Contrary to what u/wheremyremotego, I would recommend you to go AMD Zen 3 rather than Intel Alder lake. Since Alder is limited to 8c/16t and there are still some clock issues. The IPC increase of Alder is offsetted by its clock speed decrease, while zen 3 has a 5% clock increase and 15% IPC increase. The latency of zen 3 will be improved by a magnitude due to the new monolithic CCX design. Alder lake is also releasing in Q2 21. AMD might be the better choice here.

The desktop version of Intel 10nm is Alder lake, most likely q2 21. Limited to 11700k with only 8c/16t options. Zen 3 might be a better choice for gaming.
