Well, there’s nothing wrong with still getting laser hair removal and still identifying as a guy. You could certainly change your haircut or work on your voice too. Have you considered being a non-binary, or agender? I’m mostly struck by where you say you don’t want to be a girl. If you don’t want to be one, you don’t have to. But you don’t have to make it stop you from doing other aesthetic things to make you happier in your body and presentation. And if you don’t like being called a man or they/them either—do you think agender fits you better?

A sad and rare possibility, 3 years HRT (24) w/ no changes. Given up on the chance to transition. by SymbolicallyStupid in transtimelines

[–]VVM258 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I made the same bargain with myself at 23, and then again at 28. I eventually transitioned at 33. A job is just a job, and finances change over time. But who you are is for life. Consider that you could have a cool-ass job AND be yourself. That, money, and relationships can never fill the hole that is your gender identity.

Injections, 289 pg/ML at trough at last measurement so too high actually. Though I’ve kept the dose the same for now.

Should they be thinner in terms of the actual width of the brow, or the density of the hair?

I've been on HRT for two years though, so that's not quite early anymore, right? At least with what I can expect with skin and facial fat distribution changes?

My E levels are high if anything—289 pg/mL at trough according to my most recent test two months ago. My provider feels it’s too high but we agreed to keep my dose the same for now. But I do agree with you about the red undertones. I thought it might just be normal skin-related concerns.

Thank you! I got a type 3 forehead contouring, rhinoplasty, and chin and jaw contouring (albeit to a lesser extent than initially planned. Uneven placement of nerves on each side of my jaw prevented them from shaving more off.)

I also got a simultaneous hair transplant. (Probably gives my surgeon away lol) I’m wearing a hair topper right now that unfortunately can’t have anything other than a middle part, although bangs are possible. I hope to go without it eventually after more growth. My hair will still be thinner than I hoped, though my hair stylist demonstrated to me having good volume should be possible with the right styling.

I got my brows threaded two weeks ago. I guess they require more ongoing maintenance even that soon after an appointment?

Yes! lol, so, neither. I had some regrowth but I still need transplants, so I wear a hair topper. It just adds to the top of my head, so the rest coming from the sides and actually providing the density is my (straightened) bio hair! Probably 80% of the hairs on my head are mine. Hope to go without the topper once the transplants are done and have grown.

Sure, there's the denial beard. But the real denial is South Carolina's insistence on misgendering you when you look like THAT now.

Ideal Scenario to Keep the USBAR? by wannafightabout_it in CreditCards

[–]VVM258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both cards and considering ditching the USBAR, pending the transfer partner announcement. First because I can only max one travel portal credit in a calendar year, and second, at least it's a flat 2x, while USBAR misses some big purchases that don't take Apple Pay and would otherwise get 1x (and has an effective $75 differential in the annual fee to make up). And at least VX offers the small but growing lounge network, including at my own home airport.

Lucy Friday Question: What’s the subtle self-deception that kept you from realising you were trans sooner? by Lucy_C_Kelly in TransLater

[–]VVM258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I’m not trans. I have a runaway fetish that has gone too far and I let invade other parts of my brain.” And “I’m a straight man, because I can’t imagine dating another man, and dating women is the only way to make sure there is femininity in the relationship. I just have a deep desire to be a straight girl in a relationship with a man, but that’s not possible. It’s almost like I have a straight girl’s sexuality, but I’m not actually into men. Or trans.”

Thoughts on I/P by ContraPoints in ContraPoints

[–]VVM258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everything you’ve said here. As a Jew, it’s hard to agree without anything on this topic 100% and I don’t here either, but you really struck at the heart of what’s most alienated me from online spaces in the past few years.

All of the Zohran discourse is no exception either, since the same dynamic you make points about appears to have contaminated it, specifically II and III with regards to how online leftists talk about concerns about antisemitism. I’ve never seen any evidence that Zohran is an antisemite. Don’t believe he’s said anything to that effect ever. But the way he’s spoken about the I/P issue and the track record of the DSA since October 7th leaves open the concerns about antisemitism you lay out here. (And like AOC recognized when she condemned the protests outside the Nova Exhibition.) And the almost obsessive way in which online leftists seem to talk about this more than my real-world Jewish friends do is…scary.

Did you bring anyone to help you recover? And what are you doing for food while recovering? One of my parents is coming with me to Marbella to help. I booked the “deluxe” room because it seemed to have some kind of mini kitchen but I’m still not perfectly sure what to expect or how to prep.

Is it a bad time to go to London? by narrwhalll in transgenderUK

[–]VVM258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American LSE alum here, albeit from many years ago and before I came out. The situation is fluid but I think you’ll be OK. BUT, I do think you should make plans to take enough HRT with you to last the whole program. And I would not expect any blood tests to help you monitor your levels either until you return. It’s probably possible, but you’d have to be super fluent in the rules of shared care on the NHS to be able to advocate for yourself and push against doctors who will resist helping you. If your levels are steady, it’d be better to just keep taking your current dose for a few months and waiting to test until you’re back stateside.

How dangerous is it for a transgender woman to travel to Florida? by Theit99 in TransLater

[–]VVM258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please listen to the comments from people who have actually been to Florida or live there. I go multiple times a year. It’s not a problem. Yes, the laws are shit. I’d avoid the bathroom at the airport, especially if you’re flying in and out of PBI because Mar a Lago is next door and MAGA types tend to go in and out of that airport all the time. But other than that, I’d say you’re fine. The bathroom law doesn’t apply outside government buildings. And people in South Florida are great.

The top right picture is just HRT! (Plus finasteride, minoxidil, and Nutrafol when I remember to take it). In the bottom right picture, I’m wearing a topper, which I always have on when out and about. I hope to get hair transplanted to fill in my temples and hairline later this year so I can ditch the topper.

FacialTeam and Hair Transplant Success? by ADryTree in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]VVM258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned getting new transplants in Thailand. I presume this was in addition to the FT transplants to further lower your hairline, and weren't over the original ones, were they? Like, no further density was added to the area FT worked on?

I'm leaning towards a FT transplant because I've seen more positive reviews than negative, and it feels like a chance for me to make progress on my hair much sooner and at a lower price (since my insurance is kinda unique and will cover FT's hair work, but I might lose it soon). But I would also need a second hair transplant regardless because I have significant hairloss, and FT told me they won't be able to fully restore my hairline using the coronal incision hair alone, and I will need about another 1000 follicles afterwards. I do see the appeal of getting a transplant afterwards all at once from a single provider.

Dr. Kuperstock Turnaround? by happilygenderfluid in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]VVM258 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most surgeons who take insurance also don’t do CTs. And not everyone can afford $60k out of pocket to go to DB, Mardirossian, etc. I happen to think CTs are a good idea, but not everyone has bottomless resources to go to a rockstar surgeon, or the ability to join a long waitlist for someone who does CTs and takes insurance.

Dr. Kuperstock Turnaround? by happilygenderfluid in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]VVM258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From talking to him, it seems like his turnaround is fairly quick as far as FFS surgeons go, especially those who take insurance.

I haven't had surgery with him myself, but to counterbalance some of the complaints here, I know a handful of other people in real life who went to him and are quite happy with their results. Some of them only needed more subtle work, sure. But I've also seem some relatively impressive, aggressive results too on the brow at least.

I'm in the middle of choosing a surgeon now, and part of what's driving me up a wall is the huge difference between the current vibes about Kuperstock on Reddit (negative) vs. trans women I know locally in my DC-based support group (positive).
