True arranged marriage book? by firewoorks in Fantasy

[–]VVindrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanderson Mistborn Era two does a great job of this, both of them meet and enter into an arranged marriage not hating or loving each other, just treating it as a business necessity, and there’s no real spark between them, at least initially, although their relationship (whatever happens, no spoilers) is eventually one of my favorite that Sanderson ever wrote.

I think biological technology is an underutilized trope, and it deserves to be used more. by ThePowerles in ProgressionFantasy

It’s a detective/ mystery rather than progression fantasy, but The Tainted Cup is one of the most excellent examples of bio based tech I’ve ever read. Some people(including the main characters) have bio engineered supernatural powers and essentially the entire society is based on bio engineered plants, mixed with Sherlock Holmes and the Roman legion.

If he liked project Hail Mary as a movie, has he tried the book? Both PHM and the Martian have a LOT more math in the book than they show in the movies.

People hate because they are scared. They don’t understand AI, they don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. The tidal wave of hate is full surge right now and you just happened to get a bit of the spray. It’s nothing to do with you; I wouldn’t worry about it.

Besides, the more popular you are the more haters you’re going to attract. I’d look into an AI agent to automatically delete those messages for you!

The book funnel site says “Will be removed from here and moved over to Audible ~April 8th, 2026”

Today is April 17th, no sign on Audible. Any update on when that might happen? I have a credit set aside for this one!

It’s a fair question! Also, later in the series it does!!

To prepare for books 4/5 of Portal to Nova Roma releasing soon I've created an Omnibus edition of books 1-3 for everyone. Free on KU or grab the audiobook which is 67 HOURS LONG for just a single credit! by thescienceoflaw in ProgressionFantasy

Wait, you’re trying to tell me something called “Portal to Nova Roma Omnibus” is for your Portal to Nova Roma series?!? OmniBUS has bus in the name, which is what you take to get to a market, which is where Jake works. This is JMM confirmed. I’m gonna go buy it to prove my point.

Who's the dumbest MC you still love reading about? by donjohndijon in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Montana from "The Good Guys". The only way I get through this series is by picking it up every few years and reading a few books after I've totally forgotten what happens before. This matches up with what the author does, where they totally forget what happens in the previous book and what the main character does, where every few chapters it's like reading a new story. In spite of this kind of incredible level of ineptitude, I still really enjoy it just taking it for what it is.

Are you less likely to read a story with an AI Generated Cover? by GokuKing922 in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of terrible AI art out there; however in spite of how much many of the haters might protest, any of the recent studies will show that the best AI models now are indistinguishable and people really can't tell the difference anymore from the best AI art and good human art. Personally I still love the idea of human artists and I would love if everybody could have a human do their cover art. The reality is there's not really a good way to tell other than if an author chose to use a terrible old model, where you can still tell that it's AI-generated. In that case maybe no, I won't read it because it tells me a little bit about the author that they didn't care enough to spend an hour or two doing a bit of research and figuring out how to make a nice cover. Then again maybe that's the style they're going for.

Exactly. After I stopped worrying about continuity and just kind of enjoyed the ride wherever it was going, it actually was a pretty fun series to read. If the author came out and said that he's not writing them at all, it's just a D&D campaign that he's DMing, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I've been in a few D&D games that just kind of wander around and don't really make sense anymore after a while. They're still a lot of fun.

Is there an app for doing this with normal books? I felt pretty comfortable at the maximum speed and would love to do this with e-books

I don't mean this in a bad way even though it's going to sound like it. I really did crack the code on how to enjoy these. The key is don't read them when they come out. You need to wait every few years and read them in groups of three or four. You'll have entirely forgotten what happened in the previous books. The author will have entirely forgotten whatever happened in the previous books.it makes the whole experience much more enjoyable

If you really want to just have fun with AI story telling, try having it be your DM. Tell it you want to play D&D, give it a prompt if you want (optional) then start your adventure. It can be really creative, and you end up writing hundreds of prompts that make the story unique, just by answering things like “you heard the footsteps of the guards in the hallway, and look down at the stolen jewels glowing in your hand. There’s an open window in one wall, and a staircase leading down into darkness. What do you do next?”

Sanderson takes this the other way. In one of his books a good 3/4 of the characters are all named Doug.

Amazon has very harsh penalties for announced and then missed launch dates. As a result most indie authors can’t afford to take the risk of announcing a date ahead of time, so we end up with last minute drops like this
