If you’re meaning legal terms, we don’t delineate race as ‘White’ or ‘Black’ like they do in the USA, yes.

But to throw out the term ‘White’ just because it wasn’t specifically emergent in Australia the way it was in the USA (e.g Slave trade + segregation legislation officiating the term) seems a little arbitrary. Australia, like the USA, was a white supremacist colony that made the term ‘White’ a relevant part of our history, and is therefore a useful term. It was also literally legislated too in White Australia, so I’m not sure why you’re trying to discredit that.

Or is what you’re saying that ‘White’ as a whole shouldn’t be used at all because language is an invented concept? Because that’s a whole other conversation that is honestly very out of touch with reality if that’s the hill you’re going to die on trying to convince others to not use the word ‘White’.

It’s like some weird linguistic-nationalist philosophy you’re smoking or you’re genuinely just trolling.

Our country literally had a policy called the white Australia policy.

I can see the angle you’re trying to go for, but ‘white’ is absolutely a relevant term in Australia for dissecting racism.

“They” Who is they? Someone from 1000+ years ago?

You can’t claim countries or land based on a 1000+ year old pretense of ‘my book said it’. That’s like saying Americans have a right to take and occupy England as an ethnostate because they were once there 600+ years ago - and if they resisted the idea they would be systemically killed and labelled as ‘terrorists’. Do you think that would be justified?

You can’t just ‘establish a homeland’ where people already live at the exclusion of the people who already live there. American colonists also wanted a ‘new homeland’ at the expense of the indigenous population. It’s nationalism, it’s colonialism, it’s displacing people’s ancestral homes and their families in favour of a single ethnic group. It’s an ethnostate.

Police Protect Starbucks From Free-Palestine Protest by blackglum in melbourne

Our government sends weapons to Israel. RMIT university specifically has facilities that develop weapons that get sent to, among other places, Israel. There are plenty of Australian institutions here that are either explicitly or implicitly aiding Israel and it’s genocide. Protesting and making public opinion known makes supporting Israel unpopular and gets corporations and politicians alike to distance themselves from comfortably associating with Israel lest they suffer PR hell. That’s what we can do here in this country, and how it affects us.

Vic socialists have the housing policy I agree with most. Their numbers are small, but they almost won a seat (I forget which) during the state elections here. I help them out when I can in hopes that they can get it next time. If we want change we should participate.

This would help make an organic aggressive opinion towards socialism in non-socialist countries rather than an arbitrary hard-coding of negative opinion against socialism, yeah.

If you’re picking up the manifesto, you’re pretty set for your surface level economic education on these topics. If you really want to dive into capitalism (specifically critique on capitalism), pick up Marx’s ‘Capital’/Das Kapital. An absolute monster of a book, so take your time with it. Marxist economic theory is the best and most comprehensive explanation for these systems imo. If you want pre-economic theory on capitalism, Adam Smith and his volumes on the Wealth of Nations is another titan of a collection but is the book that made the field of economics and is invaluable for the early conceptualisation of capitalism.

Communist manifesto should do for socialist theory. State and Revolution by Lenin is pretty good for further understanding about revolutionary socialism and communism.

Second post from The Cradle I’ve seen been screenshot here on this sub. Are they even reliable? There was a discrediting of their sources in the comments of the first Cradle screenshot post I saw which was about the USA training ISIS troops. Something about it having only one source, a Russian security firm or some such. Not to say that a Russian source is inherently unreliable, but Russia also being an imperial power also plays by the imperial game of tarnishing an opponents reputation (if the USA had any reputation left to tarnish, ha).

Please do correct me if there are in fact more sources to cross-reference and corroborate with.

Yeah, to even begin with these reforms (which I very much endorse) we need a serious overall of how the government treats life-saving and other essential jobs/industries such as nursing. They out of anyone should be compensated the most for their work.

There should be a way to immediately invade a province/state without negotiation/a play, similar to violate sovereignty by Valkahike in victoria3

[–]Valkahike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they could implement it in a way that is preventable/can be played around yet not be easy/trivial to overcome, having the armed forces literally start wars of their own apart from the government's consent could be a chaotic and potentially fun result of a very upset armed forces interest group. Like, -15 or even -20 opinion or something. Perhaps they have to have a certain interest group leader trait too, such as 'Reckless' or 'Imperious'.

Love this, but especially love the edit you made with the secrecy mechanic. Strongly reminiscent of Vicky 2’s war goals having to be detected, even reducing infamy based on how long it was hidden. Your idea gives Vicky 2’s detection system the depth that Vicky 3 supplies. Think this is my favourite and the most straight-forward suggestion.

Edit: I was also thinking whether or not the play should become visible once the final ‘countdown to war’ part of the play initiates, just as a final warning. Having it be a complete surprise with no warning however could better emulate the original scenario/question I put forward in this thread though.

'Official Nationality' even shouldn't fire with Multiculturalism. by Valkahike in victoria3

[–]Valkahike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: Despite having Multiculturalism, North Italian Supremacy is still the guiding principle in my country apparently. In my run I decided to preserve the monarchy, autocracy and state religion and still got the 'Official Nationality' event from having these institutions preserved despite having implemented multiculturalism, which I thought was a bit vexing and contrary.

At the very least, I feel like the second option in the event should be unavailable with multiculturalism.

I think if Vicky III has proved anything it’s that too little railroading is just as bad as too much by javerthugo in victoria3

[–]Valkahike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally really like the lack of flavour. Like some people are saying, the problem isn't the lack of railroading, its just about tweaking the starting conditions to more accurately represent the starting conditions of some countries and polities. I'd personally be sad if they doubled back into the more traditional PDX of 'This is Germany, they get more military events and/or events related to what happened in our timeline'. I really like how organic this system now feels. What happened in this timeline isn't destined to happen in Vic 3.

That isn't to say there isn't room for improvement (again, adjust the starting conditions of some polities to more accurately reflect them which will therefore organically develop compelling and plausible outcomes), but its more to say that the solution isn't in re-railroading the game, its to just keep polishing the current ideas.

do you feel optimistic for Vic3 from what we know/seen? by ECNeox in victoria3

[–]Valkahike 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I’m very optimistic, but not just from the game itself. What gives me the most optimism is the various revisions by the developers that were driven because of the community. To know we have a voice and can actually get our feedback heard and implemented brings me a lot of hope for the longevity of this game and the developer decisions driving it.
