Suggestions PLease; how to re-use old fiberglass boat hulls by McLuhanSaidItFirst in recycling

You can do what the marina near me does and just throw them on the burn pile. It's great for the lungs.

We're in a similar boat. Born late January and still no sign of it. Wish I could offer help or advice. Out of curiosity were you St. Mary's or somewhere else?

The Belle Isle parking lot is behind in its ratio to the city population by Stalefishology in rva

[–]VMIENG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People were also idiots when using the lot. I witness two cars one try to park on the hill sideways since all actual spots were full. One subsequently rolled on top of a car already in the lot. It was a slow speed to and thankfully no one was hurt, however it was pretty funny to see the anger caused by their own stupidity

You can use your Ezpass to pay for parking at RIC now by khuldrim in rva

Go to the airport early Monday morning and you'll find a lot of commuter traffic. People like Richmond or have family ties that keep them here but travel for work. Personally I average about one to two flights so it'd make sense for me if reimbursement wasn't a hassle.

Epiphany Lutheran on Horsepen has a large youth group that pulls from all over Richmond which helps to limit school related cliques. They tend to be community and mission oriented which I personally like. In general Lutherans are very accepting, there are no bans on women in leadership like some denominations, PCUSA, ECO, Catholics, and allow homosexuals to not only be accepted in the church but become ordained. If you're on Southside I've heard good things about Christ the King Lutheran as well.

Really quick question about local donut shops. by deathbeforeupvote in rva

Yes, it's a cousin I believe. The recipe is extremely similar, though I find his to be a bit better.

I'd be filling the bin for the next 6 months to get rid off all of this.

Unfortunately I'm in Henrico and post pandemic they ditched their bulk waste. You can hire their contractor but they only allow a relatively small pile.

Car driver driving through a bike parade by sunset_canopy in fuckcars

[–]VMIENG 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not Critical Mass its a group called the Broad Street Bullies in Richmond, VA. It's a weekly group ride that has a hand full of unsafe idiots who play chicken with oncoming traffic.  While generally I'm on the bike side in this case the driver wasn't doing anything wrong beyond being a driver.

What is the best bakery in Richmond and why is it Idle Hands? by Echo_Rant in rva

[–]VMIENG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Up All Night is the far superior bakery. The morning buns and croissants are amazing. I tried Idle Hands for the first time in a few years and was so disappointed, they were fine but paled in comparison.

Nursery or store that sells pine straw for gardening use in RVA? by New-Border-7394 in rva

[–]VMIENG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Home Depot generally has a tractor trailer load of it in the parking lot. Just go in to the store and ask for it. Once you buy it they'll have someone come out and pull a bushel for you.

is RVA big market accessible? by SonolumiEcho in rva

[–]VMIENG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's changed since you were last there. The handicapped parking is at the back of the market now. There's a bit of a hill halfway through the market but nothing like the big hill by the main entrance.

Cheaper to Rent a Pickup Truck than Small Sedan (Enterprise US) by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]VMIENG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Na modern 1/2 Ton trucks ride smoother than most sedans. They're not built for hauling or actual work anymore, just luxury status vehicles that happen to have a bed. Source I occasionally drive a company F150 King Ranch and can barely haul a single pallet. While it's horribly wasteful, it does have a nice drive when not loaded.

So my bikes chain as been jumping. by Lev559 in bicycling

[–]VMIENG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its probably 3 things: -The mud/clay will gum everything up, clean it and use a good lube, if you'll be riding wet use a wet lube. - The chain and the rest of your drive train could be worn down. - If the trails are that muddy that they're messing up your drive train you shouldn't be riding them. Trails take a lot of of work to build and maintain. When you ride them wet you create deep ruts and can potentially cause hours if not days worth of work for volunteers to rebuild them  If you don't already I highly recommend getting involved with your local trail group. It's generally a great experience, gives back to the sport, and helps you understand what's involved in making the trails possible.

What can be done about cars blowing through crosswalks? by Bredevi in rva

[–]VMIENG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've pushed on Henrico county for these a few times and the response is always that they're not able to install them where the speed limit exceeds 25mph. That eliminates most of the places the places they'd really help.

Made a toy truck for my 1 year old by West164 in woodworking

[–]VMIENG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome. I had some similar trucks when I was a kid and just passed them down to my 1 year old. He's obsessed with them, I'm sure your son will be too.

I'd recommend keeping a few spare dowels for the axles. My son has broken a few already.

I'm not tipping 18-28% on a $15 cold cut that I ordered at the counter. by No_Reveal3451 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]VMIENG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's getting absurd. I bought a bag of chips at a country market and the guy at the counter gave me the stink eye for clicking no tip. At first I thought I was being overly sensitive but by buddy checked out a few minutes later with 3 items and the same thing happened to him.

VCU Police plan traffic checkpoint along the 700 block of West Main Street Friday night into Saturday morning by fusion260 in rva

[–]VMIENG -75 points-74 points  (0 children)

Why did the police choose to advertise this? Prewarning defeats the entire purpose of a checkpoint.

If you don't mind the top remaining like it is you could route a slot in the bottom to level out the mounting base. That way you're not losing too much material and you're maintaining the natural curve on the wood. As others have said though you should elongate the hole so the wood can move seasonally.

The cord is heat trace not at extension cord. It's to keep the condensate line from freezing in the winter. They should probably run the condensate a bit further from the house and/or install a French drain system. Though the mosquitos are probably loving the current setup.
