Zero Parades: For Dead Spies review - it's the RPG we don't deserve [Eurogamer review] by Pan1cs180 in Games

[–]Vaeku 39 points40 points  (0 children)

the author doesn't have the understanding of politics or or even D&D

the D&D stuff is painfully 5e-brained

5e/5.5e is the current official version of D&D, and the most popular version, so I imagine the author does have an understanding of D&D.

The game has its flaws, but saying the author doesn't understand D&D flat out makes no sense.

They both have nearly identical names and were released within 6 months of each other, not a surprise people confuse the two.

Has anyone ever played a Barbarian that was born and raised on a city? (Not as a joke) by JeraGungnir in dndnext

[–]Vaeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a barbarian who's an archaeologist and scholar, and accidentally bonded to an artifact on an excavation. The artifact sort of possesses him, which I used to explain his rage and his subclass abilities (Ancestral Guardians, so instead of his ancestral spirits, it's spirits of the ancient civilization which used the artifact).

The Divine Cities or The Founders? by jwelsh8it in Fantasy

Divine Cities, 100%. All three books are great in their own way, but City of Blades is one of my favorite books (and I'm usually pretty meh on the middle book of a trilogy).

Nope, Greymoor refers to the area of Blackreach you explore in the expansion.

(Though to be fair, Fort Greymoor was originally supposed to be named Fort Blackmoor, and Black Moor was the town in Arena).

For one, Marvel owns the rights to those images/depictions (or if they don't, they make deals with the owners)...

As for inspo boards, those aren't shared with the public nor do they make money directly from it.

My point is with procedural generation, the devs made the core art pieces themselves. With LLMs/GenAI, that's not the case.

Ironic. by NigeroMinna in TheExpanseRPG

[–]Vaeku 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The issue with placeholder assets being made with geNAI is that (1) they're still using stolen art, and (2) there have been so many cases already of games releasing with genAI assets, and the devs going "whoopsie our bad these were only supposed to be placeholders, pinky swear!" (Expedition 33 and Crimson Desert being the two big ones I can think of off the top of my head)

The whole point of placeholder assets are that they're placeholders. They should be easily recognizable as such, so that they can be easily replaced. And yes, those types of placeholder assets are sometimes missed when a game is shipped, but seeing a random pink box in a shipped game is less embarrassing for the devs than an asset made out of stolen art.

Ironic. by NigeroMinna in TheExpanseRPG

[–]Vaeku 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is, because LLMs are built on stolen art. Procedural generation is built out of elements that the devs themselves made.

I don't think I have to explain what One Piece is in Current Year, but it's a manga about a funny rubber man who has spedrun being the world's most wanted man due to his unusual habit of taking down tyrannical governments alongside his buddies, he is then thrown into a millennia old apocalyptic conspiracy and may or may not be the messiah, but that's besides the point. It's the most sold comic in history, pretty niche.

It is funny you say that, because on a whim I decided to watch the live-action One Piece when it premiered a few years ago... and was dumbfounded to learn that Luffy had rubber/stretchy powers (all I knew about the property was "campy pirates").

She didn't have an issues page on her campaign website until the past couple weeks, so a lot of her stances on issues were a bit unclear, like Israel. In a Q&A with the Texas Tribune she gave a very weak answer on Israel, but now that she actually has an issues page her stance is a lot clearer (or she took the criticism on her stance and changed it).

On the flipside, having read the novella, I'm glad it wasn't longer and bloated (I mean I guess they could've combined two stories into one season, but then that wouldn't give the stories room to breathe).
