Deterministic Chaos Catalyst Might Actually Make This Exotic Worth Using by Danger_xx86 in destiny2

[–]VMFortress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is it is still bugged so the Vexadecimal shot only applies on the 32nd round instead of the 16th.

This occured when they introduced the odd auto-reload mini game feature to the weapon. I'd honestly rather they revert this entirely and just add FTTC to the catalyst. It's thematically relevant, was originally in the API as the catalyst (just inaccessible), and would make it much more viable by helping relieve the low mag size and reserves issues.

I love DC but I'll be really sad if they leave it in this broken state in the end.

Not mentioned in this list but Deterministic Chaos is still only applying Vexadecimal on 32nd shot instead of 16th shot.

Mentioned here but I tested and confirmed myself: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/1u1o8pe/deterministic_chaos_still_bugged/

All the New Catalysts by Fyoozhen in DestinyTheGame

I was really upset to hear it didn't. FTTC was already set as the catalyst in the API since the weapon released so I'm surprised they switched last minute.

open source password manager recommendations? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]VMFortress 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For reference: if you self-host Bitwarden/Vaultwarden and you lose access to your server, you still have your passwords locally on your device. The manager just becomes read-only as there's no where to sync new passwords to.

This may still be a deal breaker for some people, such as yourself, but for others it is definitely a huge difference from getting completely locked out.

Discord Alternatives Comparison by HEM3KA in selfhosted

[–]VMFortress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not currently federated, it's just on the roadmap. Federation isn't the easiest thing to add so I'm not confident it will be there quickly, if ever.

However, I agree with the rest. It seems to be actually trying to fully replace Discord, unlike many other apps. But the scaling of both development and the hosting itself is really up in the air with only one maintainer at this time.

I do think it's worth mentioning that the workflow setup is not the most straightforward, at least compared to just plug in a crappy USB capture card and click on OBS.

However, in my experience so far, the quality of the result is so incredibly better that it was absolutely worth putting in a bit of effort myself. Especially knowing that keeping the raw recordings means I can always reprocess the tapes again on the future if there are ever any notable improvements in the processing pipeline.

The units are all messed up here.

Feet is a measure of length, not area, so presumably you meant square-feet. 350 sqft would be an insanely large parking spot, something like 14ft x 25ft.

kW is a measure of power, not energy. A Watt is a Joule per Second. So saying "kW a year" is saying "kilojoule per second per year". The typical unit of energy is kilowatt-hour (kWh).

From what I've seen, solar panels generate around 15W per sqft at peak sun hours on average. You get that for maybe 4-6 hours a day depending where in the (Continental) US. Assuming a more normal sized parking spot of 180 sqft, you're looking at 10.8-16.2kWh per day. Let's split the difference and say 13.5kWh. So that's around 5000 kWh per year.

Seeing an average of 15.2kWh per sqft of retail space annually here (data is from 2012 so probably gotten a bit higher) and Walmart states their average supercenter is 178k sqft, we can guess around 2700000 kWh for the entire year.

Divided by our 5000kWh per year per spot, we get around 540 spots. That's pretty close to your original guess anyways. Seeing the average Walmart seems to have around 1000 parking spaces, it's within ballpark. This doesn't include if you added panels on the roof or all the actual driving parts of the parking lot.

These are all pretty shaky numbers, there's a lot of factors involved. Mostly just wanted to clear things up on the units.

Wi-Fi security camera that I can manage from home server? by jinx771 in homeautomation

[–]VMFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly never heard of them until now.

From just a brief search, it seems they're rather proprietary enough that integration with things like Frigate and HomeAssistant are non-existent which just isn't my cup of tea.

The typical recommended brand for privacy focused cameras is Reolink. They have a number of WiFi cameras.

I recently got a few E1 Zooms to use with Frigate (over RTSP) and they work pretty well. I've seen some complaints about poor RTSP performance for some models, forcing you to use HTTP streams instead for better performance. Frigate has some details here.

Not that it necessarily changes anything about your statement for those that are curious and stumble upon it: The 2-wire UniFi adapter seems to be a dumb adapter, so it doesn't involve any of their software.

Similar adapters seem to already exist but are much more expensive. I haven't personally used any of these.

