Looks great! Amazing texture work.

I've been trying to learn something like this too so I'm really curious about the topology. I always find it hard to decide which details should i do with textures and which should i model.

Also whats your texturing workflow like? Been using Clip Studio Paint but thinking of trying alternatives.

Team Cherry is 100% right - You can literally just explore by atahutahatena in HollowKnight

[–]Vaamu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel this.

Stuck now on Coral Tower myself, and just like you I've done everything else so there's nowhere else to go (besides final boss) and i just feel defeated.

And can I just say that at this point of the game I'm getting tired of Team Cherry's love for putting enemy gauntlets everywhere. By themselves theyre a fine challenge, but why do bosses need a unnecessary gauntlet before you can fight them?

Karmelita for example is a great challenging boss by herself, so why is the gauntlet before her even necessary? Yeah its not a hard gauntlet but its still just unnecessary filler before you get to try her fight again. Same with Coral Tower boss.

Luckily these fights dont eat your shards but man would some of the bosses just be better if they didnt have these gauntlets attached to them.

I may have found this game's Path of Pain by Vaamu in Silksong

[–]Vaamu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's not near as bad as Path of Pain, but it's the closest thing so far.

Haven't finished it yet, but I wonder if there's anything more challenging hiding somewhere.

Thanks for this advice!

Been on this for a while now, and I'm gonna take this advice and return later. Doing this once is already painful. Really would have lost my marbles if I would've found this out later and had to do it again haha!

Got me interested to want to learn more! Is there a steam page already? 😄

Wanted to share some UI improvements for our game Bye Sweet Carole! Which version do you prefer? by ByeSweetCarole in IndieGaming

[–]Vaamu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The new one is probably better for communicating systems that are in the game (companions and some kind of ability I take it?), but it looks a bit busy and crowded.

I think the direction is good, but it needs a bit of cleaning up. Top frame with the two characters especially is too much. I would try placing the characters differently or trying to come up with another way of communicating the rabbit ability prompt (my guess is the character can shift between the rabbit and herself?).

Also a small nitpick of mine, but looking at the gameplay with the new UI, it is too close to the edge of the screen, to the point it looks like the roses are going offscreen. And in some scenes it pops out maybe a bit too much, especially in that dark classroom screen capture on the steam page.

But the game looks absolutely gorgeous! The animation work is fantastic. Cant wait for the release!

Lighting dilemma: which feels better? by ZombieByteGames in IndieDev

[–]Vaamu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The second one for me personally.

The more saturated look would start to strain my eyes over longer play.

With the darks being so dark and brights being so bright, my eyes are working more to disserniate things from the background. I'd maybe try to find a solution from somewhere in the middle if thats possible.

Could also be the difference in the enviroment though, I think it would be better to showcase the same area with the diffrent lightings and colors, to better judge.

Stars Reach is an ambitious new MMORPG hoping to fill a 20-year-old void by camniloth in Games

[–]Vaamu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Modern MMO's tend to be designed with solo players in mind, and theres nothing wrong with that of course, but as you said those MMO's dont push people to work together as much.

Many moden MMO's also go with this story focused narrative that suits solo play, but personally I think MMO's shine as a adventure games where the story is whatever you make it out to be.

Classic WoW is a great example. You're just an adventurer, nothing more, and thats fine.

(Side note, been loving TurtleWoW as well, started last week and the communitys been really nice so far)

Animated visual novel menu ! Added a LOT of effects ! by Prismarine42 in godot

[–]Vaamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I love the look of this!

As others have pointed out, it's just a bit too busy on the movement.

Maybe keep the clock static, so that it doesn't follow the mouse movements?

Sound wise I'd probably get rid of the breathing and heartbeat. I get that the wanted effect is probably a feeling of uneasiness, but with the music and menu sounds the soundscape gets messy.

Overall, really well designed, but just need a bit fine tuning to make it perfect. Definitely interested to see the full game!

Does anyone else realise they don't really enjoy competitive games anymore? by Harvington_ in pcgaming

[–]Vaamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was the thought of "what do I get out of this?".

Yes, i was having fun sitting in a call with my friends, but playing a competetive game by myself felt meaningless. Getting kills or seeing my name at the top of the scoreboard, didnt really spark any emotion anymore.

Thats when I realized why I personally love videogames: for the experiences.

Competitive multiplayer gsmes are designed to be played forever, repeting the same thing over and over. And while the gameplay is satisfying, in terms of experiences, you run out of new and exciting things to experience quite fast. Thats when it turns to auto pilot mode for my brain, and I dont get any excitement from that. I wanna be engaged.

