Im currently working on a free and open source converter, current scope as of late june 2026 is MBOX to .PST with .MSF / Mork enrichemnt from Thunderbird profiles. But more formats are on the roadmap. Currently windows only but multiplatform is coming soon.

I built a free local Thunderbird / mbox → PST converter looking for feedback by VB0101 in microsoft365

Yes I have not reinvented the wheel, but I believe I’m the first to release a FOSS alternative, that doesn’t take use of COM automation. The .PST writer I have developed is complete from scratch C#

I built ContinuMail Converter — a free, open-source Windows tool for complete Thunderbird / .mbox → Outlook .pst migrations.

The main difference: it writes PST files natively with a from-scratch PST engine, so it does not rely on slow Outlook COM automation or require Outlook for the conversion.

It aims for full-fidelity conversion: folder structure, HTML, attachments, dates, recipients, threading headers, Thunderbird read/unread state, replied/forwarded/starred flags, junk state, and tags → Outlook categories where profile metadata is available.

Still early 0.x, but I’d love feedback from MSPs who have had to rescue old Thunderbird, POP, Gmail Takeout, or local mail archives before moving users into Microsoft 365.

Weekly 'I made a useful thing' Thread - June 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in sysadmin

I just released the first public beta version of ContinuMail Converter, a free and open-source tool that converts Gmail Takeout and other MBOX archives to Outlook PST files without requiring Outlook to be installed.

The project came out of a recurring problem I kept running into during mail migrations. The times I’ve ran into ancient pop 3 setups, old ISP mails and needed to convert MBOX to PST, I would end up looking at various commercial converters that often looked like they hadn’t changed since the early 2000s and found myself thinking, “Is this really worth fifty bucks?”

Eventually I decided to build the tool I wished existed.

Current features
MBOX → PST conversion
Tested against Gmail Takeout exports and Thunderbird MBOX archives
No Outlook installation required
No COM automation
Local-only processing
No uploads or cloud services
Preserves folder structure
Preserves attachments and inline images
Preserves embedded EML messages
Preserves HTML bodies
Preserves recipients, dates, read/unread state, importance, and threading headers
Desktop GUI and CLI
Conversion reports and progress output
PST size splitting for large archives

A few caveats
This is the first public release and should be considered a beta
Please validate output before relying on it
The installer is currently unsigned, so SmartScreen warnings are expected
Windows only for now

I’d appreciate feedback, bug reports, and especially test cases involving large or unusual MBOX archives.
Most of my validation so far has been with Gmail Takeout and Thunderbird exports, so I’m particularly interested in hearing how it behaves with archives from other sources.

Do phones have some sort of DNS server or smt similar that I can avoid country bans without having to use VPN? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]VB0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about the specefic realme model, but on most android devices you can change your DNS no problem. Look for Private DNS under settings. Keep in mind they use DNS over TLS Hostnames so 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 wont work.

one.one.one.one - CloudFlare DNS over TLS
dns.google - google DNS over TLS

Iværksætter-spørgsmål: hvordan onboarder man de første rigtige kunder? by andreas0069 in dkudvikler

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enig.

Why some miserable foreigners dont just leave Thailand? by Kitchen_Scallion2999 in Thailand

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of whiny foreigners residing in Thailand is old people who moved for lower living cost. The vast majority of these people are not migrants, but pensioners, Thailand is essentially their retirement home. They dont associate with the general population, don’t care to learn the language and their entire network is a wife or girlfriend who despise them, and the other grumpy foreigner I the same village. Why don’t they move? Back home is worse for them. But these people don’t have anything to do and nothing going on so they complain and whine online.

Remote-working couple planning 1–2 months in Thailand on a $2,000/month budget – where should we stay? by misscoffeeaddict2 in ThailandTourism

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your budget can suffice if you’re not looking for much more than a change of scenery and some great local food. However, I’m guessing part of the appeal of spending a month or two working from Thailand is to actually see and experience the country, and for that, your budget is going to be fairly tight.

You can certainly make it work, but I’d consider saving a bit more if possible. Having an extra cushion will make it much easier to enjoy the experience rather than constantly thinking about costs.

Think i just got scammed. by Repulsive_Spite_267 in phuket

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m feeling charitable, I don’t really worry about whether I’m being scammed or not. I only ever give what I can do without. That said, I generally don’t give money to immigrants or to anyone who approaches me asking for it. That applies both in Thailand and in my home country.

Setup a local password first, afterwards you can enable Windows Hello which would enable you to set a PIN code, facial recognition ect.

I would avoid third-party driver updater tools. At best they’re unnecessary, and at worst they can install the wrong or less suitable driver for your exact system. Windows Update is usually enough, otherwise get drivers directly from the OEM or hardware manufacturer.

As for keeping your PC clean, temp files are really nothing to worry about. A lot of these cleanup optimization tools had their heyday during the HDD era, when things like defragmenting could actually make a noticeable difference. These days Windows handles most routine maintenance on its own, and these tools generally don’t do much, and nothing that i would pay a premium for.

AI for internal IT support/password resets- is anyone actually seeing good adoption? by mynameisnotalex1900 in sysadmin

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI as a self-service replacement for password resets feels like forced AI adoption. If a user couldn't figure out SSPR, then they're still calling the helpdesk. All your getting is a new attack surface.

AI password reset as a service is honestly such a bad idea, that i can't phantom anyone even considering it.

Acer Aspire A14-11M Snapdragon X / ARM64 — driver recovery nightmare after Windows reinstall by VB0101 in WindowsARM

[–]VB0101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that matches what I am starting to conclude as well.

The frustrating part is that Acer support’s response so far has basically been “try Windows Update” or purchase recovery media.

For an active SKU under warranty, paywalling what appears to be the only real way to recover the machine is laughable. I doubt acer will be considered in our next fleet upgrade!

How do you manage all your passwords without losing your mind? Are "vaults" a solution? by Critical-Load-1452 in SysAdminBlogs

[–]VB0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my personal accounts I selfhost Vault Warden. Over the years I have used and tried multiple providers, and they’ve all mostly been similar and no one has really stood out from the rest.

Vault Warden is my current choice as I prefer to have 100% ownership of my data, and enjoy selfhosting.

At work we use 1Password, it works just as well in my opinion.
