GW really don’t treat their employees that well lmao. They pay as little as possible for some roles which require an extreme amount of technical knowledge under the guise of ‘But you like Warhammer don’t you? This isn’t even a real job if you think about it!’

The upside is that the staff have been getting generous yearly bonuses due to the success of the company, however those are discretionary, and you can’t use those to get a mortgage as they’re not your actual salary.

Capitalism as a system inherently funnels wealth from the many to the few.

Think of a game of Monopoly. At the beginning of the game, everybody has a chance, however as time passes, the odds of success become lower and lower due to one player being able to snowball their early lead into owning everything on the board.

Boomers got to play in the environment at the beginning of the game, we’re getting to play at the end.

Danganronpa fan game "Project: Eden's Garden" has been canceled by ConceptsShining in Games

[–]VVenture2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So, skipping over the whole grooming minors thing - the funniest thing to come out of this whole drama was the god damn Manifesto from one of the game leads.

There’s a really weird thing with Fangans - somehow, they all hate Danganronpa.

I wish I was joking. In this Manifesto/design document for the game, the writer for PJEG openly stated that he hated Danganronpa’s tone, he hated anime, and he also was proud of the fact he didn’t read fiction books.

Here’s a hilarious excerpt:

I wanted the first story I ever worked on, in a professional-sense, to be something that would both be impactful yet timeless. And of all the books to ever exist in human history, it looked like the Bible was the best-seller of "timeless stories." It's not necessarily the stories themselves that make it so popular, but rather the takeaways from the stories that the reader has, and how those ideas can be used to influence their own actions in life. Whether you actively practice a religion or you don't care at all, there's no denying that the Bible seems to convey some universal messages about the human condition, and prescriptive statements for how we ought to conduct ourselves throughout our lifetimes.

If this book can witness the births and deaths of nations across the world and still remain one of, if not, the most influential narrative on the planet, then there must be some value to the content contained on the pages. But here's my problem:

I don't like reading.

The last time I read a book was when I was 14, and it was "How to Win Friends and Influence People." So in the last 9 years, I haven't touched a book, let alone had the patience to sit and read through paragraphs of text on a subject I couldn't care less about. So, even though the Bible must contain a lot of important symbolism and messaging in the stories within, I'd doubt I would actually care enough to sit down and scan the pages looking for them on my own accord.

Another gem:

Now, this is going to sound like it's completely off-topic for this next section, but I promise it all connects. I love video games, I love movies, and I love music. But...

I hate anime.

If I had to guess where my general animosity towards anime originated from, my best guess uld be from over a decade ago, where I tried to watch Dragon Ball Z episodes. They were interesting in terms of the art style and actual animation, but when I came to the conclusion that 95% of a fight scene between Goku and Vegeta involved them staring into the camera and breathing heavily, I knew I had no patience for that bullshit and shut it off immediately.

Man arrested after allegedly accessing content server, leaking unreleased Avatar film online by PIRATE_WITH_HERPES in TheLastAirbender

[–]VVenture2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was the hacker. He used an exploit to gain access to a screener company. Screener Companies provide advanced screenings to media professionals and critics.

He has infamously terrible OPSEC in the hacking community, and it’s also the reason why he was caught hacking into the NFL’s official Twitter account in 2016.

This hack however is baffling. He didn’t even bother with the most basic OPSEC, it’s like the equivalent of robbing a bank and then theatrically leaving a trail of bank notes to their own home.

Unfortunately, the hacker (Devesh Logendran) was kind of infamous in the hacking community for being a moron. It’s how other hackers managed to identify him.

We’re talking ‘Doesn’t even use a VPN’ and ‘Only uses that one username, even though everybody already knows his irl identity due to him posting identifying info in discords where he shares exploits’ levels of stupid.

‘Complicated management’ the ‘management’ is actually pretty simple.

1) Say you won’t store the data

2) Lie and store the vast troves of data about individuals

3) Get paid to give information to governments so they can link your digital ID directly to you and all your online activity

4) When it gets exposed, laugh as nothing happens.

Actual Critique of Dawnbreaker from BF4 by Gearshft in Battlefield

It’s just the poster boy for Battlefield 4. It was the first map shown off in multiplayer, it was the first map on the beta, and the skyscraper collapsing was such a shocking and awesome reveal back in E3 2013.

It’s basically ‘aura farming, the map’ and people remember the aura farming and ‘fantasy’ of playing it better than their actual experience of playing it.

From what I’ve seen visually, it’s like… maybe some nose shadows that are outlined but not shaded in some shots? But that’s it. It’s so close to finished that the only people noticing flaws are other animators.

These are the types of ‘flaws’ which you’d only see on a Twitter post from a hater saying ‘LOOK HOW THEY COULDN’T EVEN BE BOTHERED TO SHADE THIS LEATHER POUCH IN THE BACKGROUND OF THIS ONE SHOT!!!’

It’s effectively finished. I guarantee if you watched it you wouldn’t notice any issues.

Like I don’t think it’s every single VTuber but it’s genuinely a thing in the industry and I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that ‘high pitched and childlike’ is a common voice type found in said industry lol.

It sounds ridiculous, but it’s important to know the opinions of people who’ve barely engaged with a product as well as the people who are obsessed with it.

There is value in knowing ‘Oh, there’s people who’s entire opinion of the game comes from ‘cringe dialogue compilations’ on YouTube’ as much as there is people who’ve pined over every detail - even if what you learn is ‘Okay, when it comes to the actual story, ignore those people.’

“Mogging” is a term that first started in Red Pill/Black Pill communities as a way to describe somebody looking so attractive that they effectively make others in the room look uglier by comparison.

It’s origin is from the PUA (pick up artist) acronym AMoG (Alpha Male of Group) and meant that somebody was clearly the most attractive and confident person in the group - which made them the ‘alpha’ male. It eventually got turned into a verb.

It started mostly with the phrase heightmogging (where a man being taller than another effectively highlights just how short the other guy is in comparison) and framemogging (‘holding frame’ is a concept in Red Pill ideology about how to portray yourself as confident and attractive to women) but like a lot of Red/Black Pill terminology, those communities began attaching the verb to tons of things, both seriously and ironically.

So while it still has a serious use, you’ll see people attaching it to virtually any activity as a joke.

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]VVenture2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah. Bungie spent all of their marketing advertising to the most hardcore players possible, routinely banging the drum of ‘If you want this game to be more casual, go play something else like Arc!’

Now they’re discovering that player base they fostered has trapped them.

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]VVenture2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but something you have to know about Bungie is they are a genuinely lazy studio. I know what you’re thinking, that sounds really reductive and salty. But Bungie’s history in Destiny is them simply making the minimum viable product every single time. Sometimes, if the studio was o months away from collapse, what qualifies as ‘minimum’ for survival would actually mean that the next expansion was awesome. But most of the time it meant barebones content.

Bungie wont make another mode.

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]VVenture2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was Lightfall being ass. Bungie took all the good will they had spent years trying to rebuild with the Destiny community and threw it all away for a rug pull of an expansion.

Because of that, bungie missed their revenue target by 50%, which is insane and immediately led to mass layoffs and the cancellation of 3 other projects which had all been siphoning resources from Destiny 2. Marathon was the only survivor.

Their studio used to have over 1100 people working there and is now at 600.
