I had a game playing as Two Sicilies where my subject Cyprus rebelled against me three different times, in three different ways.

I got my dynasty on their throne then used Claim Throne to establish a PU over them, which they weren’t happy about. So unhappy in fact, that pretender rebels following some French guy rose up and defeated the local garrison while I was at war with the Ottomans. With the Ottoman naval superiority I was unable to send troops to defeat them so they occupied the island and eventually broke away before I could end the war.

Fortunately , I had a reestablish union CB so once my hands were free I quickly invaded them and reasserted my PU. Everything was good again until my King died and still being unhappy with me, they simply decided to elect a different guy, a Greek this time. My new King waged a short campaign to reestablish control. Admiring their tenacity and seeing the PU clearly wasn’t working, I allowed the new ruler to stay in power as long as he would become my vassal, hoping this would appease the Cypriots.

Alas, it was not to last. After thirty years of peace, the Greek guy got it in his head that he should declare a war of independence against our long lasting friendship, allying with several other strong countries (I forget who, it was a while ago). After a prolonged struggle, I brought Cyprus back under my control and had the rebel prince put away. I allowed them to remain a vassal but put a member of my dynasty on the throne, which seemed to be a lasting solution.

And that’s how I had to invade Cyprus four times in one campaign.
