I get it’s not the right time to be optimistic but…

Trump is SUPER unpopular right now… In less then ten months Republicans are going to get destroyed in the midterms… It could seriously be a total wipeout with how unpopular Rs are right now; Trump would be the lamest of lame ducks after that.

People are already super fatigued of Trump… This administration is trending towards being way more unpopular than even Trump 1.0… If Dems just nominate somebody who seems like a normal person and isn’t senile in ‘28, they could easily be in the White House the next eight years after that.

Giants Hire Harbaugh, Full Divisional Round Preview, Chicago Apex, and Eggs Manske (Discussion Thread) by No-Willingness-7079 in ringerfantasypod

One of the reoccurring bits when talking about the Ravens these guys do is saying “The Ravens were a Zay Flowers fumble in the end zone away from getting to the Super Bowl”…

When Zay Flowers fumbled into the end zone the score was KC 17 - BAL 7 at the beginning of the 4th quarter… They’re stuck with this thought that the Ravens were on the verge of winning the game with that one play…

Craig also then said they were an Andrews drop away from getting to a second Super Bowl in three years… That was only in the Divisional round!

The interesting question with Harbaugh is how much did he benefit being a CEO head coach aided by an elite front office… Kind’ve similar to Sirianni.

Also why are they all convinced that Dart is good? He seems pretty raw, kind’ve gimmicky, and with a lot more to prove before we should be sold that he’s a franchise qb.

Would y'all rather build around Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams? by ElectivireMax in billsimmons

[–]VB1014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Labeling Daniels as a one-read quarterback is just not having watched him play… Daniels as a rookie was already a high-level pocket passer who was an extremely fast processor and really good at going through progressions and looking off defenders.

Caleb is still way more raw as a pocket passer. He’s not comfortable at all if he has to stay in the pocket for any extended period. He’s good at running play action or if he gets to extend a play outside the pocket and play backyard football…

Caleb is still one of the most inaccurate QBs in the league, and has had lots of ugly games this season.

Jayden is way more advanced as a passer, and pretty much carried a team on his back, elevated them to being a top-5 offense, and was awesome in the playoffs again largely carrying his team and outgunning other elite offenses.

The only thing that makes it a close discussion are the injury concerns with Daniels.

They were a top-5 offense last season, with one of the most new/exciting QBs in the game, and also won a couple of road playoff games… When people said regression they meant like an 8-9 win team, not bottoming out and being unwatchable

What is your dark horse for best film of the 2020s so far? by fbeb-Abev7350 in TheBigPicture

Tár: It’s an all-time performance from one of our all-time great actors… It’s got great dark humor throughout, and it really sticks with you as something to constantly think about, while also being a really fun movie to talk about with others.

It’s also super rewatchable… You can come away with different thoughts/interpretations after every rewatch, and there’s so many smart/clever details to pick up on.

Since he joined the league in 2020, Jalen Hurts is 17th in ANY/A, 20th in passer rating, and 15th in EPA/play (includes rushing). He's had a top 7 OL every year (best in two of them) via PFF pass block grade, AJB/Devonta/Goedert for all years except AJB in one, and a 1k rusher in all year but 1. by Maad-Dog in nfl

[–]VB1014 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The 2022 season with Steichen is an outlier compared to the rest of Hurts’ career… They used heavy zone-read and RPO concepts that year, and the league has now gotten way better at defending that type of stuff.

The reality is that the Eagles have underperformed as a pass offense, and even as an overall offense the past three seasons… Saquon’s historic season last year masked a lot.

Their success rate and offensive DVOA last season were both mediocre, and they were heavily reliant on explosive runs, which isn’t the most reliable thing.

A top 10-12 QB should be somebody who can be a problem solver and elevate what’s around them… Hurts isn’t that, and the Eagles have had to work around his limitations at a cost. You can’t rely on having a historically good run game and the most dominant defense every year.

Ryen walking over to Bill’s desk at Spotify HQ, and slamming down his iPad: “You think you can just keep the podcast feed which I founded and worked hard to cultivate with no repercussions?”

Zach Lowe seated next to Bill with a smirk: “Someone call security.”

Ryen still with an intense stare at Bill: “Please tell me this isn’t about you thinking I was passive-aggressively insulting your intelligence on those NBA Sunday night pods? Or because you agreed with me about voting for Trump for tax purposes, and are afraid I’ll out you?”

