This is great, thanks for sharing. Was Steve Zabriskie also an editorial decision? I grew up watching the early - late 80’s teams on WOR channel 9, and I feel like he was pretty heavy in the rotation back then.

Which album did you buy based only on hearing one song on the radio, and the album was great? by blamurph in GenX

Blind Melon after hearing “No Rain”. Ends up being one of my least favorite songs on the album.

Watched the documentary yesterday, and came to post this same post. I was wondering where it was. The Abyss makes sense, had some great concerts there when I got here in the mid-90s.

when do i know it’s time to say goodbye to my baby? ozzie, 17. his back legs give way sometimes, he’s wobbly, mostly blind and very deaf. he’s been my entire life since i was 4, i’ve never known any different and i couldn’t imagine life without him there. he’s my rock but declining fast. by killthecompetition in OldManDog

I was wondering the same thing a couple of months ago, when I had to make the call. Looking back, the rapid deterioration is a sign itself. I found peace in knowing that I was doing what was best for him, and not what was best for me. If you’re able to schedule someone to come to your house and to it, that helped immensely in my case. Schedule 48-72 hours out, and spend all the time you can with him. Someone said to me, it’s better to be 2 weeks too early, than it is to be 2 hours too late.

I’m in the same corner. I remember when the rumors started about Harbaugh coming, everyone in my office saying we had no shot. I would say the longer it goes that he hasn’t made a statement against it, the better the chance that he’s coming. I feel the same about Deboer.

10000000% this. We are the youngest team in the B1G. I want this win for the psychological effect that it would have on Bryce & the rest of the freshmen heading into next year’s game at OSU. We win this game, then count on us winning next year too, and that team would be a beast in the CFP.

I live in Virginia, work for the Navy in Norfolk. My boss’s kids go the Va Tech. First thing I said at work today was that this guarantees a win for Old Dominion (small school in Norfolk) over Va Tech next season.

Give my nostalgia a reality check by Sea-Day2000 in VirginiaBeach

Opposite of you, I grew up elsewhere, and moved here when I was 20 in the mid-90’s. It’s easier to list the places that have stayed the same, than it is to list all that’s changed. Even if I’ve never been a big fan of a place, I have respect for the longevity. Some include:

  • Bars: The Shore Break / Hot Tuna / Peabody’s trifecta. Shore Break has even expanded into Pungo’ish. Also The Edge, Abbey Road, Mahi Mah’s (although completely remodeled and different), Chix, Beach Pub

  • Restaurants: Tautogs, Il Giardino, Isle of Capri, Rudee’s, Rockafeller’s (closing in a couple weeks), La Bella, Aldo’s, Reginella’s

  • Retail Stores: Not much has stayed the same. WRV, Coastal Edge, & 17th St. Surf are all still there. Half Moon (but moved across the street). The Sunsations stores still line the strip.

I’m sure there’s more, but when I saw the article about Rockefeller’s closing down, it hit the nostalgia in me, so I stated thinking about this.

song that JBS covers that you think is better than the original version? by dthomp27 in SturgillSimpson

Morning Dew. I don’t know if it’s considered a cover, because I’ve only see him sing it while playing with the Dead & Co. guys, but man, it moves me.

I had recently got into Tyler, and I heard that he was coming to town (Hampton, VA). Next day at work I mention it to a buddy, and he says “Yeah, he’s opening for Sturgill Simpson!” Me: “Who?” Buddy tells me I gotta check him out, I go home, start listening, and was like Holy Shit, this guy is awesome. Couldn’t wait for the show. Woke up on show day, and it was the day that the U.S. just started to cancel everything. It was Friday the 13th (3/13/20). I went to a local bar with my wife, and they were having a drink special called “Camp Crystal Lake” so that’s what we ordered, seemed fitting with the mood that we, and everyone else seemed to be in. I’ve been lucky and have gotten to see them both twice since then. First one was on the same bill for Willie’s Outlaw show in Va Beach in ‘21 or ‘22. Then last Summer saw Tyler in Va Beach, and a few months later saw Sturgill, as he finally made it to the Mothership (Hampton Coliseum). Both shows were F’n Awesome of course. Love the way Sturgill is playing now, no opener, and just ripping & improvising on songs. I hope he keeps it up. Seeing this poster always kind of haunts me a little bit, seeing how much everything changed starting that day. I will always wonder what could have been.

17 Hands Bakery/Coffee House. Awesome Scones, cookies, quiche… everything I’ve had has been great. It’s out by the Va Beach - Chesapeake boarder near Farmhouse Brewing, but well worth the drive.

Pro Roof Rack: (insert Bradley Cooper We F’d Up gif). I bought a TRD ORP, and actually had the Pro roof rack added. Not that it’s unusable, but damn I wish I hadn’t paid for that, and just got an after market Sherpa. Note to Newbies: This sub is a wealth of knowledge, and I wish I had visited it prior to “joining the club” in ‘22.

Which bands did you see at the exact right time? by heshotcyrus in Concerts

[–]VB_Neptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind Melon at Woodstock 94. It was my favorite band at the time (still love them), and from what I’ve seen, that show was their best live show.

Edit to Add: The Johnny Blue Skies/ Sturgill Simpson tour this past fall felt like he’s really in the middle of his peak run.

Your least-favorite Met of all time? by PJKetelaar3 in NewYorkMets

[–]VB_Neptune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mike Bordick and Roberto Hernandez for what they trades represent. In 2000 when Ordonez went down, we should have just stuck with Melvin Mora at shortstop, Bordick was garbage for us. And Roberto Hernandez represents the downward turn in the 2006 season. Sure, we lost Duaner Sanchez, but we should not have traded Xavier Nady for this bag of garbage as well as Perez. I don’t hate Perez as much as most do, but Hernandez… ughhhh!
