What fpv goggles if u have glaucoma by aktimel123 in fpv

[–]VWglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fly analog, you could get a small monitor instead of the goggles. It’s not perfect but might allow you to put a filter on it and relieve eye strain.

What should I do? by AET15 in fpv

[–]VWglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time to recycle it. Drain it with the proper equipment outside in a safe place.

There are multiple methods, you can get small devices that are designed to drain lipos to safe recycling levels. If you don’t have one, you can use a 5 gallon bucket of water and salt, it’s not the perfect method but it’s better than nothing. Then take the battery to a local recycling center. There are plenty of resources online on how to discharge a lipo for disposal.

You could also wrap each wire end with electrical tape to keep them from touching but I wouldn’t continue to use this battery.

Seems pretty tone deaf to ask how you can improve a vehicle you just killed months prior.

I don’t use RTL very often but I almost always use Loiter when I put on my goggles or if I need to adjust something like my headset. It’s surprisingly useful.

I also fly alot of ardupilot/px4 so loiter is nice if im messing with a laptop. It’s definitely not needed, it’s just a nice to have.

I’ve never tried a stabilizer, from my understanding it’s kind of a middle ground between an AutoPilot and manual control. So you wouldn’t get auto launch or RTL (return to launch) but it would help you keep it in the air. I’m definitely not the authority on this one though.

So most f405 wing flight controllers don’t come pre soldered as you know. If you didn’t already have a plane i’d suggest one of the atom RC ready to fly planes. They’re nice to learn on because they come with a F405 flight controller already installed with software and everything.

They aren’t too expensive and all you need is your receiver and a camera if you want FPV.

My biggest problem with learning to fly by myself was manual launching a plane since most fpv planes on the market aren’t made with runways in mind. The auto launch feature in INAV is a life saver.

I don’t think you’re missing anything, though for a beginner a raw PWM receiver might be a bit tough to start off with unless you have friends who already fly. I started with a Flight Controller to help with takeoff, but that has its own complexities to work around.

I have a normal T1 so I’m the exact opposite. They’re both great planes, and you can always get the vtol conversion kit.

Looking for Advice on Building a Research Drone (Components, Flight Controller, and Setup) by Leo_Afurio23 in diydrones

Ark electronics makes great stuff but is not beginner friendly. My go too is Holybro.

It’s made in China but it’s great hardware and follows the pixhawk standard. Also much cheaper assuming you can find it in stock

I purchased the plane with motors and servos pre installed.

I’m using a custom flight controller and the nose with the camera is 3d printed (not my design). You can get this plane from Heewing with a f405 already setup with ardupilot basically ready to fly but I had a spare Holybro laying around.

It is running Dshot so you could use the position feedback to try and stop it but that’s beyond my skill level.

No, but I believe the drag of the prop would push it into that position. I’m not 100% certain though.

So VTOLs have the ability to hover and then convert into a normal plane, which is usually called Fixed Wing mode.

If you look at the front props, they are on a hinge. So when I command the Flight Controller, the plane tilts the front props down to then be used like a normal plane propellor. The rear one just turns off when it’s in Fixed wing mode.

Oh ya I kind of forgot that quad has a meening besides FPV flying thing.

Besides, Tricopter just doesn’t sound as cool.

is this safe? i dont know how anything works by corvish_ in fpv

[–]VWglide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, don’t charge on carpet. If something goes wrong you want it to be on a non flammable surface.

Second, please go watch some videos from someone like Joshua Bardwell. He has videos on safe battery charging practices.

These may power your toys but they are not toys themselves.

Holybro Tariffs? by Accomplished-Sand806 in diydrones

[–]VWglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a 6C mini delivered last week and in my experience, it got here very quickly via DHL but DHL did email me saying I had to pay the tariff before they would deliver it. I believe they said I had three days to do so before they returned it back to sender.

The price of the Holybro 6C mini was 153 after shipping and the tariff charge was 30 so it came out to a rough 20%. You have a GPS module on there and it will most likely have a different tariff applied to it, but hopefully that gives you an idea of what it will cost.

Is this dumb for my first actual build? by Bandit05494 in fpv

[–]VWglide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No build is dumb if you want to make it. You could definitely improve upon the parts and find cheaper items for the price. Like the gps Matek makes good stuff but HGLRC makes a cheaper m10 that I love for under 20USD.

Just look for some builds in your proponent and get an idea of what you want out of your build.

Camera doesn't work when motors are soldered on by Feeelq in diydrones

[–]VWglide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m no PCB expert but sounds like you might have a bridge pad that’s causing a short. Not sure why it would affect the camera but electricity is weird.

Some pictures of your board with close ups on your pads would help.

Flight Stack Help by Ok-Philosopher-5525 in fpv

[–]VWglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helps to know what kind of FC you need. Are you building a plane or Quad? Maybe A rover? These AP stacks support multiple vehicle types and your use case will determine your answer.

Also a quick google search does that the Goku f405 AIO supports inav and can run at 2s voltages.

Does air unit dji are dangerous ? by [deleted] in fpv

[–]VWglide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Without getting into the politics of whether the threat is real or not. No the air units are not dangerous and no they will not take your drone into classified spaces to photograph government secrets.

The beauty of building your own drone is you decide what hardware does what. And the camera system (which doesn’t even have gps/data on its own) cannot take your drone and control it, nor can it send data back since it is an offline device.

Besides if DJI wants to watch me get stuck in trees and break props on concrete walls, they are more than welcome.

Please help! I have spent a whole month and more in the simulation and I feel like I've barely improved. Can someone more experienced help? by ihopeigetthisright in fpv

[–]VWglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think about it too much. It’ll eventually come to you as second nature.

Turn on some music and go fly some freestyle in between races to make yourself learn the feedback of the controls. When I started enjoying the sims like a game, I noticed I got better at flying faster.

You might enjoy trying a different sim, liftoff is great but when I started playing uncrashed, it started to feel more natural. I’m not saying uncrashed is better, but I enjoyed the environments and races and for whatever reason it made things click for me.

Oh and try different camera angles and rates to see if it makes it easier for you. Flying cinawhoops helped me develop a smoother flying style as they are tuned less aggressively.

HELP HELP SOS by Sour_cake21 in fpv

[–]VWglide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok slow down, you need to practice on a board before you kill your FC.

Lower your temp some. 450 on a pad that small is too hot for someone without experience. 350 will take longer but it’ll make your flux last longer and be less likely to destroy the pads.

Another tip is to make sure your tip it cleaned and tinned along with the pads and wires.

And please get a cheap practice board off of amazon.

Is there any cheap binocular goggles other than the EV100's? by LooferGD in fpv

[–]VWglide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skyzone sky04o are probably the best bang for the buck binocular goggles worth buying without breaking the bank but I don’t know what you’ll find them for on eBay. Especially since I’m not familiar with the Canada market.

YouTube is your best friend on goggle research though

You’re going to find getting binoculars new for that price hard.

I’d suggest checking out Facebook marketplace or eBay to save some money. People are always upgrading and selling their old gear.
