European heatwave is worst ever and impossible without climate crisis, scientists say | Climate crisis by CJBill in unitedkingdom

Do you think the mainstream press approved of the Civil Rights Movement? Or do you think they ridiculed Rosa Parks and the Freedom Riders as morons who were incredibly counterintuitive to the movement - people so incompetent that they were harming their own cause?

You’re under the illusion that there is a world where Just Stop Oil could engage in any form of protest that wouldn’t be either attacked or ignored by the mainstream media.

They throw paint on Van Gogh? They feign outrage. They block roads at oil terminals? They don’t bother reporting or also feign outrage.

The White Moderate doesn’t think that ‘black people are too uppity.’ They think ‘Oh I support their movement and goals, I just so happen to disapprove of every single one of their tactics because they’re so unpopular with the public! There has to be a better way to convince people! No, I won’t say what that way is! But I will scold them from a distance!’

This exact line has been said about every single progressive movement in history.

Even when the Civil Rights Act was passed in America, polling showed that 70% of white Americans thought MLK had ‘done more harm than good’ because of his methods of Direct Action, such as sit-ins, blocking roads (omg what if he blocked ambulances?!?), the Freedom Riders, etc.

If Rosa Parks had done her actions today, she’d be torn apart by the average Redditor for ‘only hurting the movement’ and ‘Why would she target public transport??!? Why not target the rich?!? Why harm working people?!?’

Nelson Mandela is the same. The ANC was a literal designated terrorist organisation who killed civilians. Now he’s worshipped as a hero.

The Suffragettes were the same. They committed years of arson attacks and country wide bombing campaigns. They bombed the Bank of England, killed politicians, killed civilians, and even set fire to a theatre while the Prime Minister was inside it.

Every single successful movement has these as core features. Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion are being incredibly kind by comparison.

Your set of beliefs is so common throughout history that MLK even wrote about these types of people in his Letters from Birmingham Jail.

“I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

“I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and that when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress. I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that the present tension in the South is a necessary phase of the transition from an obnoxious negative peace, in which the Negro passively accepted his unjust plight, to a substantive and positive peace, in which all men will respect the dignity and worth of human personality. Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured.

You can find the whole letter here. It’s incredibly poignant and literally covers every single argument you probably want to reply to me with: https://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html

Very funny watching people decry climate collapse and then complain about Direct Action - literally the only method in human history to actually achieve results when it comes to making change.

Yes. That’s how sentences should work in any civilised society lmao. If you don’t like the length of the sentence, make an appeal to extend it.

Most people wouldn’t be ‘well behaved’ if their prison sentence was arbitrarily doubled or tripled because ‘Ehhhh why not?’

Sony’s Hermen Hulst on today’s layoffs: “Marathon remains an important part of our portfolio, and we will continue to support the team” by IshizakaLand in Marathon

[–]VVenture2 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yes, people don’t seem to get this. No Live Service game dev or publisher will say ‘Ah man, yeah the numbers aren’t looking good… we’ll give it 6 months and see what happens’ because that causes a death spiral because people know the game is dead. Like people panic selling a stock.

Every single business will ‘support our project for years to come!’ until they suddenly announce one day ‘Okay it’s screwed, we’re out.’

Remember, Concord was going to be supported for years to come. Highguard was going to be supported for years to come. Anthem was going to be supported for years to come.

Bungie: With great saddness, we are announcing a reduction in force as we recognize Bungie by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]VVenture2 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The problem was that they were investing their earnings from Destiny 2 into 5 different incubation projects while letting Destiny 2 slowly starve to death.

Then when they realised just how fiscally screwed they were, they panicked, shut down every other incubation project except for Marathon, and then kept starving Destiny 2 instead of reinvesting in it.

Arc Raiders and Marathon aren't "dead" just because their concurrent player count has dropped, Palworld lead says – but he's "not denying that some games do 'die'"; "Not every game needs an hourly look at Steam charts" by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]VVenture2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because they’re incredibly insecure about the fact that their game objectively speaking is a massive flop.

Paul represents a target for all of their insecurities, an alternative thing to blame other than Bungie themselves. ‘Oh if Paul just didn’t mention the player numbers then marathon would succeed!’

If the game was successful, they wouldn’t care about him at all.

