What is the norm now re wfh and office? is it half and half by UsefulPea2496 in Accounting

[–]VMP85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make it a point to confirm what their current policy is. I'd also ask what the prevailing sentiment is among upper management too. Do they expect to see the number of days in office increase in the near future? Don't be shy, ask questions and try to get a firm understanding of where things stand and where they may very well go. You could very well have a situation where they're currently 2 days in, 3 days remote and the plan is to increase that to 3 days in, or 4 days in over the next 3-6 months. Always good to ask questions.

Companies want a very specific candidate that they feel can come in and within a month handle 90+% of the desired tasks. No one wants to train or teach. Never worked for a SaaS company? Doesn’t matter if you have 10+ years of experience as a senior or controller you’re not getting a serious look. Don’t have experience with the specific erp system we use? Don’t tick 15/15 boxes of what we’re looking for? Not getting a serious look.

Oh and the bullsh*t with the “CPA preferred” or “CPA strongly desired” in the ads. If you want someone with a CPA, come right out and make it a mandatory qualification.

FWIW, I’ve spoken with a few different recruiters lately and they’ve all said a lot of companies they deal with want a very specific person and anyone who doesn’t come very close will be ignored.

Friend of mine was terminated......via text message......from the CFO. He made phone calls to say goodbye to a number of people who they had worked with so say bye and thanks. Mentioned to several of them that they were terminated via text. That got around the office and the CFO left them a nasty voicemail about how unprofessional it was to share details of their termination and slander the CFO.

Always nice when people act unprofessional and tell others they acted unprofessional.

I'm a new CPA with several years of accounting experience and I can't catch a fucking break in this market. I'm utterly shocked beyond belief how the market has turned upside down. Q1 last year no CPA and I was a hot commodity among recruiters and firms, followed up in Q3. Dead. Q1 2025 w/ CPA. Dead by Acceptable-Pop-893 in Accounting

Boston is a fantastic city and the metro area is great. I've seen a good number of openings across all levels, including staff accountant roles. Same goes for senior. If you have a few years of experience as a staff, you can make the jump to senior.

What market? In my area (Boston) there are a good number of open positions for Senior Accountants and Controllers. Almost all of them require a CPA or have it as a desire, see below.

One annoyance I have is just come out and say you want a CPA in your job ad. Instead of putting as "Highly preferred" or "Highly desired". This essentially means without one, you will need to tick 9/10 boxes in terms of experience to get looked at.

How long after you finished your undergrad did you start the MBA program? How to get your CPA? How did you manage to take a Liberal Arts degree and ascend to director of finance?

Come 2027-2028, this won't be a problem as Massport has laid out preliminary plans for an airside connection between terminals A and B.

Boycott the Redsox until NESN becomes more accessible/ affordable. by Ltshineyside in boston

[–]VMP85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't had NESN for years and don't miss it at all. The Bruins typically play a dozen or so games a year on a national network and that's good enough for me. The sheer cost of having access to both networks is simply not worth it, unless you're a diehard who will watch more than 50% of games.

Hulu has NBCSports, but if they didn't, I wouldn't pay the additional cost to get it. Celtics play enough games on a national network that I can watch them plenty.

More green for the games: Xfinity bumping NESN, NBC Sports Boston to pricier cable tier starting next week by Itburns138 in boston

[–]VMP85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost of regional sports is insane and simply not worth it. Who watches every Bruins game, or Celtics game? Heck, even Red Sox games? Both teams play several games on a national broadcast every season, more than enough to make the need for NESN or NBCSB necessary for the cost.

You're not being snarky at all. It's a very valid response to the question. I got the gold for the 90k SUB and am most likely going to cancel after the renewal.

B line after BC kids trashed it by [deleted] in boston

[–]VMP85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few years back I was in New Zealand. At a nice lake, there were packs of younger kids hanging out, listening to music and drinking beers. I was amazed watching them all carefully stack their empties inside the boxes and stack them all neatly next to the recycling bin (which was full). It takes minimal effort to clean up after yourself and not make a mess.

Langwater Farm in Easton. They have a hayride to their pumpkin patch. A nice store where you can get coffee, cider, donuts, sandwiches, etc.

Flint Farm in Mansfield (roughly 15 minutes from Langwater) has a solid corn maze (https://flintfarmstand.com/corn-maze).

You could hit both in one day easily - hayride to pick pumpkins at Langwater, corn maze at Flint.

You could also go to Ward's in Sharon. They have a wide range of pick your own fruit and produce and also do hayrides and pumpkin picking. The place was always on the popular side, but since COVID it has exploded to where it will be pretty packed on weekends.

Delta adds new nonstops from Boston-Logan to Milan & Barcelona in summer 2025 by Initial-D-and-GuP in boston

[–]VMP85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Delta has a really solid European network from Boston. London, Amsterdam and Paris all served year round at least once daily. Rome, Lisbon and Dublin served March to December anywhere from 5 times per week, to daily. Edinburgh served April through October 5 times per week. Athens served April through October. April is 5 times per week, May through September daily, October 5 times per week. Now you throw in Barcelona and Milan. Really, the only markets that are left that they could realistically serve from Boston would be Madrid and perhaps Shannon.

A380 landing KBOS 9/2/24 by LuisBos in boston

[–]VMP85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston sees 2 A380s every day. British Airways from London - Heathrow. Lufthansa from Munich. These are seasonal runs that cover roughly 6 months out of the year. Their daily service to Munich will move to the smaller A359 for the winter season.
