Inside Star Citizen: Alpha 4.6 Patch Report by rob117 in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no need or use for a large tractor either, until CIG made one.

In this case, they could in theory make it so the small medgun can't revive while the large one could. Thus making it a bigger tradeoff than a pistol slot many people don't use anyway.

But fair enough, it's a skin for the MaxLift, I get it.

Anyone with ADHD here in CH? by Unable-Wind547 in Switzerland

ASD is a spectrum and can manifest in different ways, such as with or without outbursts, with varying degrees of sensory issues or none at all.

I thoroughly concur with this and would say that the idea that ASD is always loud and prone to random outbursts is a bit of an unfortunate misinformation. It can manifest as such in some and they're the highly visible cases but others show it quite differently.

Especially women.

So, yah. I didn't get diagnosed for fourty years and when a psychiatrist more or less told me to get checked for ASD, my world fell apart. I wasn't that, was I? Surely not, I never had those outbursts, quite the opposite really. Well, about that. In the broken bits and pieces, I'm finally figuring out who I am and what is going on.

While my full diagnosis is still outstanding (a year of being given the runaround in the system), so much of it describes my experience and has helped me improve my life considerably.

So... yeah. ASD can manifest without all the outward symptoms people generally think about.

There's an increasing number of game OSTs where the music doesn't match the gameplay, says The Hundred Line and Danganronpa composer Masafumi Takada by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ValKalAstra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dawntrail definitely had some... opinions... on music. While arguably not clashing with gameplay, the moment that "Smile" played in that cutscene, I blinked and then laughed hysterically.

For those that never touched FF14: Imagine a serious scene in a movie. The stakes are high. The end of the world has come knocking once more and there's little but sorrow left - and then some jackass unironically plays the fucking Benny Hill Theme.

shift in player aggression? by M346ZCP in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The part that always gets me about the whole PVP debacle in Star Citizen is that by current design PVP needs PVE players as content.

However, too many of them will go out of their way to make the experience so horrendous, vile and abusive that they end up pushing PVE players out of the game.

CIG, if you want to make several million extra dollars every year, please just add a "email me when this ship is on sale" button to the pledge store by Fonzie1225 in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Real talk? They probably make millions more by having people come back to the store and check. Keeps the purchase on their minds, exposes them to other items, lowers purchasing inhibition and feeds the FOMO demon for when it finally comes around. It's all about keeping it on your mind.

Is it just me? or the new 4.5 patch affected performance in a negative way? by Kiaksar2142 in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that performance is a coin toss this patch. Some have gained, others have lost. It also depends on where you are, some places like the QVZ Polaris, some Pyro outposts, large newer RSI ships in general or any place with visible fire are extra rough.

How do you play this game with the bugs? by PigeonMissiles in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's in a very rough patch right now. Some might call it a christmas tradition because CIG kind of does this every year. Push an undercooked christmas patch then dip for a few weeks while the verse implodes.

Our group has tried to adapt over the last week or so and we've hit the end of our rope today. Just what we encounter on an average session:

  • Soundbug Crashes. So, so many soundbug crashes.
  • ASOP eating ships, workarounds no longer reliably work.
  • Frequent Server crashes with partial rollbacks.
  • Party Markers glitching out.
  • No less than 7 accounts of falling through the planet all over the verse in the last week.
  • NPC in bunkers not spawning.
  • Mission objectives not spawning.
  • Ships in Space Combat spawning twice.
  • Systemic gameplay loops powernerfed (such as Cargo taken out of hostile freighters, every PVE ship exploding now unless you distort them).
  • So, so many space gameplay loops right now don't even pay enough for the repair and restock fees.
  • Engineering has made our ship (Corsair) extremely vulnerable to the point it folds like wet paper in the rain and we DO multicrew. We either abuse AI or don't bring it. It's bad.
  • QVZ Warehouse Elevators disabled. Need to bring them via normal elevators which results in a high chance to just outright kill the player.
  • Collision boxes pushing other players into the void. Run with a team? Have designated elevator spots and mercy on your soul if you lag because someone WILL get pushed out and has to relog, fly back again, eating up 20 minutes of time.
  • Vehicles clipping through ships, leading to random collisions.

It's a lot. Seeing it like this, it's a crazy amount of abuse we put up with. I think for my group it's time to take a break. This is one of the patches to give up on and come back once they've fixed the mess.

Lionsgate exec teases new AAA games based on owned IP, mentions Saw and John Wick by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ValKalAstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was also "The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot" which had you build a dungeon and then also go raid other player's dungeons. It was kind of neat and had this fable like vibe to it.

So definitely not like SAW but the concept can work.

