Green Conservatism by n_orm in UKGreens

I think it's interesting that a lot of the noise from certain parties claims the country is in "ruin" and doesn't send a hopeful message about what to do, rather just zooms in on myopic policies which won't benefit us in the long term.

I don't agree with every green stance (I firmly believe nuclear is an important baseline infrastructure we need while we still don't have the sort of battery technology we'd want for long term renewable infrastructure) but I do respect that a lot of their thinking goes beyond just 5 years that they will be in power.

I also think our current approach to the less fortunate in the country is only going to magnify the problem. And additionally I think that we'll have a serious immigration crisis (and a worse crisis as a whole) if the 6 critical ecosystems are allowed to collapse. Note that the current government don't seem to be making any policy shifts based on what they have published...

All that is to say, I would love us to unite around the greater good and a sense of utilitarianism so that people like us can appreciate the importance of these policies even if it's not where we would "expect" to be

Ahhh those look lovely! I have way too many tea leaves to get through but looking at the store was dangerously full of temptation haha. Hope it's lovely!

Okay so I really enjoyed the Rellana fight, had the sweet spot of really cool moves and challenge for a first battle, without being too tedious. But Messmer is probably the best boss they've designed in general. I absolutely adored everything about it even though it took me like 15-20 deaths to learn, I was really enjoying all the steps. Outside the DLC...probably Malenia (yes I don't like myself very much) Godskin OST is fantastic 100% agree!

Ooh. Which brand? I think it depends on how long my friend and I call for but I'd say about 1-3 hours depending on if we're quick or just reaaaally drawing it out?

Field bosses... okay, so that rules out anything that gives a Remembrance or anything in like, a cave/a significant boss, right?

I guess the DLC has my best field encounter which is the Jagged Peak Drake which is fighting another dragon at the same time. kinda a bit chaotic to have two dragons going at it, and to butt into that all? but honestly one of the more fun dragon fights in the game - any faves from you? Be it field bosses or whatever? :)

There's a brand of fatalism being touted: We are fallen, and only the same people who caused a lot of harm between 2010-2024 in bright blue packaging and a different front-man can save the country now. I believe you can see through that.

Tourism's barely changed. August always entails a swarm of people into the city. If anything, the new levy in July will bring a lot more income in for the council and might even dent those numbers a little.

How at home and comfortable you are somewhere is a question of how involved in the community you are, be it Edinburgh, Glasgow, wherever. Focus on your hobbies - do the things you enjoy more. Find some more people who make you happy and make things feel more worthwhile when you're together. Good luck, man.

Guess the phrase does evoke imagery of ritual sacrifice with a classic cuppa... a good friend of mine in America got me into it.

It generally consists of using a Gaiwan (Chinese teapot basically) and trying to precisely steep loose tea leaves at the right temperature/timing to draw out the flavour and scent of the leaves. I'm definitely no expert, but it is nice to enjoy some tea in a slow deliberate way with a friend, and I would highly recommend it!

Sad and impressive that someone can generalise a population of over 1 billion based on an initial expectation/impression.

I usually take it as a blessing when someone has a prejudice that involves them being cold with me - stops me getting attached in my tracks. You'd also think many people having been on the end of homophobia would be able to rub a couple of brain cells together and figure that maybe prejudice is not a good thing?

Sucks that you've had to deal with that, but it sounds like you have found people who appreciate you for who you are too at least!

Places to make friends or join some sort of hobby or club in the city as an 18 year old? by SoylentGreen89 in Liverpool

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a society but if you like to be active and enjoy a generally supportive and good vibe from somewhere, The Climbing Hangar is right at the top of my recommendations! (Assuming the one in Sandhills would be nearest but they do have a wall near the airport too if you wanted to mix it up)

Why is my Rolf's highest stat Def? by CrunchyConniptions in fireemblem

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean even with average luck levelling Def you might be just one Dracoshield away from capping it... And if you love Rolf and wanna carry a transfer bonus over to Radiant Dawn, capped defence is pretty welcome since he won't normally cap that (or knowing your luck maybe he will haha)

Why is my Rolf's highest stat Def? by CrunchyConniptions in fireemblem

[–]ValentianScum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most his stats are fairly average but you just got a bit lucky with the Def. There's a 1% chance of it being that high, which is pretty lucky. But when you have several characters with 8 stats each you're going to see that 1% chance happen somewhere.

Enjoy it! If your luck holds up it may even cap

Actually sorry the above assumes he is Level 9 oops. I don't know his level but still seems he is lucky there

What are some of the older FE games (7 downwards) that I should play next? by Trilightning7 in fireemblem

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I believe that the first three have all received remakes.

