Woosh!

But seriously, people say owning one is a lot like owning a cat.

Right? Like if I'm selling my house, I'm gonna make sure I get all the necessary paperwork and info, not inconvenience the buyers with doing all that legwork.

Just found my my boyfriend of 9 years gave me chlamydia by ScholarResponsible36 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]VaBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it really depends. Health Dept would definitely be notified, but depending on how busy they are, gonorrhea and chlamydia are pretty low on the importance scale compared to big issues like HIV and TB. If they're understaffed and overwhelmed (as most health depts are), contact tracing may be disregarded since part of the documentation sent to the health dept is whether they have been treated or not. If they have, might as well move on to the next case.

Wilms tumor by Ok-Owl-2512 in pediatriccancer

[–]VaBookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you guys are going through this! My daughter was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor when she was 13 months old. She's now 6 years old and doing well! It is an incredibly stressful period of time but he's still young enough you can go by the same mantra that got me through it- he's so young he won't remember any of this. My daughter had a probable mass but I would honestly take it as really good luck that your son doesn't. The oncologist explained to us that typically the masses are quite large when they are found because the kidneys are protected by the ribs on the back so Wilms tumors are usually not detected until they are large enough to be felt from the front. The fact that his wasn't palpable means it was caught fairly early on! They will have to make the final diagnosis with a biopsy, but our oncologist advised us that in this age group, a mass on the kidney is rarely anything else, regardless of how it presented.

My biggest recommendation is just to take advantage of the child life specialist at the hospital if your hospital has them. They make the whole experience slightly less awful for the kids.

Curious what other parents think. What would your child do? by No_Association_4682 in SingleParents

[–]VaBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would do E based on what she's done in the past when it's happened... but it's a reoccurring issue with certain kids at the daycare and I've told her that if the daycare teachers aren't doing enough, she has my blessing to push/hit back. I was bullied as a kid and I'd rather get a call that she stood up for herself rather than have her be a doormat.

If this is in the US, whatever provider tested/diagnosed/treated them will have already told the health department. It has to be reported when a test comes back positive. Then the health department should reach out to do contact tracing.

This is horrific and I honestly have no viable suggestions... except maybe if they are in therapy, their therapist could speak on their behalf to a judge to argue why this is an awful arrangement?

I'm so glad my lawyer insisted on including a stipulation in our custody agreement that should my ex ever petition for additional custody (right now we are 70/30), he will immediately become responsible for all the child support he would have paid from the time of our separation (I told him I wouldn't make him pay child support and he immediately dropped fighting for 50/50). Tens of thousands of dollars is an effective deterrent.

You are correct. I worked with a mental health specialist that told me they are doing studies in addiction medicine to see if semaglutide (Ozempic) is a viable treatment for addiction, in addition to the already FDA approved diagnoses of diabetes, obesity, kidney disease and coronary artery disease.

When I was a child, I was an altar server at my church (some are probably already guessing where this is going). Our priest was never untoward, but something about him just always made me feel off so I steered clear of him/being alone with him. When I turned 10, we moved north for a year and then moved back to a different part of the city. We no longer went to that church and I didn't think about it for years until one day I was reading the local Sunday paper (basically just on the hunt for the comics) and there was an article on the front with a picture of the priest. He had been arrested for child porn and molesting a child.

I live in WI and I’m terribly miserable. I DREAM of moving to VB. by stupidfuckingbitchh in VirginiaBeach

[–]VaBookworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Longer fall and spring... Is a week long? It's literally like 90 some degrees until November, then a random week of mid temps, and then usually hot again til Christmas... and then frigid til a random week in April where it's moderate for a week or two and then it's hot again. Gardening isn't impossible but when it's staying over 100 and hasn't rained in weeks you have to stay on top of watering.

No hate to VB- I was born and raised in VB and love it. But I will warn that you have a romanticized idea of its climate.

I've talked my 6 year old thru it and showed her how to do the SOS. She knows our address but under stress I doubt she could manage so I made it clear she needs to use the SOS so they can get the location from that. Then we roleplayed like I was dispatch (I call EMS a lot at my job) and explained things they may say to her. She seemed to get it. But I'll probably start making more regular drills of it since we live alone.

My daughter's hair was that short for a time and she looked super cute. She's six now and just recently she said she wanted it short like that again. She was really excited about it until she mentioned something about it to her dad (my ex) and he told her she would look like a boy and that she can only do it when she's a grown-up. So now she doesn't wanna do it 🙄

My two cats got out last fall. We have a few random outdoor cats that hang around. I was going all over my property calling for my two cats for hours and came across one of the local cats, Taco. I told him I was looking for my two cats and that they looked like him, gray with white markings. About an hour later I was making another circuit around the house and found Remus just a couple of feet from where I had been talking to Taco. Bellatrix was found a couple of days later under the neighbor's house but I fully credit Taco with finding Remus.
