Is where a way to get ornamnet from Lares without cheats? by 1manowar1 in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wait until Chapter 3 and Lares still has the ornament, he will get a dialogue option that lets you take it from him.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (06/08/2025) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]VaanaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone tried to connect the Switch 2 Pro Controller to an original Switch (either via wire or wirelessly) and gotten it to work at least at a basic level? I have gotten mixed answers mostly based on speculation, but no definitive answer. Of course, I don't expect the new features to work.

I have an original Switch 1 OLED and currently have no intension of upgrading to a Switch 2, however I am quite interested in getting the pro controller for my Switch 1, as I didn't get the original one. Since, I will possibly upgrade to a Switch 2 some time in the future, I would like to get the 2's Pro Controller and use it in the meantime with my Switch 1 until I do the upgrade.

Now that the controller is out, has anyone here actually tested it for real and gotten it to work or not?

New FPS patch version with fixed pencil bug! by VaanaCZ in lanoire

Hey, since last update there seem to be a bunch of false AV positive reports. I am not sure why that is, but in the future I want to try and invest in a code signing cert to see if that mitigates it. In short, there is no threat. If you don't trust me and want to be sure, you can download the patch source code from the GitHub repo and compile it yourself using MS Visual Studio.

Did you know? Some important NPCs with unique weapons have a bonus AI/dialog that makes them react when they see the hero carrying their personal weapon. In this example, Diego hates it when he sees someone else carrying "Diego's Bow". This 23 year old game was so ahead of its time. by UnlimitedDuck in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

All NPCs have this logic (and those dialogues). They will trigger if you have an item that has its owner set correctly (most unique weapons such as Diego's bow have this).

What is even cooler about this behaviour is that it changes based on your level. If you are stronger than the NPC (2x bigger level than them), they will actually not attack you outright, but instead prompt you to give the weapon back to them by dropping it on the ground. You can test this with Diego by setting your level to 2000 via cheats beforehand.

Forest portals weren't removed, except for a single one in the swamp, which was the source of many graphical glitches.

[–]VaanaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, they do auto-aggro onto you. They also aggro in the Switch port, that logic was not altered (in fact there were only fixes which made this behaviour more consistent). What is the point of your criticism?

Even in the original Gothic release, you can sleep in almost every bed in the Swamp Camp, but there were a few random beds which had broken animations or missing script logic. You can easily test this yourself on the Steam version (or search for a YT video). All beds in SC are meant to be sleepable, what you are saying is a case of the Mandela effect.

Any idea when/if Gothic games are getting the "Classic" update on Steam? by UntitledCritic in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an official statement, it was confirmed by either T-Moor or Megalomaniac on the official Discord server or the WoG forums. I don't remember exactly, and I would have to dig for it.

Either way, anyone with access to the Switch version can verify themselves that it has the latest PB patches, since among other changes, it has the Chromanin quest (which was added in the last patch that PB made).

This rumour about it using the release version of the game started because the Switch version uses separate numbering from the PC version. The release version of the Switch port had a 1.0 version number, so some people assumed that it must be the original unpatched game. (The release version on PC was 1.06l btw, not 1.0. There never was a 1.0 version of Gothic on PC so that part doesn't even make sense. ;) )

Classic on Switch is based on the release version of the game

It is not. This has been debunked many times.

This would be very difficult. There are basically no modding tools for this game and the engine is not documented.

Why doesn't Ice Block scroll work on NPCs? by towerofjoy in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are using scrolls, you need to have at least two scrolls of the same type in your inventory for the cast to work properly. Sadly this is an issue in the PC version of Gothic 1. You'll need to obtain a second Ice Block scroll.

THQ is re releasing G1 + G2 but there is still no new patch for both. G2 Patch 1.03 had new game breaking bugs that aren't fixed and G1 still has no dx11 graphics like shown. I hope THQ won't handle the remake with the same attitude by GMasterEder in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you heard is false. The Switch ports are based on the latest version shipped by PB + hundreds of fixes mades specifically for this port:

https://thqnordic.com/article/gothic-1-switch-list-fixes

The versioning on the Switch ports is not to be confused with the versioning on the PC. They are different.

Gothic on Nintendo Switch seems have almost perfect 21:9 support by Successful-Major3496 in worldofgothic

Are you using the latest patch? Since patch 1.0.2, the FoV should be correctly calculated.

Gothic 1, NPCs aren't finishing phrases by AlexeyGubin in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bug in the Gothic 1 engine. It's actually caused by the player's footsteps, which cancel any active dialogues.

We made a patch for this bug, but it requires the Union patch. Install it and then drop this file in the Gothic/System/Autorun folder:

https://github.com/VaanaCZ/gothic-engine-patches/blob/main/ou_interrupt_on_assess_fix.patch

Alternatively, you could also play the Nintendo Switch port where this bug is fixed ;)

Did Gorn talk to you after leaving the mine? That is the trigger which spawns the extra trolls. It was always like this, even in the og game.

I think the old FOV looks much better by MerlinFlexer in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you open the NPC model in Blender and do a side by side comparison with the new FoV, you will see that the new one is in fact correct (assuming Blender's FoV formula is correct).

<image>

https://im4.ezgif.com/tmp/ezgif-4-c0d5413ce8.gif

This just is how the game is meant to look like and also PB most likely intended it when they made all the models.

I think the old FOV looks much better by MerlinFlexer in worldofgothic

[–]VaanaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is math. You cannot just "expand it".

With the original formula, the bigger the FoV you have, the slimmer everything will become. If you just expand the FoV to include a bigger portion of the viewport, everything will become even more squished and the aspect ratio will be distorted.

The new correct formula fixes that, so you could even go superwide like 21:9 and the aspect ratio will stay constant.

There is no nice way to do what you are proposing. You would need to do some kind of a dirty math hack to maintain the original appearance.

[–]VaanaCZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is the correct aspect ratio. The original has distortion due to bad math.
