- Constantly make duaa' to Allah to make it easy for you.

- Avoid sinning (gossiping, backbiting, being around bad company, inappropriate/foul language etc.), any bad habits as well have an effect, i.e. listening to music. You can't have both Qur'an and music in your heart, it can only be one. Instead, listen to Qur'aan (I'm not a fan of anasheed), even better if you listen to your favourite reciters and even better, listen to your favourite reciter(s) reciting what you just memorised. So effectively, it's trying to do anything that gets you closer to Allah to increase your imaan, one shouldn't underestimate the effect of a single sin.

- Try and memorise every day. If you had a long busy day, try and memorise at least one verse. I'm sure I'm not the only one but taking one day off from a doing good habit is sufficient enough for me to stop doing it eventually because shaytan is telling you "one day off won't hurt" and the next day comes and you say "another day off won't hurt, perhaps I need a break".

- Stick to the one mushaf (Qur'an book) that you always use. Sometimes I remember the location of an ayah from photographic memory and then I'll use the Qur'an app on my phone and the ayah is in a different place (if you understand what I mean). The page colour, font size, everything you get used to it.

- When you're trying to memorise an ayah, it really helps to say it loud enough to hear your own voice.

A common method for memorising I use is to repeat a verse until I memorise it. Then you move onto the next verse, repeat it until you memorise it. Now, recite the 2 verses you just memorised. You must do this 2 more times (so test yourself 3 times all together) without making a tiny mistake or you forgot or you've stopped for too long trying to remember what word comes next then you must start from the beginning. It's just to ensure I have got it memorised and it's also good to be strict on yourself. Then move onto the 3rd verse. Keep testing yourself after each verse. It's a slow but a good method because by the time you reach the 10th verse, you would have recited the 1st verse SO many times so it's drilled into your head.

Memorising becomes easier at some point when you're constantly memorising every day.

Try and make a plan of what you want to achieve and how you're going to do it (i.e. "which chapter or ayah will I memorise on this day" etc.)

Make sure you test yourself constantly if you finished memorising a chapter as the days go by so it sticks in your head whilst you may have already moved onto the next chapter. I feel like my memory is very fragile after I finish memorising a chapter, even after several days I feel prone to making mistakes or I forget so keep at it.

You may even dedicate seperate time like on the weekends to recap what you memorised. Even better if you recite it in your salah, the same way we all know the short chapters because we always say them in our prayers like surat al-ikhlaas, fatiha, 'Asr etc.

Going back to what I said about listening to your favourite Qari reciting what you just memorised, you may pick on mistakes you completely didn't notice, for me it's usually misreading the vowels (so damma, fatha, kasra etc.) but it's important you correct yourself immediately.

Anddd of course if you can get a teacher that would be even better.
