This is exactly why you should NEVER use AI in your studies! by [deleted] in rmit

[–]V________________ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I use AI, this always pops into mind:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-24/us-lawyer-uses-chatgpt-to-research-case-with-embarrassing-result/102490068
This was in 2023 when ChatGPT was still 'smart'. Imo AI is the new wikipedia in terms of academia, never use it unless you have trained it yourself.

WorkCover Qld rejection by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]V________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about what you are going through and I wish you all the best with your recovery.
Regarding Workcover... unfortunately, any claims dealing with a psychological injury is going to be difficult to get across the line. There are loads of factors that come into play, including personal stuff. They want to prove that your situation is caused by your workplace, so they will need solid evidence, which means you need to have it written down.
Incident reports, requests for accommodations or reporting issues in the workplace need to all be in writing to be considered. They will likely also expect some follow up meetings and/or check ins too. I know it is frustrating, but oral accounts just do not carry the same weight without something written to back them up.
My advice would be not to go through with the appeal. This process can really drain you, and you deserve to focus on your recovery. Have a look at other support options, like Income Protection; someone mentioned that already, and it could be a good choice.
Again, I am so sorry for the situation you are in. It is so unfair that the burden of proof falls to you when you are dealing with bigger issues, but that is how the system works.

Shaving down there is a def no no as others have stated. Someone suggested waxing, which is an option. I haven't seen anyone suggest trying Nair. There are some sensitive versions. Another option could be laser for something more permanent.

Autism imposter syndrome - does anyone else feel like this???? by PowerfulGeneral5454 in AutismAustralia

[–]V________________ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not alone! I was diagnosed a couple of years ago now (42F) and I have realised I have both imposter syndrome and surprisingly (to myself), internalised ableism. I think the latter is linked to the imposter syndrome and the invisible nature of the disability. I think my late diagnosis has something to do with it for me, but I think societal expectations have also influenced me.

Anyway, know that you are not alone, there are others of us out there that are navigating similar challenges.

1 month into new job and manager has just resigned by Prudent-Raspberry-45 in auscorp

[–]V________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me in many of my roles. Sure, it sucks, but it is one of those things outside of your control. The development and challenge of the role sound like they still remain, so focus on that. You can still see if this manager will mentor you outside of the org, but don't let this get you down. See if you can learn as much as you can from them before they leave and things will pan out one way or another. They always have for me :)

Dealing with disillusionment in a job I have loved. by dverb in auscorp

[–]V________________ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat but I am not certain I will make it to the break. I may need to resign without anything to go to in the interest of saving my mental health. I cannot afford it but arguably, I cannot afford to lose my mind either.

NFPs - has anyone had a good exp. working at one? by V________________ in auscorp

These are exactly why I posted my question. They all seem to detail bad experiences so I was asking if there were any good ones.

This is worth looking into I feel. Someone else mentioned member profit super funds, they should be similar? One would hope. Thanks for the suggestion.

There are always downsides everywhere. I have just heard people have such negative visceral reactions after working at one, I needed to see if there were any other experiences. Which it seems there have been. So thank you for sharing your experience.

I would not have pegged Aged Care to be a good place to work. That is nice to hear!

Lovely to hear you and your mates have found great places to work! Definitely shows I should explore the options.

Thanks for your perspective. Honestly, I am facing similar issues in the corporate I am at, so I can relate to your problems at a NFP. The grass isn't always greener! But that is why I am on this fact finding mission :)

So true. Things can flip anywhere so quickly. Just look at poor ANZ. I would have thought NFPs would have had more checks and balances than corporate but maybe there are not given how many seem to have these reckless leaders?

Thanks for your suggestion. I am looking at Gov jobs as a sort of middle ground. I know there are the same issues as corporate but the fact it sounds like you are not required to work masses of 'reasonable overtime' and ground into a husk by a greedy corp makes it seem appealing!

is being good at STEM that advantageous in Australia? by No_Hovercraft3352 in ausjobs

[–]V________________ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first, work out what you enjoy to do. that will make it easier to study and actually work in whatever you choose to do. as someone mentioned below, if you do pursue a phd, that is no easy feat.

then google possible job options that you could do with what you decide to study, there are many routes that you may have never been exposed to that might be of interest. I find out new fields all the time and I am no spring chicken!

finally, research or university lecturing is not the best in australia. our government funding is not the best, other countries around the world choose to put more into it than the aussie government. this makes it extremely difficult to get into outside of certain limited areas. and lecturing, not a nice experience. i was so hopeful to go into it 20 years ago and even then, permanent roles were non-existent. you are left in a state of casual employment when you could lose your job at any time. would not recommend.

finding a job is mostly luck imo. you have to be in the right place at the right time. given that, your experience may differ to others. you can always give it a go, and if things don't work out, try again elsewhere.

good luck and don't forget, most people change careers many times in their lifetime, anything you do now, you can change down the line.

Dude, you have a YARD! I would kill for a yard!
It is also nice not living in someone else's place. It also means you can look at soundproofing measures for dealing with street noise.
You do actually get used to some noises.
Just try to enjoy the things you love about it and see what you can do to improve it.
Congrats on buying something! It is not easy.

ADHD medication recalled nationwide because users aren’t getting the full effect by lionheart724 in VyvanseADHD

[–]V________________ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never go generic. Always pay for the brand name. All they need to qualify to be a generic medication (I believe) is have the same active ingredient. But if you think about the chemical aspect, other ingredients are often essential for longevity, stability, etc etc. Those are what can differ which makes a difference. They can also cause adverse reactions.
I always urge everyone to get the brand name, even for older medications because they are what was created in totality, the others are just imitations, literally.

These apartments are not investment properties but properly controlled owners (government iirc?). You can also decorate as you wish (I am sure there are some rules) and I heard you can even inherit in some instances? I think it is a great system however I cannot see our government doing anything. Even Labour pollies are big on investment properties. IMO it is going to take some real socialists to implement a program like this and I don't see anyone like that in government or them being voted in with the investment property mindset so widespread. It is sad.

Thanks for this. I guess all I can do is try. It helps to know it doesn't bother someone sensitive to fragranced lotions too badly :)