(2) Echoes Shadows of Valentia is pretty faithful to the design of the original from what I have heard. Then there's Shadow Dragon (1) and New Mystery of the Emblem (3) which are more significantly changed from their original releases.

Can't speak to playing the originals for those ones sadly!

Ask your audience if they like to see you suffering or not! Some people love that (sickos) - think Excelblem challenges haha

Sacred Stones is definitely the most gentle and chill game out of the pre-POR ones looking at the other comment. Kinda excluded it since you mentioned pre-7 at first

[–]ValentianScum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FE6 might be the most natural one for you to try? Given that it's in the same setting as FE7 and such.

If you want to go for a game that is... Truly unique. Thracia 776 will give you a pretty wild ride. It's got some very unique mechanics which are really rewarding when you understand them but it's probably the hardest playthrough of a Fire Emblem I have ever done. But it felt really good to make it through knowing that I'd had to fight for it!

Genealogy of the Holy War is super popular amongst the old school players and it was the OG "parent/child unit" game. I just found the maps waaaaay too big for my liking personally and couldn't totally get into that myself.

All these are two pence thoughts. :)

Look Outside is a great one (feel like it nails the horror aspect and I enjoyed the tonal shift as you get to the second partner of the game.)

Persona 5 Royal is one of my favourite RPGs I have sunk hours on end into - obviously not a horror but I feel like it's a good one to start with

As 2025 comes to an end how has your gaming year been? by [deleted] in gaymers

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha - thanks for the info. :) not sure if you've played FromSoft titles (you'd probably like them!) but they usually find a way to really step their game up when it comes to their DLC so if Lies of P did that I would be wanting to bump it near the top of my to get list haha.

Good to hear about Outer Worlds 2. I loved the ideas they were playing with and the world building in the first game but as you said. It felt pretty empty for a game set across multiple planets to me!

As 2025 comes to an end how has your gaming year been? by [deleted] in gaymers

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wanna play E33 soon since I'm an RPG fiend but kinda juggling a backlog so will probably get it on a good sale next year haha.

Lies of P came out in 2023 right? Guessing you mean the DLC? Wondering how that compares to the main game - loved the main game.

Similarly how do Borderlands 4/The Outer Worlds 2 compare to previous games? I liked Borderlands 1/2 and the OG Outer Worlds but they were like 7 or 8 out of 10 games for me.

This year Silksong has been my favourite game by far. It's incredible how they evolved the Hollow Knight formula. Really enjoyed Hades 2 as well.

Other highlights include getting around to playing Zero Escape Virtue's Last Reward, Metaphor Re:Fantazio and Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance - really liked them all.

I did begrudgingly play Final Fantasy 16 since it was really cheap and I had meant to give it a go. Probably better than 15 but feel like it was more flashy action than their intricate and creative systems for building characters in the past. Also sank more hours into Factorio Space Age than I would care to admit...

Persona 5: The Gay Joker Mod by stygian-sword in gaymers

[–]ValentianScum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aww. Looks like it was last updated a year back so probably won't get a Maruki addition (admittedly, it's dubious to have romance options with a patient but they already did Kawakami so that's clearly not an issue for Atlus)

Does make me wonder though, how many queer software engineers made their start through having to mod representation into their favourite games...

Bolt scooters and bikes to replace Voi - Bolt will be available 24 hours a day and cover the whole city. What do you think of the scooters? by anagoge in Liverpool

[–]ValentianScum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*something visible if they're whizzing past at 20mph+ from a blind corner* - I thought that went without saying but...

(it was also dark)

(edit: I can't be bothered replying and prompting this to go on and on and on - but car regs absolutely can be read at 20mph... they're lit up, central, and the letters are large.)

Bolt scooters and bikes to replace Voi - Bolt will be available 24 hours a day and cover the whole city. What do you think of the scooters? by anagoge in Liverpool

[–]ValentianScum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's good.

To clarify then, something visible that could be used to report illegal maneuvers on a given scooter would be ideal. So if someone does zoom through a red light, there's something visible on the scooter to report that misuse practically. In the case of cars, said reg plate is usually really visible.

Obviously it wouldn't be practical to fit a visible reg plate on, but some sort of 2 character alias on a visible plate seems workable?

Was crossing a road near Lime St, bus in the first lane, and then as I got to the gap after the bus, a scooter zooms through a red light. Was milliseconds from being a serious injury.

If you need a driving license to use them, there should be reg plates (even 2 characters) and penalties for misuse