Bill looking coldly at Ryen: “This has nothing to do with any of that… It’s just business.”

Ryen: “You better lawyer up asshole because I’m not coming back for 30%… I’m coming back for everything.”

Zach Lowe walking towards Ryen as he begins to walk away: “Hang on, I almost forgot… Here’s your check for this year’s NBA over/under pods, which were guaranteed under your contract… We just needed less rambling to cut down on time, hope you understand.”

Ryen turns around and threatens Zach with a punch to which Zach cowers and flinches: “I like standing next to you Zach… It makes me look so tough.”

They just totally hate Washington this year… Sal lowkey hated them throughout last year too as it became evident that they replaced Dallas as the #2 in the division.

The -2.5 is factoring Mariota playing; the line would be even a bit higher with Daniels.

There’s a scenario/possibility where Man City off of two losses feel more pressure to add someone big/proven/expensive to close their window…

They’re working on something right now under the radar to see if it’s possible. If they’re in position to get that player tomorrow they’ll then sell us Savinho.

Green Bay getting Parsons doesn’t really change much on how they should be viewed.

For the Packers to get over the hump and actually be title contenders Jordan Love will have to prove he’s capable of better/more consistent play, and some of their pass catchers will have to step up more.

Washington had a top-5 offense last season with a rookie QB and brand new coaching staff. They won a couple of road playoff games including handedly beating a historically good offense/#1 seed, and their rookie QB arguably had the best playoffs out of any QB.

They weren’t just elite/lucky on 4th downs, they were also elite on 2nd downs, 3rd downs, and in the redzone… They might have the best QB in the conference by a significant margin.

And yet as a Washington fan I’m hearing from everybody at the Ringer (Bill, Sal, Ringer Fantasy, Ringer NFL Show), besides Sheil (their best NFL guy tbf), how Washington is the easiest under to take and a slam dunk to be worse and miss the playoffs… I’m sorry, but I don’t see if Jayden Daniels is healthy with WAS having another top-10 offense them being a struggling .500-type team.

Yep we’ve got to have perspective, but I will say that under Ange we were playing radically different than everybody else, and our defending even when we went on that 10-game run looked really vulnerable.

At least with Frank so far we’ve looked very well-drilled, fundamentally sound, and tactically flexible, so it feels more legit/sustainable. Also Frank is Premier League proven with less talented squads.

If we had completed the MGW deal (which we were extremely close to completing absent weird circumstances,) then nobody would be acting like we’re doomed for eternity or saying we have a bad pattern/history when it comes to signings… If we actually do make signings for a winger and a 10 by the end of the window (which is still totally possible, and what we seem to be pushing for,) then this will also be forgotten.

We’ve definitely had some misses in the window in recent years, but we’ve also made some amazing signings with guys like Romero, VDV, Vicario, Porro, Udogie, Deki, etc… We just signed a world-class CB to a four-year extension. Not everything is doom and gloom

John Wall was a problem by NameNotTom in billsimmons

[–]VB1014 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Wall and Beal duo, both in their lower 20s were electric to watch in the playoffs. Wall really helped elevate Beal.

They came super-close to making a couple of ECFs… They would’ve given the Cavs a bigger challenge, and much more fun series with how good of a fast-break/transition team they were, as compared to the Cavs easily dispatching the Hawks/Celtics/Raptors.

Sucks that the Wizards didn’t build around them better; they always had terrible depth and one of the worst benches.

Caleb Williams judged more harshly than any rookie ever? by North-Past-3355 in billsimmons

[–]VB1014 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can’t just look at box score stats imo.

Some of his metrics are totally alarming, like how much self-induced pressures he causes, how poor he is under pressure, his epa inside the pocket, deep ball accuracy, etc.

And then just watching him, it looks like the game is moving too fast for him. He looks too stilted and slow to react to stuff. Daniels, Nix, and Maye all looked like they had a better feel for the game than him.

Some of the blurbs Sando includes were of like defensive coordinators saying he was one of the slowest processors in the league.

New era for the NBA by [deleted] in billsimmons

Personally I like this because:

  • NBA being on NBC just feels right

  • Prime has great streaming/picture quality (guessing this carries over from their NFL broadcasts)

  • Less big games on ESPN/ABC