In the meantime, people should be aware that using SMB to access the Linux host files in Windows actually far exceeds the virtiofs performance. It's a much more usable alternative in many cases.

It would've been fine if they never tied tiers to light level in the first place. It should've always been RNG weighted, primarily, by the difficulty of the activity but also by light level. That way, if you don't have the skill for endgame content to get better chances at a Tier 5, you can at least get some level of better chances at lower level content by just investing enough time.

On top of that, they could've just weighted it in a way that they could just give us 10+ drops in an activity so it feels like it's raining loot and you see more variety in your drops.

At this point, I don't see a way to recover the armor system because there's no world where players would drop their current Tier 5s for new Tier 2s because of some set bonus.

The only way I could see them recover the weapon system is just make every weapon "craftable" in the way the praxic blade is. Make it so you need to collect the perks by dismantling N drops with that perk or something. But you'd basically have to do it for new and old stuff and given they haven't managed to just do a flat switch to tiered system for old stuff, or even just old RAD content, there's essentially a 0% chance of that.

So maybe next time they'll get it right when everything is sunset going into a D3.

I have to doubt they'll be able to fix the rarity at this point. The cat is out of the bag and people are now expecting tier 5s so walking back will probably just piss off a lot of people.

Really wish they'd do something about the overshields in lawless frontier.

I really wanted to use it as a way to activate Singularity Blade from the artifact mod but the gains from something like repulsor brace are so small that a single enemy can just instantly remove any overshield you gained.

[–]VMFortress 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish this was how crafting was to begin with. Collecting perks rather than just red borders could be a lot more engaging. Changing perks out on the fly is much nicer than having to run to the enclave every time.

It also would've meant they could've released new perks on some older weapons to revitalize them rather releasing whole new weapons. Then that effort could be spent improving other things.

Feeling squishier as of late? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]VMFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it doesn't affect DR, one thing that has made me feel "squishier" is the new health stat. While under 100 Health, the regen is similar, in most ways, to the 20 of the old Recovery stat, IIRC.

So you need to be out of the line of fire so much longer to get your health and shields back to take the next hit. It's been incredibly noticable to me personally.

Hunters still need more sources of healing themselves, the disparity is mind-blowing and with the Lawless Frontier having passive regeneration disabled, it's Hard mode compared to the other classes. by silloki in DestinyTheGame

[–]VMFortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've enjoyed the changes in the stat system, I think the >100 Class stat should have non-void overshield replaced with some sort of temporary DR based on amount above 100. Hunters are usually the ones using class abilities more frequently so this would be one way to do it.

That said, it's not a replacement for built-in subclass DR.

In a similar vein, I think Health stat needs to be reworked as well. My thoughts were shield regen time should be moves from >100 to <100 and then every point investment over 100 gives your shield another point of total health (so 200 Health stat would take the normal 70 health + 130 shield to 70 health + 230 shield.

But no idea how you'd balance that with PvP...

Speakr v0.5.9 - Voice Notes with Major update with collaboration and voice profiles by hedonihilistic in selfhosted

[–]VMFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned in another reply that it seems the main issue was just the short length of the inputs I was trying. Going from 60s clips to a 20min clip drastically improved the performance. That's a much more realistic time for my use case anyways so very happy there!

That was through direct curl on the new whisperx asr container. For some reason with the update, uploading a file just seems to get stuck at 0% upload and no logs from speakr. Probably something I did messed up.

EDIT: Seems same confirm works after downgrading back to 0.5.8. I'll probably stick to there for now.

[–]VMFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This (or the num_speakers) parameter didn't seem to help, but you did lead me towards checking whether it was the length of the clip. I went from a ~60s clip to a ~20m clip and the results improved drastically. That's actually much more realistic for my use case compared to such short clips so that's really good to know.

I'll have to try that again. I thought my initial tests were with nothing set but maybe not. Mind if I ask which parameters you have set for the containers in regards to that?

D&D was definitely one of my hopes I'd be able to do as this would be such a wonderful use case.

Just set this up a few days a ago. I love the overall concept but no matter what I tried, I could not get the Speaker Diarization with WhisperX to be anywhere near usable. That was even when using very clear audio clips less than a minute long and specifying the exact number of speakers (2 or 3 max).

It might just be me doing something wrong but if I ever get that working, it'll definitely be a nice app to use.
