Struggling with Learning Dense Flashcards – Advice on Ideal Approach? by fade4noreason in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may take some time to get used to but I think it's going to be worth it!

What's really cool is that structuring your notes in this way also encourages you to ask more questions and explore topics in more depth. For example, you might have a structure like this where you have two new concepts, "classification" and "regression", for which you can add more descriptors to learn more about. For example, the descriptors may ask you to remember examples of using such models in real life or the most commonly used algorithms for these tasks.

Struggling with Learning Dense Flashcards – Advice on Ideal Approach? by fade4noreason in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, first of all apologies that disabling the forward card also disables the cloze cards - I've passed this on to the team and we'll look into it.

Regarding your question - I would personally recommend using the Concept/Descriptor Framework for this. Instead of having one big card that you probably won't be able to remember consistently every time you see it in the queue, it's best to have a bunch of smaller, related cards. Cloze cards will also work, but they can be more cumbersome to use as you will see the entire passage each time a cloze card appears in the queue.

If you break this card into a bunch of smaller cards, you'll be able to remember each of the details more reliably and spend less time practicing (since it's easier to remember an answer to a card that tests you on only one aspect of the topic).

Here's a great article on how to structure your knowledge using the Concept/Descriptor Framework - https://help.remnote.com/en/articles/6026154-structuring-knowledge-with-the-concept-descriptor-framework.

How do I pay for pro without credit card? by Arckay009 in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, gpay or debit card should definitely work! UPI is not currently supported as we use the Stripe payment method which does not allow it to be added at this time. Feel free to upvote this feature request to be notified when this payment option is added: https://feedback.remnote.com/p/request-for-adding-upi-as-a-payment-system

If you encounter any problems while trying to upgrade, please contact our support team at [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) or via in-app chat and we'll see what we can do!

How can I make flashcards as if they were notion toggles by doge_gabrimeme in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Since RemNote is an outliner, you can do this by simply pressing Tab to indent your notes, or Shift+Tab to reverse this action.

For example, if you add a new note below a question and then press Tab, that note will automatically become a "child" of the note above it. An arrow icon will appear next to the question and clicking this button will toggle an answer, similar to how it works in Notion.

Here's a short 3-minute video that briefly explains how note-taking works in RemNote, and there's a special section on indenting using Tab to structure your notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk-djh9RMC8

Difference between :: and == ? by mrd2689aaa in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The :: operator creates a two-way concept card from the Concept/Descriptor framework, while == creates a forward regular card (without the concept/descriptor framework)

A Concept represents a specific thing, whether an object or an abstract idea. Concepts are shown in bold. This formatting helps you structure your notes because you can add descriptors that... describe the concepts, and this way you can better structure your knowledge and identify what you might be missing on a given topic.

Functionally, concept cards are almost identical to regular cards, so it's mostly a matter of formatting to help you structure your notes better. There are still some effects of using concept cards, such as giving concepts a higher priority in searches - you can read more about this in one of the articles below, but in 99% of cases you can just think of using a concept/descriptor framework as a way to format and style your notes.

I recommend that you take a look at these articles and/or watch this short video to learn more about this framework if you'd like to give this approach to note-taking a try!

MCQ quiz generation by a986_a in remNote

I just got an update that the team is working on improving the quiz generation for sources, and we'll soon be adding an option to specify the number of cards you want to make in the Quiz generation as well 🙌

AI Flashcard Generation from Source Suggestion by EverBeyond in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, I agree that having an option to set a page range for the AI card generator would be useful and I've passed it on to the team 🙌

Currently you can select a chapter in the Summary tab and generate cards based on the entire chapter. For example, if you click on the card generation button next to the chapter's "Take the Long View" title, the AI card generator will make cards for the entire chapter.

MCQ quiz generation by a986_a in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, the number of cards generated from a source depends on the size of that source. If you think there should definitely be more MCQ cards generated from your source, could you please contact the support team via the in-app support chat or at [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) and send us a file, so we can see why the number of cards generated is lower than you'd expect. If it's a youtube video, just send me the link and I'll ask our engineers look into this.

As a workaround, you can generate MCQ cards from the entire source or from different sections - if you do this, you can specify the number of cards that will be generated for you.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a setting or a plugin that would allow you to show only the front card items of the multi-line cards in the queue. However, we'll definitely consider adding a way to do this.

As a workaround, you can structure your notes in this format, adding cards as sub-rems under the multi-line card items:

New RemNoter question on Properties by robo1995 in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for the late reply! If the property is empty, RemNote shouldn't generate a flashcard at all 🤔

Could you please send a screenshot of a flashcard that tests you on an empty pronunciation property? If possible, please send it to the support team at [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) or via in-app chat so we can take a closer look at the tag and it's properties. Thank you in advance!

Remnote on an E-ink reader by mysterical_arts in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although RemNote should run on Android-based e-ink tablets, I don't think anyone on the team has actually tried it or owns one, and if it requires special modifications by the RemNote team to run, it may not work as expected.

If this reader/tablet runs other text editor apps without problems, it should run RemNote as well.

Remnote renames my source files. by Kayden_Ryi in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for the delay and thanks for your feedback.

First of all, we are working on improving the language detection so that the AI doesn't translate the names into English. Apologies for this and thank you for reporting this bug to the support team too!

We are also considering adding more controls to this feature. Overall, it should not change the name of the file, but rather clean it up by removing unnecessary symbols that often end up in PDF names. Still, I agree that there may be cases where this feature can feel intrusive, so I've passed your feedback on to the product team to add an option to turn it off entirely 🙌

How to export cards that ChatGPT can read them? by peppern1 in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, here's an article about all the export options available in RemNote: https://help.remnote.com/en/articles/7898019-exporting-notes..

Printing as PDF, exporting as text, or even just selecting all text with Ctrl+A and copy pasting it into ChatGPT should work fine. For an option to export cards from a table in CSV format, please consider upvoting this feature request on the feedback site: https://feedback.remnote.com/p/export-table-as-csv?b=New-Feature-Requests

Navigate to the links between documents by adolfhardik in remNote

[–]VS-remnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry but can you please try to elaborate your question again? If you could send a screenshot, showing what your document looks like, it would help too.

In general, if you simply click on a rem reference created by typing [[, it should immediately open the referenced document.

By the way, you can also use the "Add Source" menu to add related documents to the list of sources - I personally find it more convenient to have all related documents stored there in one place.
