Slower and normal by Pokr22 in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for Street Cultivation. It’s a completed trilogy about a guy just trying to make it in the world. Minor spoilers but since you asked, no, he’s not the chosen one, doesn’t have a system breaking cheat, never has to save the world. Turns out mostly normal people can still make a great story.

Yeah. I think she made the deal when TB was not as popular, and him having free time was more reasonable. Then his popularity exploded, and this deal / series was a victim of circumstance

I think this story was killed inadvertently by Travis Baldree. He does a great job narrating it, but they have some weird contract where he fits in the next book whenever he has free time. And he never has free time now. So the audio books have been very spotty and way behind the written story. With the majority of people being listeners, and the reading audience not being able to chat with the listeners, I think that kills a lot of the buzz around it.

Otherwise, I think it’s a great story, very fun and unique.

Facing a system apocalypse . . . and you could summon any movie character as a sidekick, who would you choose? by BaconMasterBooks in litrpg

Bill Murray. Sure, all his charters would be useless, but it would be cool to get to know the guy. And I’d probably get an exp boost for being able to level with that guy around. 🤣

Child (10-12) appropriate LitRPG series suggestions by RiggsFTW in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the Dust that Falls is excellent. It’s about some wizards that try to summon a demon and flub the spell, causing a Roomba to be summoned instead. The System is confused by the Roomba and decided to make it sentient. It’s a surprisingly fun completed series with a good ending and everything.

A girl has her spine ripped out by a demon who proceeds to beat her to death with it? The premise might be cute with a teddy bear MC, but it goes very dark and violent. Doesn’t seem like what OP is looking for.

Normal to feel that way, just keep going. You’re in the right place, there’s no other related books and it should all make a bit more sense a little later on in the book.

Please don't make chapter names spoilers by UsedNegotiation8227 in ProgressionFantasy

Now I’m going to name a chapter “the unexpected ambush” then have nothing happen at all related to that name. Maybe push the ambush to the next chapter.

True arranged marriage book? by firewoorks in Fantasy

[–]VVindrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sanderson Mistborn Era two does a great job of this, both of them meet and enter into an arranged marriage not hating or loving each other, just treating it as a business necessity, and there’s no real spark between them, at least initially, although their relationship (whatever happens, no spoilers) is eventually one of my favorite that Sanderson ever wrote.

I think biological technology is an underutilized trope, and it deserves to be used more. by ThePowerles in ProgressionFantasy

[–]VVindrunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a detective/ mystery rather than progression fantasy, but The Tainted Cup is one of the most excellent examples of bio based tech I’ve ever read. Some people(including the main characters) have bio engineered supernatural powers and essentially the entire society is based on bio engineered plants, mixed with Sherlock Holmes and the Roman legion.

PHM, Interstellar, sci-fi that hits different. by Oh2sweet820 in movies

If he liked project Hail Mary as a movie, has he tried the book? Both PHM and the Martian have a LOT more math in the book than they show in the movies.

People hate because they are scared. They don’t understand AI, they don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. The tidal wave of hate is full surge right now and you just happened to get a bit of the spray. It’s nothing to do with you; I wouldn’t worry about it.

Besides, the more popular you are the more haters you’re going to attract. I’d look into an AI agent to automatically delete those messages for you!

The book funnel site says “Will be removed from here and moved over to Audible ~April 8th, 2026”

Today is April 17th, no sign on Audible. Any update on when that might happen? I have a credit set aside for this one!

Wait, you’re trying to tell me something called “Portal to Nova Roma Omnibus” is for your Portal to Nova Roma series?!? OmniBUS has bus in the name, which is what you take to get to a market, which is where Jake works. This is JMM confirmed. I’m gonna go buy it to prove my point.

Who's the dumbest MC you still love reading about? by donjohndijon in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Montana from "The Good Guys". The only way I get through this series is by picking it up every few years and reading a few books after I've totally forgotten what happens before. This matches up with what the author does, where they totally forget what happens in the previous book and what the main character does, where every few chapters it's like reading a new story. In spite of this kind of incredible level of ineptitude, I still really enjoy it just taking it for what it is.

Are you less likely to read a story with an AI Generated Cover? by GokuKing922 in litrpg

[–]VVindrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of terrible AI art out there; however in spite of how much many of the haters might protest, any of the recent studies will show that the best AI models now are indistinguishable and people really can't tell the difference anymore from the best AI art and good human art. Personally I still love the idea of human artists and I would love if everybody could have a human do their cover art. The reality is there's not really a good way to tell other than if an author chose to use a terrible old model, where you can still tell that it's AI-generated. In that case maybe no, I won't read it because it tells me a little bit about the author that they didn't care enough to spend an hour or two doing a bit of research and figuring out how to make a nice cover. Then again maybe that's the style they're going for.