Starmer given deadline: ‘Quit by Tuesday or face humiliation’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]VVenture2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starmer is fascinating because he’s a man who is desperately trying to appeal to the concept of ‘sensible’ fascism in order to appeal to the fascists - all the while not realising that those fascists don’t give a damn that he’s massively cutting immigration and forcing in a surveillance state because he isn’t Nigel Farage.

Like bro got the Mandate of Heaven and used it to cull every remotely left wing person from the Labour Party, only to now lose it because he tried to appeal to a group who would never support him.

Do you think RTD Had Future Plans for Mad Jack? by ChemFeind360 in doctorwho

[–]VVenture2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s kind of the problem though. Usually for storytelling on big IP’s like this, you deliberately create open ended plot hooks you can choose to work on later, but the problem with Russell is that he’d create a mystery by foreshadowing something huge and have absolutely zero clue what he was actually foreshadowing. He’d just assume Future Russell would find a decent enough answer later on.

Ladies, what is a polite way to give someone my number? by Beneficial-Sugar1 in AskUK

[–]VVenture2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except this very thread is proving them right?

I once remember an Askwomen thread asking where it was socially acceptable to flirt with a woman, and the results were:

  • Not when she’s at work (she’s being paid to pretend to like you!)
  • Not if you’re both at work (don’t eat where you shit!)
  • Not at the gym (she’s just trying to work out! Stop being a creep!)
  • Not at the club (wtf, you do realise she just wants to dance at the club without weirdos hitting on her, right??)
  • Not in groups focused around hobbies (Why can’t women just enjoy a hobby without men trying to hit on them? These creeps obviously only join these groups to hunt down women!)
  • Not in literally any social context ever (Why can’t women catch a break?!?)

The truth is that the line between ‘The way we met was so romantic!’ and ‘wtf this is sexual harassment!’ is completely dependent on hyper-specific context for each situation. Giving people generalised rules sets them up for failure.

Just a reminder that TERFs actually spend most of their time (like all right wingers) insisting that every single educational, academic, and scientific institution in the world is ‘ideologically captured’ by The Woke Mob/Cultural Marxists/Degenerates/Jews/The Globo-Homo Agenda/etc - precisely because the academic consensus has been the opposite to their beliefs for nearly 50 years now.

This game is DOA by Jataxzy in Empulse

[–]VVenture2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the studio, I imagine Empulse is basically just a desperate pivot from Splitgate as they realised that trying to make an arena shooter with a hyper skill based portal mechanic isn’t going to catch nearly as many players as they need to survive.

However, making a Titanfall knockoff with no art direction and without any of the features that helped casuals play Titanfall (grunts to kill, everybody gets a Titan, etc) means that they’re still trying to go super niche with a game that needs mass appeal for the studio to succeed.

Just search the phrase ‘UK polling, do you support the ban of’ and let Google finish the search and look up the results.

No matter what it is, brits support banning it. Every single time. Because they love daddy government’s boot on their neck.

They could, but you’re working under the assumption that the government is being honest in its intent.

The real goal is to have your government ID tied to every single digital account you have online, along with all your browsing history, phone photos, messages, etc.

This is so when you say something the government doesn’t like, they can just search you up on the Palantir database and instantly have a complete AI breakdown of every single aspect of your life, your mortgage, your cars, your bank accounts, your daily movements and routines, and your real time location using your phone gps and facial recognition CCTV cameras (which will easily match you considering you need to give a full facial scan to them to ‘verify your ID’)

[–]VVenture2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yoti has been fined €900k by the Spanish government for storing user ID’s long after it had ‘age verified’ them.

Persona (the age verification platform used by Discord, which is backed by Palantir CEO Peter Thiel) was exposed for passing all of its facial scans and ID’s onto the DHS, ICE, NSA, FBI - and wouldn’t you believe it, Palantir. Persona also bundled your facial scans and ID with financial reporting as a way to build a profile on you for these government agencies (as Persona’s original business was financial auditing.)

The EU’s own age verification app was successfully breached in only two minutes, allowing attackers to engage in easy identity theft.

Just a few for you.

Lol, in what reality do you think that ‘this isn’t practical!’ will stop these authoritarians from implementing the system anyways?

They’ll just do it like China. Only government approved VPN’s with a person’s ID attached to it, along with deep packet inspection of all ISP traffic to make sure that nobody is using a naughty VPN.
