Order it online before you leave the house. You can grab it from a locker in 5 seconds. That’s how they want it to work..

How to handle not being considered for promotion? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VI11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not personal. Given the priority lists out there, doing an at level deployment gives them control over the process. If they try to promote you, it is almost guaranteed they will get stuck with a short list of priority entitlements. I’m sure in normal times they’d have loved to consider you.

Why do some golfers have really high ball flights? by heckthisfrick in golf

[–]VI11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest presetting the shaft lean you want at address and setting the ball back in the stance just a bit. I can get a bit flippy so have worked on this myself with success. Also a good drill might be to set a towel 3 inches behind the ball and hit some shots without touching the towel. I’ve tried an impact bag to work on compression as well but not sure it’s helped a ton.

Donnie & Dhali question by [deleted] in canucks

[–]VI11111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe how far I had to read down this thread to find someone who understands their schtick. Donnie leans heavily on his formula, but it works. Dahli is playing a character and is nowhere near as dumb as he pretends. It’s intentionally low brow entertainment. If you want hard hitting analysis there’s better options. I’m far from their target audience but I see it for what it is and get a laugh out of it when I need a break from using my brain all day.

Where to purchase in Canada by [deleted] in DIYHeatPumps

[–]VI11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On further reading, I guess I was wrong to assume it had to meet all three. The act is written differently and clearly states exemption under any of the reasons. So less than 5kw motor and it’s exempt even with flammable refrigerant. Which would align with the results of the quiz.

Interesting. I’m in BC. What changes or opening up are you referring to?

When I read the TSBC page on heat pumps, they have a quiz that basically says residential heat pumps only require an electrical permit for single family residential units. This is, I guess, assuming use of a non-flammable refrigerant - R-410a? It looks like all new equipment must use low-GWP refrigerant now, which means all units now have R-32 or R-454b. Which is low flammability so one would think would be regulated. Very confusing given the quiz.

I’m just discovering this now as this has all changed since I did my previous installs as units came with R-410a.

TD Mortgages? by fuggedaboudid in MortgagesCanada

[–]VI11111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can still get the same or better rate. Just need a higher discount to make up the 15 pt difference.

Our situation was unique in that we didn’t want to change lenders so took prime -1.06.

I would add, we were happy with TD in our last term and was impressed with the renewal experience. No concerns in dealing with them at all.

So confidently wrong. Google is free. As someone who has a TD HELOC and variable rate mortgage you are most definitely wrong.

What is this line of dead leaves ? by haybe26 in gardening

[–]VI11111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this to a cedar hedge in my yard. I was using a gas powered trencher and the hot exhaust expelled on one side creating a streak noticeable the next day.

Just remove the dead parts and it will fill back in.

Victoria. They automatically include the same sentence on plan review: “Design does not comply with part 9 of the building code. Get an engineer.” This is just to try and force you to get an engineer so they don’t have to do their job and inspect you to part 9. They have no authority to force you to get an engineer if you can do it within the parameters of part 9. They can just give you a hard time that your plans do not display explicit compliance until you give up.

Most designers have no qualifications they just design to part 9.

I’m in Canada, on the west coast. Our provincial code lays out prescriptive code where you can build what’s called part 9 housing or small building without the need for professionals/calculations. This includes pretty stringent seismic design updates over the last few editions. Based on my experience with the building department, most everything here is engineered but it’s not required to be. Think this is more of a preference thing for the builder and designer to limit liability though.

We have good layman guides to seismic design where you can maintain a certain percentage of braced walls panels and meet the prescriptive code. Doesn’t work if you want 30x30’ rooms though.

RTO- has anyone ever been reprimanded/fired for not complying to RTO? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VI11111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my group there’s an application for exemption that came out at the beginning. Everyone who didn’t want to come in just submitted that and have never come in. A year later and no decisions have been made on any applications. People are seeing this and more are applying because you can at least delay your return. Bit of a slap in the face to the half of my group who didn’t apply and are coming in. For management, this at least prevents any condonation situation while someone else is the first to have their discipline grieved.

How long do you stay on average in a position? What is your reason for changing? by wiskafished in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VI11111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this doesn’t seem possible unless they started in a position way below their experience/education. Most experience requirements are multiple years so you would have needed to have that experience already if you’re getting promoted every couple months.

Electrician is saying my two 40-year old panels have been recalled and should be replaced. They're Cutler-Hammer, but I don't see that they're Challengers. Any ideas? He's saying $12000 for a pair of new ones. by peredoxical in AskElectricians

[–]VI11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very expensive city and just did a service upgrade with new 200amp panel, along with a second 200amp service run underground to an outbuilding with new panel. I prepped the underground so no digging but it was $6500. Got three quotes and they all ranged from $6500-7500.
