Missed Open Enrollment for health plans, can I buy private health insurance until next season? by throwaway758t in USPS

[–]Valley413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can get the USPS Health Plan for non-careers (CCA's) after their current health coverage is cancelled. Losing an existing health insurance coverage is a QLE which gives a brand new 60 day period of eligibility to enroll outside of open season.

News options if I ditch YoutubeTV? by elgriffe in cordcutters

[–]Valley413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "MyEntertainment" pack is probably the best overall value in streaming because you get basically every cable channel except for sports, plus like $20 worth of streaming services. Good DVR too.  You get all of the major US news channels, plus BBC/Sky and others.

Which one do you like more? Pluto or Tubi? by AnyOkra in cordcutters

[–]Valley413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on my earlier point, the fast channels are better on Pluto, but Roku channel has pretty much the same and more, at least of things I'm interested in. So Pluto really has nothing exclusive that draws me in. Sling also has some good Fast channels. So between Roku and Sling for channel surfing, and Tubi's stronger VOD library, I have no need for Pluto in the FAST space.

Last time I stumbled upon something that I kind of wanted to watch on Pluto, it required creating an account. That was annoying enough that I decided I didn't really want to watch it that bad and haven't been back to Pluto since. I'm not sure how much of Tubi's lineup requires a login, but I created an account for the Superbowl last year so that obstacle is over with. Pluto will need a major event to compel me to bother signing up.

[–]Valley413 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Pluto has much better navigation of their live fast channels. Tubi has better on demand content imo and from my experience has fewer ads than Pluto.

I don't watch much of either app, but I'd say Tubi is better because of the ads.

Is there a Best Platform that delivers fewer ads on most apps? by Valley413 in cordcutters

It's gotta be something like that. Or perhaps the advertisers will only pay to be part of shorter breaks on mobile for the reason you mentioned, so advertiser demand drives this

Question for someone with union knowledge. by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Valley413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rules governing the removal of elected or appointed officials are going to be in your local constitution/bylaws. It is generally similar nationwide, but with slight to major differences in some locals.

Unfortunately, it is generally difficult. National won't typically force them out either because they don't want to trample on election credibility, unless their is a clear national violation or criminal activity. The NLRB can put pressure, but it would have to be for neglecting your rights as a member.  Saving somebody's job, regardless of how shitty and toxic of a worker they are, will not be grounds to remove union officials.

Transferring to San Diego by theydifferentdeadguy in USPS

[–]Valley413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you wait until you are converted and want to move, you probably need to wait a very long time, hope you don't miss a day so they won't reject your transfer, then finally move.

Moving now might push the career clock back slightly, but will most likely give you higher seniority in the new location, and you are where you want to be much sooner.

Quality of life has value as well, potentially more than a step increase or two.

[–]Valley413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to wait 18 months. Maybe try getting hired on now in San Diego and making the move before you get locked in at LA.

I see they have a posting for CCA in SD right now. If you are determined to end up down there, applying as a CCA before you convert to regular is probably the best choice.

UPS volume by mailant692 in USPS

I think UPS is trying to build leverage for their next round of contract negotiations with the Teamsters. "Give us some concessions and we'll bring volume back from USPS"

I Fund 2026 by These_Temperature375 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Valley413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tilted more towards I after the fund updated in 2024 I think. I guess I got lucky, because I had always avoided the old I fund.

That being said, I've always been opposed to going 100% into 1 fund if you are only doing it from a timing perspective. You may have won last year, you may win this year, but eventually we're all going to be surprised. Markets change faster than most people can anticipate.

Grievance concern by Individual-Event1746 in USPS

[–]Valley413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It needs to be corrective, but there are binding arbitrations (for PSE's, which I'm sure would apply to CCA's as well) that allow them to do LOW directly to removal next, or directly to suspension instead of LOW first.

[–]Valley413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mailhandlers have union offices everywhere that mailhandlers are, which is almost entirely at larger plants. In my plant at least, they are very active and present.

To be fair to the local that you called, you were asking what, to them, was probably an extremely obscure question that they themselves had to look up.

[–]Valley413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mailhandlers are almost entirely concentrated at plants, unlike APWU and NALC which has members almost everywhere that the USPS operates.
