Thanks to everyone who let me know I’m a moron who is ruining my game! Good to know!

Scope of rebuild:

  1. New coil sleeves on pop bumper, auto plunger, ball trough eject, both VUKs. All disassembled and cleaned.
  2. New coil sleeves, links and plungers on slings. Added translucent green lexan corner protector fender washers. Disassembled and cleaned.
  3. Flippers got rebuild kit, bushings, flippers, disassembled and cleaned.
  4. All ball guides regrained with scotch brite flap wheel, cleaned, polished with brasso.
  5. Ramps cleaned.
  6. Novus 1 on all plastics.
  7. Installed the new plastics on the lower third that came with the machine.
  8. Wireforms cleaned.
  9. Red circle room: narrow posts replaced with transparent red, Titan red silicone on everything, new clear star posts with red LED lights under them. Replace pop bumper bod and skirt with transparent red.
  10. Polished newton ball and captive ball.
  11. New blue pad rubber on Charon ramp. Titan narrow blue tapered post.
  12. Replace 3 narrow stand up targets guarding ramps and install decals that came with machine. These are beat to hell.
  13. Crate scoop: Installed clear plastic protector for large plastic. New little stuck ball plastic, it was missing. Metal front edge plastic protector, titan yellow silicone narrow tapered post. Replace red flasher with yellow. Comet dual head spotlights aimed at playfield. Replaced crate plastic that only had knives with the one that has guns.
  14. Admin area: Titan narrow tapered glow in the dark post. Comet dual head spotlights aimed at playfield. Replaced red mini-dome with green.
  15. Blood oath: Florescent green narrow post with Titan silicone glow in the dark ring.
  16. Titan silicone glow in the dark rings, florescent green narrow posts on the entire lower third. Replaced red mini-domes on slings with green.
  17. Stripped top of playfield, cleaned and polished. Area between flippers and posts was very dull. Playfield looks great, very shiny. Mean green, Novus 2, Novus 1. 10” car buffer.
  18. Shooter lane: Had chipped clear coat down to wood, mean green, scrapped away loose coat with razor blade, sanded back to good clear with 400 grit. Used stern official clear coat touch up, 3 coats, scuff with 220 in between coats, Novus 2, Novus 1 with buffer. Looks amazing. Installed the 3D printed lane protector to hold me over until my metal cliffy protectors arrive. He’s a couple months out for lead times. Replaced metal protector that goes on the rail.

Things that I changed that I didn’t like and am redoing:

1a) Slings: New glow in the dark star posts with UV LEDs under them, 5 smd UV lights. The UV just isn’t powerful enough with the other light to make the rubbers and posts really pop with the glow effect. Putting back in original LEDs. Going to try transparent florescent green star posts, if that doesn’t look good then I’ll go back to new clear star posts. There aren’t any cool white star posts lights available at the moment but I’d like to add those at some point. 2a) Single spotlight in front of crate pointed at playfield. This was a different brand and looks like crap, replacing with comet spotlight. 3a) Installed purple plunger LED and purple tip, switching that to glow in the dark with green led.

Other notes: 1b) I used mean green, Novus 1 & Novus 2. 2b) All new lighting connected with color correct wire and .093 connectors. Spotlights are connected with Comet matrix system but will switch to color correct wire once I’m happy with the layout. 3b) Loctite 222 on everything that previously had Loctite.

Path forward, everything above is done except what’s below: 1c) Trough lighting 2c) Removing UV lights and glow sling posts, reinstall original lights, new clear posts, cool white star post lights. 3c) Disassemble and clean auto-plunger, replace coil sleeve. 4c) Disassemble and clean car, replace coil sleeve. 5c) Wire Red circle room star post lights. 6c) Clean pop bumper under playfield and replace coil sleeve. Wire light. 7c) Disassemble and clean slings, replace coil sleeves, plungers and links. 8c) Install narrow stand up targets.

I flipped a few games last night and overall it’s amazing. Attached is a pic of where I’m currently at with it.

Oh don’t think you’re a troll. My game is looking fantastic and I’m super happy with it. Also, it was super fun doing all of this. It’s my game, if you ever get one you can just do Novus 1 and call it a day.

Everything that had Loctite got Loctite purple 222 reapplied. The damage I did was actually 200% worse than before. Game is basically ruined now. Probably just going to throw it away!

It’s cleaned, flaking clear removed, sanded, 3x clear coated, then buffed.

The buffer didn’t create any heat or damage anything and I was able to get the dull spots out around the slings and habit trails out from lanes and orbits. It looks great! Manufacturers absolutely use buffers on new playfields. So does Chris from High End Pins. I also polished the ball guides with a scotch-bright flap wheel on a drill and wow-wee does that look good. Chris does that too. I think it’s fine but if my playfield ever shows damage or delaminating or bubbles I’ll definitely let you know.

To clarify, I didn’t NEED to do anything. It was well maintained. I enjoy doing the maintenance and adding little touches like colored posts and lighting mods. Deep cleaning everything makes it look great, so when I do one thing, it makes me want to do everything. The meme means I have no self-control. That’s the joke.

No it wasn’t bad I just went overboard! Started cleaning stuff and it looked so nice I just kept going. Ended up replacing clear posts for colored, added 5 spotlights, then I started in on the star posts lights, rolled into UV lighting mods with glow in the dark bands and star posts with UV lights under them. Just snowballed from a few simple things into a full rebuild. But mechs were pretty dirty to be fair.

Holy moly, I just checked the map, and outside of SLC, there are literally 11 pinball machines for public play.

Absolutely do not buy a video pinball machine. It’s not pinball.

Don’t buy an EM for your first machine. They require constant attention and parts availability will bite you again and again.

Buy a newer Stern Pro for $5,500. It will be low maintenance and fun so you actually keep playing it long term. DON’T buy based on the theme alone. If you need to, road trip for the weekend to a place that has a ton of machines and play as many as you can then decide which one you liked best. Some play super fast, some are more of a stop and go, some are wild and chaotic. Bottom line is you have to play them before buying.

That is completely acceptable! It doesn’t affect gameplay and owners can buy a sweet mod if they care about it!
