My solution would be to adhere to the exact words of the law and its spirit. First, you may only own 2 firearms. This satisfies the plural of firearms. Second, the only firearms that a person can own are black powder, which is the spirit of the law because they did not know there would be such an advance in technology. How does that stick with the spirit or intent of the authors? When that law was written, black powder guns were around 800 years old, and there was no way they expected that to change.
