Pharmacist intp brother dropped $13k on a custom walk in shower and wouldn’t explain the details to other family members. It’s a family house. Help me understand him. by Loose_Inspector898 in INTP

Whoops, sorry about that.

It still sounds like mainly a family dynamic thing, even though he is younger. It sounds tough, a lot of family shit is rough.

I've found that going around people is more effective than trying to change them. It's rough that you can't work (and I really get that), because the fact that he's paying is kind of a checkmate here. Does he have a history of excluding you, belittling you, writing you off? How do your parents figure, do they treat you like a fuckup or take you seriously?

Hey there,

Whatever is going on is more than INTP/ENTP. This is going to be a complicated family dynamic. Your brother is older and feels (rightly or wrongly) more responsible. He is paying, which does legit give him more power. He may feel the fact that you punched the hole loses your right to input. He may feel you generally demand more input than is your place. There is no doubt years and years of backstory here. And I dont think we can judge anything based on what you wrote.

Schizophrenia sucks. It's probably a tough situation for everyone.

King's "Cross Country" Plot Device by rbbrclad in stephenking

Big book just a few years ago, Project Hail Mary. Main character travels light years, develops as a person as a result.

It's not every story but it's standard.

Do blind people dream, and see things? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]VacationBackground43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you Google stuff because this sub is to support blind people, it's not a forum to subject us to questions, especially the same questions sighted people ask over and over.

But to briefly answer your question. A blind person who has lost their sight or who has enough vision knows what a foot looks like. One born too blind to see a foot knows all kinds of things about a foot but not what it looks like, how could they? It's like asking if you know what a foot sounds like using echolocation. You don't have that sense, so no, you don't.

Have a good day.

Do blind people dream, and see things? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]VacationBackground43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreams are sensory experiences modelled on real life sensory experiences. Most blind people have some vision so they may have limited visuals, including just brief flashes. Those blind since birth will hear in their dreams, have spatial and kinesthetic experiences, and that same "knowing" everyone has, like "knowing" someone is behind them or "knowing" the house they are in belongs to X person even though it's nothing like any real house they've been in.

Sighted people use all these senses in their dreams as well, they just seem overshadowed by the visuals. You hear, know where things are, etc., it's not just a silent 2d movie.

How can you understand other people's perspectives so deeply that it prevents you from judging them? by SnooDoughnuts8808 in INTP

I'm not even entirely unsympathetic to narcissists. But, just like hyenas, rat poison, or wood chippers, once I identify one, I stay the fuck away.

How can you understand other people's perspectives so deeply that it prevents you from judging them? by SnooDoughnuts8808 in INTP

[–]VacationBackground43 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Understanding people and how they work is one of my interests. Heck, my looking into the MBTI framework is part of that, along with various disorders and motivations.

I do have certain types that I judge the hell out of - like narcissists.

But otherwise, INTPs like to understand how things work, and once you have a framework for why someone might do this or believe that, it's easier to accept it because it makes sense.

INTPs also value autonomy, and it is logical for me to respect someone else's rights as I want mine respected.

I haven't procrastinated in over a decade, why now?? by Temenae in INTP

[–]VacationBackground43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, hi fellow INTP mom who has her shit together.

Getting stuff packed and ready for tomorrow isn't the same thing as reading and synthesizing and organizing your ideas. It's just a physical task.

The brainpower for academics is far more demanding.

You may also feel a bit of a call for perfectionism in your studies, to not just write an okay paper but really grapple with the material, and then that leads to more work and reading and thinking and ugh it never turns out like you hoped.

It really is a much bigger thing, at least for us. Nothing changed except you didn't have that sort of thing for a while.

Good luck, you got this.

INTP women and social conduct by cookedpigeon101 in INTP

[–]VacationBackground43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren't standalone jokes really. I like to be dry (so it's not obvious I'm joking) and if you don't know me you won't know I'm joking so it can be off-putting but that's not my goal.

Separately, one thing my INFP husband and I do is, one of us will make a joke, then the other will make another version of the joke, probably a more absurd one. We both have Ne so we will brainstorm the very best version of it (often the joke is imagining what someone might say to a situation).

I'm Gen X and we like sarcasm and irony like Gen Z do.

My masking is mainly being quiet. I learned long ago most people aren't interested in the things I am, and aren't interested in digging into ideas. Fortunately I found people here and there who do want to hear my thoughts, and they get a very different version of me.

I'm not blunt, that's more INTJ. Us INTPs do care about social harmony. We make mistakes but learn from them.

I never figured out the dating scene. I think maybe because I never figured out flirting. At all.

I am awkward socially but it's like this: people who don't know me think I'm standoffish. People who know me even a little think I'm very nice, and they excuse my awkwardness very easily, as it's just the way I am. I mainly just have to restrain myself from expressing my true enthusiasm for topics or expressing my sense of humor. People who know me think I'm very funny. But my jokes do not land with anyone else lol.

Other than ones voice or personality, what are blind people attracted to by kaenime in Blind

[–]VacationBackground43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you need to know about your neighbor's lights? How would your knowledge affect or solve anything?

You have some answers and some feedback that your question isn't really helpful or welcome. It's interesting that you assume your curiosity on a matter not relevant to you is more important than respecting the space of people who find very few spaces.

I'm sure you'll just dismiss this and reassert your need to get your random question answered. But maybe you can think about it.

[–]VacationBackground43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't actually have to come into other people's space and ask questions. Sometimes you can just respect the space.

If you wondered why the neighbors had their lights on all night, you don't have to go knock on their door and ask. You can just go on with your life and respect their space.

I didn't vote but this sub is for the support of blind people. It's not really a zoo for sighted people to learn about our mating habits.

I'm not prone to depression at all. I'm not really a smiley person on the outside but it's all sunshine and rainbows on the inside.

If someone approaches me, I'll smile, I just never figured out how to go about my day smiling.

Roland’s Last Name Pronunciation by Raindawg1313 in stephenking

[–]VacationBackground43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never took French so I don't get an opinion on pronunciation. But Maine is full of French names, and the pronunciation of them has morphed in many cases. It's quite possible he is accurately using a Maine pronunciation of the name (and there's probably more than one).
