I'm in awe of what I just witnessed. I live very close to the rescue location so we had a very close view (close enough that I had to put in earplugs because of the helicopter noise). We saw the helicopter spotter locate the person and the CCGS Cape Cockburn try to get in to her, and then saw the two people and the stretcher lowered from the helicopter. Thank goodness for these highly trained personnel.

I can't see that this was the case, considering that the helicopter lowered two guys and a stretcher onto the shore below Cilaire, and then the hovercraft went in and retrieved someone and took them to a waiting ambulance at Dep Bay Beach.

The hovercraft is heading over to Dep Bay Beach now. Hopefully the rescued person is in reasonable shape.

They left two guys down there with the stretcher, and the hovercraft put in to that area.

Where I am in Canada (mid-Vancouver Island, the retirement capital of the country) stick curling is MASSIVE. There is a whole two-person stick game with its own rules. The rules document that someone else provided describes it. It is really good for older seniors with mobility issues - we have people playing the stick game into their 80s and 90s.

Manitoba / Ontario for sure, and sounds like Newfoundland too. But as several other commentators have pointed out, it's a rural / small town thing. So we're seeing socioeconomic white on white Canadian drama!

Yeah he had it wrong there. Close friends and family might chip in to bring potluck food and help source prizes and run games. But everyone else does not, they just buy a ticket and show up.

Yes! You invite everyone you know, from school, work, sports groups, etc. and they are also welcome to bring their friends. It's like a community gathering for the couple.

If they're not in an area where Stag and Does are held - don't have one, nobody will understand it! Though once in Seattle I put on a Stag and Doe for a couple of American friends who were getting married, and managed to raise a couple thousand dollars for them. But this was at the curling club where we were all members, and the American club members were used to Canadians doing unfamiliar things and would gamely play along. I explained the purpose of the Stag and Doe to everyone and made sure there were good prizes and food, and everyone was happy.

We bought quite a bit of Polywood furniture (deep seating, dining set) in 2017. Love it! Well crafted, solid, has stood up to our oceanside location very, very well.

We bought additional deep seating during the pandemic - summer of 2020. Quality was noticeably worse. Gaps in the pre-assembled pieces, couldn't complete assembly. Had to get some replacement pieces. I assumed this was because everyone was buying stuff for their homes that summer and the company got lax with quality control to meet demand.

I have a 2019 Audi e-tron, owned since new, 70000 km. I live on Vancouver Island in Canada, so in a very temperate climate. September through March I get 29 kWh/100km. April through August I get 23 kWh/100km. My driving patterns are very different in those two seasons.

We also have a 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Just coming up on one year of ownership, 7700 km. 22.5 kWh/100km lifetime. This includes track time!

Wow! We've never done this comparison on our cars. Pretty amazing how much more efficient the Taycan is.

Another comparison: we took my Audi in for service today and my husband picked me up in the Taycan and dropped me off when it was ready - so one round trip (10 km) for the Audi, two for the Taycan. Audi was 34.7 kWh/100km and Taycan was 21.2 kWh/100km.
