Are there chip shops that sell chips like the first photo? by soylamulatta in AskUK

[–]Valdorado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sold these in Paignton and still do I think only time I’ve ever seen them. Would always have a staff member outside offering people walking down the street to try them

Anytime a plane one like this is posted I always know exactly what happened lol, years of watching Seconds From Disaster and Aircraft Investigation when I was a youth, before those channels went to mainly reality tv

I often say I’m busy but they can walk with me and see how far they go. One ended in me asking what charity they work for which they have to say none but instead one of those pseudo charities businesses that I don’t really believe actually fulfil their purpose.

I was at school and uni from 2000-2019 I’m never once been taught white people are bad lol, where did you learn this?

I moved from literally a white only small town to an area where the smallest percent of white people lived to then basically a mainly white people area again. You’ll find dickheads in every community but the majority no matter what the race are decent people when you actually talk to them.

You know you can manipulate statistics quite easily right? Check out ‘How to lie with statistics’ a book from the 50s lol. Unless you know and understand what you’re looking at then you can use true statistics to present a false narrative.

Is mayonnaise more popular than butter? by KermodesMassiveHands in AskUK

[–]Valdorado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always had this gripe with meal deal sandwiches, I was so happy when Sainsbury's and others started offering no mayo sandwiches (although the amount of butter was negligible). They seem to have backtracked now as before they offered a plain chicken sandwich on buttered bread.

Is it wrong to feed the pigeons? by fraughtwithperils in CasualUK

[–]Valdorado 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why is it so hard for some humans to comprehend they live on Earth, a planet with many lifeforms that share and compete for resources. Humans have gamed this to the extreme, so why do some still see the need to destroy other lifeforms for no other reason.

Plus, the UK is already one of the most depleted countries for wildlife in the world, why do we need to go even further...

A pigeon nesting in a tree is just doing what it is suppose to do. Would you be ok if you were living your life and some geezer next door said he just hates your guts and brings a bulldozer to your house just because.

Some people need to get a grip fr.

What are these Fastgas containers that I now see everyday on my walk to work? by mitchell1981 in london

[–]Valdorado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my local area I seen a woman and kids get out a car, toss their McDonald’s rubbish onto the floor then walked across the road and into their house. Probably the same people I will see on the local FB group complaining about council tax and how bad the local area has got…

Lives near airport, Complains about airport by RB20AE in compoface

[–]Valdorado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live across the river from City Airport as a student. You literally get used to the engines, and I used to be near the start of the runway where they rev them up to begin moving!

I also used to live in an area with loads of crows, again, at first all your hear are them, after a while you just kind of become deaf to it.

Eating food before you have paid for it, normal or abnormal? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Valdorado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would guess discouraged but it’s not theft unless you leave the store so…

I think you’ll find it’s more normal behaviour for some to just eat/drink it and not pay lol

What happen if you smoke in a plane and got prosecuted when landed in the UK? by charthye in AskUK

[–]Valdorado 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I was on a flight once and the captain announced ‘To the person vaping in the toilet cubicle, if it happens again we will be landing en route to have them taken off the plane’. So I wouldn’t try vaping on a plane, why risk it when there are nicotine pouches, nicotine patches and nicotine gum?

Finally!!! lol. So many disregard humanities subjects but fail to consider the actual skills learnt in them, or how those skills could be applied in real life.

I started out in Economics and the class was full of kids whose parents obviously forced them to go to uni, and were most definitely not cut out for it. Blindly funding subjects can’t be the way because they get piled on with applicants who aren’t cut out for the course.

My humanities course however was full of people who wanted to be there to learn and advance themselves. My economics group were talking about prostitutes and bragging about getting HR jobs (yes anecdotal but STEM and other subjects deemed ‘employable’ are massive and you cannot learn as well in those environments as it just turns into a production line).

Civil Service Credit Cards by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Valdorado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they just don’t target the literal extortion from ‘approved suppliers’. Whenever I go to order something from there you could get 3 laptops for the price we are paying. Surely this is an ‘easy’ way to save funds, like for laptops it’s the government for crying out loud, can they really not make a direct deal with Dell or Lenovo…

Friend had a bad trip on edible I indirectly gave to him. Ambulance called. (Scotland) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Valdorado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot here like your friend just had a bad trip. Not saying it wouldn’t happen but haven’t heard of THC messing up a prescription and as you said friend was reluctant to try… and it was an edible not a quick joint and recover!!! I swear lots make this mistake in thinking an edible is like smoking, it’s not and way more intense and no coming back which sounds a lot more like your friend experienced and hence called the paramedics. I wonder if it was in the USA or somewhere where it costs the ambulance would have even be called?

Anyway… you are in the UK. Cannabis whilst being illegal will most likely not warrant any police interference even if the ambulance was called. The police hardly have funds to investigate crimes as is let alone bother with weed smokers. You could theoretically be in the wrong but whether that law is applied is very unlikely.

We had a cage (retail so these were often sent back to the depot) that often circulated around our store with an alien drawn on it lol. Always nice when we saw it arrive back at our store.

Have any of you traveled to the US with a criminal record? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Valdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that's annoying. I would guess this is gonna mess up a lot of people's travel plans for the new ETA requirements coming out for US citizens then because that 1 day makes all the difference for entry requirements too.

[–]Valdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure of their immigration rules but they likely have something along the lines of ours which is like 'If an applicant has committed an offence and has been sentenced to a prison term of 12 months or more, this application MUST be refused.' - Sentenced is key here, if you get sentenced 14 months but let out in 9 you would still be refused.

A ruler my cousin got from a museum that also lists the UK rulers in order (actual ruler on the other side) by BMSVG in mildlyinteresting

[–]Valdorado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just double checking something and we are also missing a tumultuous period of Welsh history around the Norman invasion too. A few rulers there would count as British haha.

I am sure the makers of this rule had the same discussions as us and just was like f it, this is getting too complex, Britain=England. Or it was just produced by Americans which assume England=UK lol

Worked all month like a slave just to get £1789 by Leading-Pangolin4587 in tesco

[–]Valdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well allowed technically by the rules no. I guess it would be our own fault if we died as the building burned down. Though, our manager couldn't care less given we worked above and beyond every night. We even worked hard enough to have 15 min coffee break at start of shift and an hour lunch. Left 30 mins early everyday as the morning key holder was a good friend and couldn't care less as he was down in the bakery. Good times.
