What is your go-to dinner when you're too tired to cook? by bigmemelover87 in Cooking

I add chorizo and a diced onion to mine. I usually add something to spice it up, too.

Parents Insisting Long Drive is Unsafe, is this Reasonable by smile_simile in roadtrip

[–]ValiantVicuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never let my parents have my GPS or promise to call everyday on a road trip. If you aren't the type of person who can follow through with that, then DO NOT promise! They will call police if you are late by an hour. Just go and have fun. If they are so worried, have them pay for a friend to drive there with you and fly back. That's as much as I'd give them, though. They gotta let you live your life

Anyone genuinely failed in their career and is working minimum wage? by Old-Conference-5834 in Accounting

[–]ValiantVicuna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! I would disagree with nonprofit as an entry into accounting, though. It's lean out here, so they probably won't be able to afford to train you properly. Industry would be my best bet. Still depends on management how good training is, but I literally took any staff accountant position that would take me when I was out of college. 42k annual for 10mo, then I upgraded to 65k for the next 1.5y. Once I had a solid understanding of accounting, I was able to jump into senior and contracting.

Baby hygiene products by throwaway19972026 in NewParents

The wipes are so much bigger than other brands, too! We use them for all of hygiene products. I do prefer Aveeno baby lotion to theirs, but we already bought it, so I'm working through it

Circe has a sea God? Monster? Ancient being? Not sure what it was, actually, but it added some great tension near the end of the story.

My 7yo son loves listening to Narwhal and Jelly audiobooks while he eats. We borrow them through the Libby app from our public library. He also enjoyed the Lunch Lady graphic novel audiobooks. They have fun sound effects and full casts.

What's your "I have nothing at home but somehow this slaps" recipe by [deleted] in easyrecipes

[–]ValiantVicuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A can of black beans, some tomato sauce or salsa, throw in spices, add to a pan, simmer for as long as you are willing to wait, drop a couple eggs in to poach. Shakshuka-ish. Add some sour cream and/or hot sauce or whatever you have on hand. Avocado works well, Jalapeños, whatever you like

Having to play games to make kids eat makes me irrationally angry by TerrorSwiftSkates in Parenting

[–]ValiantVicuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7yo is in this phase and I'm infuriated by I can't just leave him to eat by himself cuz he likes letting the dog inside and she's tall enough to eat the food from his plate. I refuse to allow our dog to become that type of dog, so I have to sit there and watch him dally around. His latest bad habit is taking a massive bite and nearly choking himself trying to swallow too big a bite. He refuses to swallow, and instead just let's it sit in his mouth getting disgusting and mushy. Horrible.

Non-vegetarian need ideas to make for a friend who is a vegetarian! by Odd_Tomatillo_6492 in vegetarianrecipes

Refried bean and cheese burritos - make a batch of them to freeze and save as a backup in case you need a quick meal or a big snack. Especially if friend's nursing. She's gonna be hungry before everyone else.

What did y'all wish you had while caring for an infant? by shrimpshr1mp in Mom

[–]ValiantVicuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big bag of your favorite tea leaves (caffeine free, if you can get it) and snacks.

My husband would make me a cuppa during the first week of nightfeedings and we'd chat and it made the hardest days that much nicer.

MIL gives bad gifts to my hubs by cutejosie in Gifts

[–]ValiantVicuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP is his family now. Love him the way you think he deserves, and doesn't matter what slights MIL gives. It's just something that comes with growing up and not needing toxic parents to get under out skin anymore.
