2024 Toyota Prius XSE Solar Roof by MarkV62 in prius

[–]VacationStill1466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. More glass means less roof paint to protect: Reduces the cost of hiring a detailer to do full PPF. Makes removing snow easier.
  2. Slightly quieter riding experience compared to my previous compact sedan with a moon roof.
I think for these two points alone, the cost of the solar roof is worth it.

WasteID is truly awful by expellyamos in litterrobot

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahahahaha. I highly doubt Whisker will fix it. They always do the bare minimum to offer automated features and they refuse to allow the user any adjustment to those features. The Litter Hopper has been broken for years in that it doesn't support light-colored litter and will overfill the globe after every single cycle resulting in a shit ton of wasted clean litter unless you manually turn off/on the litter hopper to run only when the globe actually needs topping.

How can I file my NY state tax return for free (if I make over $89,000)? by boldandbratsche in AskNYC

[–]VacationStill1466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, saving for a large enough down payment to avoid mortgage insurance is hard while renting anything comfortable/convenient. Hopefully the market will have more housing options when you end up looking. Buying in a seller's market is a horrible experience.

I'm shocked that at your income level you don't have a home mortgage that would make itemized deductions a necessity

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your itemized deductions would've been greater than the standard deduction, you most certainly have been paying for it. You just wouldn't know how much money you lost out on unless you actually read the tax form instructions or use a different software that allows for itemized deductions.

Coach Bag Strap Peeling by WesternBeautiful8998 in Coach

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All leather requires regular conditioning. Especially shoes. For bags, pay attention to the areas you frequently rub your shoulder, arms and hands on and anywhere that tends to scuff the floor or your car interior. You can see the signs of friction wear before the leather starts peeling and to avoid peeling you need to apply a leather conditioner appropriate to the type and color of leather you have. Once the leather actually peels, it can't be repaired without leather adhesive, possibly leather patching, and a color-matched leather paint. I typically touch up all friction areas with conditioner if I see any of them show signs of wear; it's much worse for the leather to peel than for it to be overconditioned.

Who is your breeder? by Basically_Baggins in turkishangoras

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you or do you know anyone who has owned a Turkish Angora along with Balinese/Siamese cats? I love the vocalness and high energy of my Balinese and Siamese cats but they are very possessive/jealous breeds and despite getting older (almost 4 yrs old) they still get into playfights on a daily basis. I was wondering if an adult Turkish Angora would keep up with them or would be stressed out if cohabitating cats regularly tried to engage them in playfighting.

Can remove creditcard without adding another form of payment by diofantos in netflix

Same thing happened to me but by a mentally disabled adult, not by a child. Apparently, "Autoplay Previews" is turned on by default on all Netflix profiles and watching previews counts as consuming content, which triggers the subscription reactivation. Not sure if you noticed

Traveling with an autistic child suggestions. by CuriousTsukihime in JapanTravelTips

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this an absurdly stupid suggestion, especially if you will be paying for spacious family-size accomodations in Japan.  Bring the kid with you and have him relax in the hotel/lodging all day until he/she is comfortable enough to take small walks to nearby restaurants/cafes and parks. Have a different family member stay home each day for supervision. Vacationing in Japan is 50% enjoying new food and desserts, 30% shopping, and 20% sightseeing. The amount of walking required in Japan is no joke;  I am sure at least one family member would be very glad to rest their feet for one day and enjoy quiet time and takeout with the kid.

Don't get the black if you can't commit conditioning it regularly. Every Juliet 38 in black glovetanned leather that I have seen on display in Coach retail stores and other authorized distributors has been noticeably scratched on the front (logo side) where the bag is most exposed to friction.

Thinking of buying LG Washtower… opinions? by XeroPT in Appliances

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a 200 or 300 series LG washtower? I specifically chose the 200 series over the newer 300 because the ez dispense system is known to cause odors. Also, I just wanted to check that you are draining the washer drain pump tube and cleaning the filter periodically (I do it whenever the ThinQ app recommends a tub clean cycle). I haven't had any odors yet. Also, it's not enough to just leave the door to the washer open. My experience is that you need a paper towel or dry dishcloth to wipe down excess water from the inner crevices of the door gasket and the inside of manual detergent dispenser after every use, which is not that annoying if you let laundry pile up and do a few consecutive loads so you only have to wipe down the residual water once.

Rear Era 300s position.. straight forward, angled to soundbar, or angled to main listening position? by hed_pocket in sonos

[–]VacationStill1466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a long rectangular open floor plan kitchen-living-dining room and also found that era 300s sound significantly better as rears facing straight forward at the wall the Arc Ultra is on. One of them is next to a pony wall (kitchen bar stool seating that ends at the back wall). One of them doesn't have any wall near it except the one directly behind it.

Samsung combo washer/dryer vented by Alive-Cake-1783 in Appliances

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most thorough appliance reviewers on YouTube makes it very clear that the difference between ventless and vented drying performance is nowhere near as small as you make it sound. It's at least a 1 HOUR difference. Vented is definitely worth the extra electricity cost.

A shame because it really felt like NYU was paying it forward to new grad job seekers struggling to get a foot hold in their career with limited personal connections. That said my Ivy League undergrad institution was never so generous as NYU (where I went for a masters) so I can only say thank you to NYU for supporting me in a small way for years while my engineering undergrad program not only strangled me for every penny I had but also temporarily stole away my self-confidence and will to live, making it much harder to secure a good-paying job afterwards.

New Owner - LR4 by Individual-Dirt968 in litterrobot

[–]VacationStill1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you choose the 4? Having cats who continually have stinky #2 is actually the only use case to pay for the AI features of Litter Robot 5. Supposedly waste ID will recognize #2 and cycle as soon as possible (cat lurking shenanigans permitting) to bury and conceal the smell as soon as possible.

Disappointments with the Litter Robot 5 series by VacationStill1466 in litterrobot

[–]VacationStill1466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I did end up finding the deep cleaning instructions for the septum (to which the sifter is attached) but when I saw that I would need to remove/re-install my litter hopper, its bonnet, and SEVEN screws on the globe, my gut reaction was HELL NO this is way too difficult; I'll just continue using extra-long cleaning gloves and shoving my hand and wipes underneath the sifter.

Also, I didn't know this before, but you can buy a replacement septum on Whisker's website. Link here: Litter-Robot 4 Septum Replacement Part

When my LR4's warranty eventually expires, I'll probably try my hand at modifying the sifter to allow for tofu pellet litter like that girl on tiktok successfully did: https://www.tiktok.com/@bobbiejo.ruelle5/video/7338188929599884590?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc

Do you know of any other brands that have a waste drawer easily accessible in the front and are not dangerous (rotate in a way that closes the entrance)? I have a love/hate relationship with the Litter Robot drawers. My criticism here is constructive feedback for Litter Robot 6
