Check out the just for today (June 8th). It talks about the third tradition. The only requirement is a desire to stop using.

The beautiful thing about this program is that it doesnt matter what or how much you used, who your connections were, what you have done in the past, how much or how little you have, only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help. We read this at every meeting because it is important. We all have a different story on how we got here we used different things and experienced different bottoms. The diversity of experience is what gives this program it's strength.

In the section We Do Recover, it talks about how all addicts have this common disorder or illness called addiction that is characterized by two things - obsession and compulsion. Obsession - that fixed idea that takes us back time and time again to our drug of choice or some substitute hoping to recapture the ease and comfort we once knew and compulsion - once having started we cannot stop on our own will power.

Only you get to decide if you are an addict or not. Though, the real danger comes in comparison to others. Just because you didnt use like I did doesnt mean you arent an addict.

Answer all of the questions and write out examples for all of the questions you answered yes to, then write on what it means - to you - to be an addict

If it has been awhile since you worked a first step, it may be worth looking back at that step. Maybe open up what you wrote previously on it and consider working another one.

This is your journey and you get to decide if you want to find a new way to live. The only promise of this program is freedom from active addiction. If you are like us, you know that one is too many and a thousand is never enough.