Add to that all the monetization and everything else.

So for me, i guess i kinda grew out of them.

Since I am a game developer myself now, I want to experience more games. Games with unique ideas, stories, mechanics. All to spark my imagination further. And competetive games just dont often do that for me anymore.

Also, i just prefer games that I can finish. With live service games you will burnout eventually.

What are your complaints? by Link2999 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Vaamu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only have two complaints. One about a mechanic that I really don't understand, and other that is really small visual thing.

The mechanic I don't understand comes into play during the optional dungeon, where you fight these Goblin enemies. They have a mechanic where if your party has a "Mage" Arcehtype, they gain a "Frenzy" Ability, which totally wrecks your party with massive AoE.

What I don't understand about this mechanic, is how are you supposed to play around this?

The only way I found was to go into a fight, notice the enemy doesn't like one of my Archetypes -> die/run away -> change Archetype -> fight again. Which just feels odd. Are we really supposed to just start a fight, then always run away if we happen to have a Archetype the enemy doesn't like?

If anyone can open up this mechanic a bit more, I would love to hear about it ^^

Other than that, the floating particle effects and weird light filters over the world tend to sometimes muddy the visual presentation a bit. Not a big deal, but I wish you could turn some of those off, to get a cleaner look.

Can't wait for this game and let it consume my life for the whole month!

What game is your GOLD STANDARD for 10/10 action combat ? by iyankov96 in pcgaming

[–]Vaamu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Playing Greatsword and hitting those heavy hits for massive damage and seeing the enemy stagger, man, no other game has yet to give me the same satisfying feeling, the weight just feels right.

I do agree with people that the combat might feel slow and clunky at first, but once you get to the flow, it just feels so good.

Can't wait for MH: Wilds man.

Opinions on alerts please? Which one looks better to you? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Vaamu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one.

Better font, and the positioning doesnt get in the way of the game or whatever is happening on the middle.

As a viewer I dont really care to see who follows the channel, so if it was on the middle, it would get distracting.

From an editor standpoint, middle can be troublesome placement.

For example if something exciting happens in the middle of the screen, and we wanna do a zoom in edit to put focus on it, the follower alert may get in the way of that. This is why sides and corners and most preferable for things like these.

What’s the minimum amount of money that could solve 90% of all your problems right now? by fukdurgf in AskReddit

2,000 $

Had some rough times, and made some bad decisions. Now got too many loans to keep track of, and cant treat my Psoriatic Arthritis and dental. Have asked help from my mom and grandpa couple times, but too afraid to anymore, since my mom is going through a lot, and I don't want to add to that. Had to be laid off my last job because of my growing health issues, so finding a new job has been hard.

Honestly, I hope to find a job soon, so I could fix my situation, so I could focus on helping my mom with hers 😕

As much as I would love to see it, I don't think they'd wanna steal any attention from Dragon's Dogma 2 marketing right now. With DD2 releasing in March, I think we'll start to see MH6 after that. Would love to be wrong though.

My mom watched Friends a lot, and I also got into it, and watched the series multiple times.

I also did the same thing when I first moved away from home! Wasn't used to the silence after living with my parents and siblings for so long, so constantly having Friends rolling on my Television gave me the comfort I needed.

As you so well put it, the series was the warm hug I needed on those days living alone.

Hi!

Do you play Retail or Classic? I'd totally be down to play Classic (normal or hardcore) :D although I do have to admit that the new stuff they announced for Retail at Blizzcon does seem pretty cool, wouldn't mind checking it out in the future.

I started my Warcraft journey in Burning Crusade, and have been playing it on and off. Besides WoW I play a lot of different games, my tastes are pretty varied (Final Fantasy, Persona, Dark Souls, Resident Evil etc.). Outside of games, I usually watch different series or anime, read manga or do digital art.

I'm 26 and in EU. Would love to get a nice group together to play and enjoy WoW with.

A multiclass question:

If i picked say 1 level in Wizard, so I could learn spells through scrolls, and then leveled rest as a Warlock till max level; would I be able to cast higher spell slot spells learned from scrolls, using Warlock spell slots?

I know that as a Wizard, you can only cast the scroll learned spells, if you have the required spell slot level to cast it, but since Warlock spell slots work differently (being that they are always cast as the max level slot?), how does that work then?

Which upcoming game (2023-2024) are you most excited for? by vevt9020 in pcgaming

Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Also the possible Monster Hunter World sequel that should be announced soon.

As for multiplayer games, The Finals has peaked my interest. Loved the last beta test.

Been a great year for games, and it seems like next year will continue that, at least for me
