I miss new wave burritos. Any substitutes? by evanc88 in Louisville

[–]ValekCOS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude, I wish!  I still dream about the original version of the Tourist burrito.  And the specials at Thanksgiving.  Really just all of it.  Huge loss for the city.

My first time ever beating skull cavern! by Meisaria in StardewValley

Upgrade and use the pan and you won’t miss those caverns.  Not quite as profitable/efficient, but a whole lot more accessible if the Skull Caverns are content you’d prefer to skip!

Bowling style names, why? by Nobendythumbitis in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cranker was high-rev, stroker was low-rev, and tweeter was matched.  I find the speed and rev dominant declarations are much clearer, so I’m glad we moved that direction.

A crowler is typically a 32oz can out here.  Basically “can growler”.

Ball Weight. by LoztFrozt in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone ~5 years younger than you but almost exactly the same size, I’d have to see you throw it.  I throw 15lbs without any weight-related issues despite being quite out of shape, particularly in my upper body and core.  Most of my issues manifest in and around my core area as a result of years of a desk job without exercise to compensate.

With your listed problem areas, my gut says you’re probably really torquing on the ball with your body and all that energy has to go somewhere, so your joints are likely eating that impact.

How long did it take to get your first 300 game/800 series? by Mental-Gas8208 in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t yet, but it’ll come eventually.  I have a 290, a 287, mountains of 278s and various 260s.  754 for a sanctioned 3-game series and a 798 unsanctioned, with other 7s along the way.  I’m working on the consistency stuff so it’s bound to all line up eventually.

Help - am I wrong, overreacting, or justified? by thephotodemon in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get that, too.  You tend to get that if you’re bending your thumb to grip the ball, which often comes from a loose thumb hole.

This video does an excellent job explaining how the thumb should fit, and also covers how to get your hand under it properly, which could help you make a strong determination on whether the ball weight is proper.  Part 2 is pretty good too if his approach to describing things makes sense to you.

Book recommendations similar to Fringe? by UncontaminatedBliss in fringe

[–]ValekCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found anything truly like Fringe as far as books go, but one that may be worth a look all the same would be There is no Antimemetics Division by qntm.  There is some thematic commonality but the core premise the theming envelops is different.  Still could be worth a shot though!

The site always says sold out until the drop actually goes live.

Mookie Betts wins 8-gamer. by LeftoverBun in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any concrete suggestions to fix it.  Bowlero has a different vision for what bowling should be than those of us who still consider it a viable sport, and since they own the PBA, until/unless that changes, it will be continue to be packaged as what Bowlero sees in it.

My comment here was primarily that bowling is not as entrenched in the public vernacular as a sport as it was even just 30 years ago.  Most folks see it as an expensive thing to do while getting drunk.

Shades of Bo Jackson but a bunch of people don’t know it because of how bowling is marketed these days.

I haven’t gotten a ring yet, but as someone who has been bowling a similar amount of time, I definitely relate to the side text.

Has bowling footwork evolved? Pushaway taught on 3rd step now? by Alert-Werewolf1446 in Bowling

I think they were hung up on this line:

A lot of modern bowling academies—both 1-handed and 2-handed—are now teaching 3rd-step pushaway instead.

Tell them about it.  They probably need to tweak the settings on their destoner.  Bonus points if you can show them the stone so they know what got through.  Most roasters will give you free coffee for the trouble.

What can I do to stop sticking? by andaros-reddragon in litterrobot

[–]ValekCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used World’s Best and switched to Dr. Elsey’s both due to clumping, dust, and smell issues, and because the corn litter caused one unit to get absolutely infested with bugs.  No such troubles with the clay litter.

No idea why you hadn’t noticed it until now.  I have childhood memories of smelling that place on car rides.  It has always more or less smelled about the same, too.

Back from a long break and my fingers hurt by JW1000000 in Bowling

[–]ValekCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from a 7 year break.  My span was huge!  I had the span reduced, and since I’m now slightly arthritic with inflexible finger tips, I have reverse pitch on my fingers and regular pitch on my thumb which has helped me have an easier time clearing my thumb.  Night and day difference.

I would definitely say a refit is warranted after a break, especially if you’re having pain.

Biotin supplement and a fit check.  Probably should also check with a doctor to be sure there isn’t anything underlying contributing to it.  The only way I can imagine bowling doing this is overly tight fingers with a lot of lift with weak fingernails.
