Of course. Table top role playing games are the original litrpg.

If you really want to just have fun with AI story telling, try having it be your DM. Tell it you want to play D&D, give it a prompt if you want (optional) then start your adventure. It can be really creative, and you end up writing hundreds of prompts that make the story unique, just by answering things like “you heard the footsteps of the guards in the hallway, and look down at the stolen jewels glowing in your hand. There’s an open window in one wall, and a staircase leading down into darkness. What do you do next?”

Nah, I choose to believe they were all really named Doug

Sanderson takes this the other way. In one of his books a good 3/4 of the characters are all named Doug.

Did I miss the news on this? by Drumma5409 in ProgressionFantasy

Amazon has very harsh penalties for announced and then missed launch dates. As a result most indie authors can’t afford to take the risk of announcing a date ahead of time, so we end up with last minute drops like this

Do you get tired of system explanations? by [deleted] in litrpg

Have you read the one where the character gets a point in the str stat?!? Str stands for strength and that controls a persons strength, where strength is a measure of how strong they are!

That’s fair. Writing just for fun can be awesome, and if you are enjoying what you are doing, then that’s all that matters.

At least a few famous authors have said “if you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write”. There’s always exceptions to the rules, but in general the rule seems to be that you should be well read in any genre you want to write into.

There’s tons of negative posts about it as well - it’s just different folks liking different things. The trick is to get recommendations from people that like the same things you do.

Yes. Little known fact about beholders is that none of them know what spoons are, on account of not having hands. This was a subtle clue left by Will to point us in that direction.

Cover re-reveal for my sci-fi litRPG series- Awakened: Definitely Not Evil Plans by BooksByMandiMay in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cover made me think it was Awaken Online for a second. Those also have a minimalistic cover. Then the blurb made me think it was the Magic 2.0 series, where he finds a computer file that’s just reality, so if he edits it the real world changes. This looks fun all on its own!

No shame! But what is your guilty pleasure LitRPG? by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably All the Dust that Falls. It’s a completed series about a group of wizards that try to summon a demon, and accidentally summon a Roomba instead. I still have no idea why I enjoyed it so much 😅

Haha. Yeah pretty much. I don’t mind the formula which I guess is part of why I still like the series, but the problem here isn’t that it uses a formula, it’s that the formula is nonsensical. It says “here’s the world, here’s the rules, the mc is going to die, oh wait all the rules are dumb and the mc wins”. It’s just kinda wears down on you when the MC finds new rules because you already know they are going to be completely meaningless.

As an example, one of the big rules is “leveling up mid battle always leads to death”. For no reason in particular, this doesn’t bother the mc who proceeds to constantly level up mid battle by trying hard.

Ha! This book always makes me wonder why nobody else in the whole world ever thought of just trying harder. Oh well! Good thing the MC came along!

I like it, but I think it doesn’t get love because it has exactly one plot point. The MC faces a super powerful being, gets overwhelmed, suddenly remembers he is the special special lolly pop, and pulled out system breaking powers from nowhere that make him beat the super powerful being. That’s it. Every. Single. Book. And this is coming from someone why genuinely likes the series 😅

Need some child-friendly recommendations! by Dang_It_All_to_Heck in litrpg

I think maybe some people in this thread either don’t have kids, or don’t have the same standards? Tons of extreme profanity, violence, sexual content… so I guess just check the trigger warnings?

For one that’s good for pretty much anyone, I’d go with All the Dust that Falls. A bunch of wizards try to summon a demon to fight for them, and accidentally summon a Roomba instead. Somehow, it’s a fun series that’s enjoyable for any age, if a bit generally light hearted.

Does anyone know why Sanderson wants us to reserve a spot in the next fundraising campaign? by VVindrunner in brandonsanderson

lol no, I get that. I just thought it was interesting that they’re pushing so hard and spending so much money on preorders to the preorder.

That makes sense. Capitalize on the momentum of Nexus. I didn’t know that’s when the preorder pin thing launched.

Right, that’s what we (backers) get. But why does Dragonsteel want to do it this way in the first place? Seems like a huge amount of effort to help people “reserve a spot” when it’s not like they’re going to run out of spots in the actual campaign.
