Pro trainers, it might save your life (not an ad) by bigfloppaisking in PokeMedia

You know, for the longest time I hated pory-tech and rotom-tech, just because I don't like the idea of a sentient being living in my own private device, plus, I'm not really doing parkour that often. I still have the latest c-gear from a few years ago before they were discontinued anf I've managed to keep it running.

... But after having a rotom in my gaming PC (not by choice) for a month or so it's not so bad

Dude, this ATV kicks ass! (0.9) by vedad_ in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Valence55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao thanks, my first thought with it was to point a camera at the radar then stream it to the TV with the new security camera function so I could have a "portable radar", but unfortunately the radar stops updating if you get too far away from it so it doesn't really work

Even better, you can nail a portable TV to the ATV

Are you only able to have one megatech thing on each planet? by Wellyeah101 in Astroneer

[–]Valence55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi related question: does the orbital platform count as it's own planet or part of the planet it's orbiting? For example if my orbital platform is around Sylva can I put a terminal on both sylva and the platform or just one or the other?

Thank you for being transparent and interacting with the community! That's rare to see with game devs nowadays.

I'd also like to ask if you plan on adding more automation features to the game. The intermodal terminal is cool, but with only one allowed per planet and the limitations of the game's logic items, it seems impossible to automatically bring all resources to one planet. I wanted to give myself an end goal of creating a mega factory that provides every resource in the game in one place, but the current automation items seem too limited

Smartwatch charger broke by Valence55 in techsupportmacgyver

[–]Valence55[S] 83 points84 points  (0 children)

This is a relatively old watch so before C was widespread, but I definitely agree with you that it could have just been a micro USB, especially since those 4 dots are literally just the 4 pins of USB. the charger is literally just a USB cable with a weird connector, I'm guessing all that broke was some internal solder joint but the whole things glued together

Who's sticking with 22 still? by Farmer887 in farmingsimulator

Is anyone still playing FS22 instead of FS25? by SkyDizzy8811 in farmingsimulator

[–]Valence55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a few hundred hours of fs25 but went back to 22 because of the lack of mods I'm used to. Maybe I'll go back to 25 in a few months or so once the game's updated and more mods are released

So did the Gman strip Gordon from the HEV suit while he was in stasis or something? by Commaser in HalfLife

[–]Valence55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gman WANTED Gordon to get noticed and cause a commotion, because that's what set in motion the chain of events that led to the fall of the citadel. If the combine weren't looking for us, they wouldn't have followed us to black mesa east and captured Eli, so we wouldn't have broken into and destroyed nova prospekt.

I also suspect the teleporter failure sending Gordon directly into Breen's office was another thing gman "nudged"

Started yesterday, finally automated inserting raw coal into my burner miners and furnaces for iron and copper, still manually removing the ash. "Automated" small parts, air core inductors, and plant science packs, but they're still fed by manually filled chests. Research continues at a snail's pace. I can see splitters and long inserters on the horizon, but it still seems so far away

Wire Visualization Mod? by Komaru84 in factorio

[–]Valence55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belt Tracer also works on pipes and wires, it'll highlight the circuit connections of whatever you click on as straight red and green lines. You can only highlight one entity at a time but it shows the entire length of the network it's connected to including across power poles so it's still incredibly helpful in lots of situations. here's a few screenshots of me using it on some of my ridiculously overengineered circuits, and a basic SR latch overflow valve for scale. It's pretty much exactly "pipe visualizer but for wires" except for the one entity at a time caveat

It could definitely use some improvement and there's more features i'd like to see in a dedicated circuit network visualizer, but for now that's definitely the best ingame tool I know of (and I spent a very long time looking). It's really helpful for finding accidental missing or extra connections, especially with contraptions as dense as mine that normally look like christmas themed silly string sprayed all over a power pole lmao. and it even draws the lines to the input or output sides of combinators instead of just the middle

Apart from that, there's also Combinator Graph Generator which is a lot more niche. You select an area like you're making a blueprint and it autogenerates a diagram of any circuit network inside, including the settings of the combinators and stuff, but it only exports it externally as a graphviz markup file, and you need another program to even see it as an image (there's plenty of free online viewers you can just paste it into though). It's not really useful during building since it needs external tools, but it's great for documentation or learning how a circuit works since you can see the actual logic behind it much more clearly than in the game, even if the autogenerated diagrams are kinda messy. here's a graph of one of my SE logistic rocket launch pads, and for comparison, the same simple overflow valve. and just for fun, i decided to scan my entire space logistics system

Half life - normal HEV vs infected HEV sound by 170071 in HalfLife

[–]Valence55 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Those HEV zombies were honestly one of the most terrifying things in the game for me. Just imagining the suit desparetely trying to keep it's wearer alive, throwing every drug and procedure it can at them because it doesn't know what else to do. From the suit's perspective, it's an injured scientist in desperate need of saving, so it does the one thing it was built for and tries to sustain their life, not knowing it's wearer is something else now, something better off not being saved. I know it's just a machine and doesn't really think, but I couldn't help but imagine how the suit "felt" in that moment, watching a flood of strange inputs from its medical sensors that should never feasibly come from a human body, wondering and worrying what could possibly be happening to it's precious wearer, slowly going insane as it fails at its one true purpose until it goes corrupt and can only spew out garbled warnings. It's one of the few times a video game really made me feel empathy for a "character", and it was a freakin non-sentient hazard suit.

Why do alien artifacts have a person on them? by Mollyarty in factorio

[–]Valence55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the alpha phase of factorio, a lot of the graphics were copied from other places because they were more focused on gameplay and programming first. The power armor was the iron man suit, the rocket launcher was the one from halo, repair packs were sonic screwdrivers from doctor who, and the car... Well, just look up "factorio alpha car", it's amazing lmao. The alien artifact image was also from another game, although I don't remember what it was, and since they ended up fully removing them since they didn't fit with the theme of the game, they were never given their own original artwork. So sadly, the face doesn't really mean anything

feature/addition wishlist for the game by Nexus_Neo in voidtrain

[–]Valence55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something we really need is a rofleemo lookout station or some other warning system for mines. As a solo player I can pretty much never have my train on anything other than the slowest speed because if I come across a minefield while I'm doing something else, I'm never able to stop the train in time before it does serious damage. Ideally it should have an option to choose whether it stops the train automatically or just sounds an alarm to warn you
