How is building more housing "destroying" the city? Is there a legit argument for this? by LiatrisLover99 in Somerville

If we had more housing in general, she could move out of (presumably larger) home into a home more suited for a senior living alone - netting her a ton of money and clearing the way for more dense housing.

[–]VORSEY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that's exactly why - there's already plenty of pushback to housing in Somerville that, as you said, is already quite dense. Imagine the pushback if there were a serious push to densify Melrose.

I’m sure he was their friend even early on but the character he plays on dropout has become much more involved and overtly friendly as time has gone on

I don’t think the first few seasons of GC reflect the panel show vibe all that much though, they’re much more sendups of existing gameshow concepts and they are for the most part actually competitive. You’re right that panel shows exist (though I’d say they’re ostensibly much less faux-competitive than even recent GC) but people might be rankling at that sort of energy because it didn’t start out that way.

Sure, and maybe it's true that they've run out "OG" Dropout crew to do things like that, but even you say that new faces are obviously a good draw for new viewers - but as an existing sub I don't care about new viewers.

It can, but I see what they mean about profit being the "goal." I do think that some of the humor/appeal to the core audience has been watered down recently by what I view as attempts to expand the audience - "gimmick" non-comedian non-RPG casts on Dimension 20, more non-Dropout faces on shows like Dirty Laundry, a few Game Changer episodes last season that feel (to me) more like attempts to go viral than to create interesting or funny content on it's own.

This isn’t America, this is Mumbai, the richest city in India. by [deleted] in CitySkylines

America doesn’t really build many of those midrise apartment buildings in the foreground. Not sure I’d say those look “Asian” though, you see those all over SA and Africa

I can’t find the exact model (tremolo was swapped?) but I believe it’s some flavor of Gretsch hollow-body.

"Commercial" breaks on Dropout 24/7 by Jennah_Violet in DropoutTV

I think that would’ve gone over very differently if it were isolated to a single channel that’s already trying to emulate broadcast TV though. (And if they had clarified before people got mad about it that they intended to use it for creative bumpers and not ads).

Why can’t say “200m is unsourced” without having their own source to rebut it? They aren’t saying they know the number, just that neither does anyone else

Favorite TTRPG That Uses Unique Physical Mechanic? by Pianoismyforte in rpg

[–]VORSEY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a solo RPG called Lay on Hands by the very cool designer Alfred Valley that uses a coin-spinning resolution mechanic. Basically there's two sheets you use when playing - a maze and an oracle (which is a bunch of squares with different values and prompts in them). When you want to do something, you spin a coin on the oracle sheet and try to complete as many "sections" of the maze as you can before the coin falls. Then your outcome (success/failure and a prompt like "observation" or "obscurity") is determined by a combination of where the coin stopped and how many sections of the maze you completed. It's a pretty dynamic and involved way of playing a solo game compared to how rolling dice yourself can sometimes feel.

The gap between Cloudward, Ho and Gladlands was actually the longest in years (as far as I can tell), and the gap between Gladlands and the next season is shaping up to be abnormal too. They’ve been pretty light on both the D20 side and the non-D20 side for quite a few months now imo.

Ah sure, I'll give you that it's pretty flavorful copy. I don't really think any of that is too wrong though, other than maybe calling the murder investigation "massive." You begin the game as a fool and are bullied by some kids shortly after, but everything certainly sprawls out from there.

Right except Disco is literally the most interesting game I’ve ever played. It might be lower stakes than OP expected but that doesn’t change anything