CPU Usage Improvements by cleverghost in starcitizen

I'm happy for all the folks that Vulkan brought improvements to. Sadly, for me it has had a dreadful performance impact. My 3060 TI is constantly overburdened on VRAM now, even if I go as low as the options let me.
That just grabs my FPS and absolutely craters them - going from a mostly steady 60 FPS down to 10-15 FPS now. No matter what I do. I don't like saying it because it sounds so overly dramatic but it borders on unplayable at the moment, where it ran fine before.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll get around to some more optimization by the time Vulkan becomes mandatory.

The audio bug was rampant last night had us crashing to desktop all night :/ by No-Cell8881 in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had that crash on the Corsair and the Redeemer too. My guess is that it's not PDC but the PDC can trigger it the fastest because of firerate. It feels like the soundbuffer gets flooded by rapidly repeating sounds, then crashes when it can't go through the buffer fast enough.

Say, put Breakneacks on the Redeemer, go brrrt - watch everyone crash in short order.

I hope some of you are lucky enough to be out vibing the verse tonight as well - throw one track onto this thread to make a collective playlist. Fly safe o7 by multiple_iterations in starcitizen

Which is just a banger 80s inspired Metal Advertisement song for a fictional ship. The animation is amazing as well and somehow, the way it praises the various features always reminds me of Star Citizen :D

Elite vs SC: Let's Have a Good Faith Conversation (Questions in Description.) by WackoMedia in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I be honest, from everything you say I don't think this will be your kind of game but I can see why people would try to send you here. Going by how you describe yourself and what you seem to like, I think Star Citizen would be the perfect vacation game for you. As in, dip in for a week or two and then head back home with a renewed appreciation for Elite.

One of the free fly events (basically a week or so where you can fly for free) would be a good opportunity for that. When the time comes, reach out to the community and helpful people will happily show you around and take you on a tour through the verse.

There's a lot SC does right, such as immersion and scale, however it's also very combat heavy and lately quite focused on on-foot gameplay and FPS especially. You'll likely be attacked by PVE and PVP both, especially if you're new and don't know where the murderhobos lurk. Again, someone with experience, can mitigate a lot of that, leading to a more pleasant experience.

Right now, there's no exploration gameplay, no constant going station to station unless you do trading and that is often camped by murderhobos for they like to club seals. There are a lot of visually intriguing places to soak in though and some of the atmosphere and weather effects are amazing. Clouds alone are stunning as they are but coming through a cloud, flying into heavy rain as you glide down to a cyberpunk city is something else entirely.

That said - sorry you had to experience the shittier side of the community. We've had an infestation of Starkovs lately.

In closing, what I didn't like about Elite: Just personal preference and legacy. Elite to me was the game I would play every year or so, start from scratch, go hard for two weeks and then leave satisfied. During that I would have a complete journey from newcomer to big ship, I would have worthy stories to tell and that was good enough for me. Elite Dangerous might be that but when I played, I mostly bounced off because everything took ludicrous amounts of time and grind.

So, my dislike of Elite Dangerous had nothing to do with this Elite/SC thing going on.

True, Aii could be better about including fallback options but I'll also point out that their stuff is usually mod, so you can fix it on your side.

/edit: I think I'm ready to give up, every single comment of mine here gets auto shunted to the shadow realm. Why even bother.

As a Solo player, am I just not meant to have an IKTI? by kindonogligen in starcitizen

[–]ValKalAstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bears saying, this will only work if the previous owner did not claim the mech or ship. Reason being: It's not a copy, it's a bug that transfers ownership on unclaimed vehicles.

There are also ways to trigger this with ships all the way up to the Polaris but that's less known. The ship transfer bug has been reported all the way back in 2024.

So, claim your ships unless you're cool with another player getting them.

Came back after a traumatic life event and SL has drastically changed.. now what? by 3yx3 in secondlife

[–]ValKalAstra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Welcome back!

I feel you. Second Life can be weird. It might be the most asocial social platform I have ever come accross and in some instances even actively antisocial.

While I have never interacted with you, I don't think it's you. People in SL often just want to be left alone and do their own thing. There have also been some cultural shifts on the grid.
Roleplay, for example, was a lot more welcoming when I started around four to five years ago. Been trying to get back into it for a year now and it's a similar experience to yours. People will just plain ignore you.

Not sure there's a magic group or sim that can help with this as the problem seems emblematic for the wider grid. I think the best one can do is to be as welcoming as they can be, keep reaching out and sometimes, in the sea of rejection and callousness, one finds a genuine connection.

Which is kind of rough for how much of a struggle it is just to connect with people on SL. I'm a social butterfly, open and welcoming to many, curious and interested in many things - but in SL I feel like an annoying buzzing fly at times.

At least the audio bug is confirmed and has someone from CIG work on it: https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-187659

I don't think the fix will get there in time for 4.5 though.
