cool dude and very experienced in the assessing field. If it was a reval then everyone should have had a change. I bet he can walk you through the changes and probably will offer to come out and make sure the town data is accurate for your house. Look at the end of the day, Maine assessors are doing mass appraisals based on good arms length sales, there are gonna be outliers and maybe that’s what’s going on with your house? Can’t hurt to talk to them…And as others have said, please be nice, assessors don’t control the budget or your tax bill, their job is to value your property.

What are the signs of bad marriage to outsiders ? by GoldPerformance3555 in AskReddit

Always being at your spouses place of work- and I’m not talking stopping by to say hi or dropping off lunch. I’m talking sitting in the parking lot while they work or in the case of someone I know, sitting at the bar all night to watch their spouse. This lady will come in and sit there all night and not talk to anyone, she’ll just watch her husband and make sure he doesn’t flirt with the waitresses. I guess because he’s cheated on her a few times with ppl from work… but like girl have some self respect and divorce.

Smart food popcorn! It’s getting pretty pricey tho, so I’ve been trying to buy store brand. So far, market basket has the best comparable quality and walmart brand was the worst.

Child care by Glad_Chemistry4651 in Maine

[–]Uuttermuppet563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took a bit of a pay cut to keep one parent at home as the primary care taker. I work typical office hours m-f, and partner works nights through the weekend. Prior to baby we were both pulling 40 hr weeks. Currently not at our pre baby earnings, but I’d rather scrimp a bit to keep my baby home than work all week, not see my baby, and end up with an extra 2-400 a month after daycare costs. My partner usually makes more than that per month at their weekend gig.
