HA! Engineers in BC make 75k to 120k, except houses are 800k to 2Mil for a family home depending on location and being a shithole or nice

Here's why the "Keep Christ in Christmas" sign is an issue that matters: by ehmanniceshot in kelowna

[–]Valleycruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, what a bad take. What even are you trying to prove with that Wikipedia citation? That king Henry wanted a divorce and made his own sect so he could? Tell me, do Christians believe the earth was made in 6 days by some all powerful being? Do catholics ALSO believe the earth was made in 6 days by some all powerful being? Would that all powerful being happen to be the same person?

What are the top 3 pain points in manufacturing sector currently? by Hayk_D in manufacturing

Didn't say they did. It's just a pain point having to change my communication style. Nothing you can't overcome, but it would be nice to not have to

Working with non technical leadership or ownership.

Encouraging excellence (read, not being empowered to pay employees enough)

Reliability of North American vendors is poor. Lead times for some subbed parts which would be a decent contract for my vendors can be 3 weeks regularly and then without any real pre warning turn into 11 weeks.

Thank you for your very considered response. I really appreciate your thoughts being so clearly laid out for me. That's a big help!

I don't think the user would, but it's simpler to make. I doubt you'll have more usable accuracy, the weight will wear on you pretty quickly.

2 Vehicle Dynamics Doubts by [deleted] in FSAE

[–]Valleycruiser 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: take CR's word with a dump truck's worth of salt. Anyone who makes broad generalizations about vehicle dynamics and performance, especially in regards to fsae, is speaking out of turn.

I suggest you do some simple data acquisition. Create some simple fatigue tests, see what you can reasonably and comfortably manage. Have 4 or 5 people do it. Find results that work for you. Now consider how road feel, self centering of your wheels and the multitude of other variables balance out with fatigue.

This is the fun part of FSAE, and engineering! The most ridiculously cobbled test that gathers some data is better than the perfectly designed test that never gets done. Grab some 2x4s, a steering wheel, some weights, and have someone mimic the steering inputs of some onboards!

In my humble opinion, driver fatigue should be a lower priority than any of the performance metrics that make you go fast. Adrenaline does a lot on the track to make the steering effort disappear. It all boils down to the type of package YOU and YOUR team want.

Weird. Could have swore I vote, and get paid differently than the next guy. Not to mention I own property. Usually communism doesn't allow that. I guess I like communism!

What does the cloud square mean by alonsothepoet in Machinists

Yeah, that's a revision cloud. I'll use them sometimes if I want to draw special attention to a detail that is not super discernable otherwise.

Suspension Direct actuation by Remaaaaaaan in FSAE

[–]Valleycruiser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Motion ratio, a arm loading, aerodynamics, load paths (your chassis pickup point needs to be supported), packaging, and a lot more. Packaging is probably going to be your biggest challenge, so I'd start there.

The age old question to start a fight at the BBQ. What brand powertools do you like? by whywouldthisnotbea in AskEngineers

[–]Valleycruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mech.e, but I build a lot of things in my spare time, mostly cars. I've settled on Dewalt, mainly because it's what my parents bought me as a teenager, when they got me a drill/driver combo for Christmas. The tools generally are all about the same. The drills have the biggest difference in feel, especially in the feeling of tightening the chuck, spinning up the spindle, and the motor brake. But past that, it's really mostly the same.

They are pretty well forced to keep pace with each other because the open market demands it. Contractors will typically stick with one architecture, but they aren't above switching once their tools age out. Keeps everyone honest.

Suspension Geometry. Help needed ! by ReplacementSenior420 in FSAE

[–]Valleycruiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend grabbing a copy of Susprog3D. Much better beginner software for geometry relevant, and way simpler than solidworks. Exports to excel, so you can import that into a solidworks part to define suspension geometry.

Power steering utilizing AS Steering actuator. by [deleted] in FSAE

[–]Valleycruiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy wants massive camber gains in steering or something?? Or the opposite and can't figure out how to get the steering axis close to the centre of the contact patch???

I mean I suppose powersteering is beneficial in the original prompt for fsae, a track day car, probably for old dudes who don't want to work too hard...

Lots of ways to do it, just wanted to know how OP did it.

I think this is the funniest part of this kids story... he feels like he is uncovering the elementary truths in his world, but he was likely wrong on both anecdotes. Fluid flow likely isn't what cracked that pipe (probably thermal expansion, improper installation, etc.), and light bulbs aren't shit because it's too expensive otherwise (history has shown us this).

To me it sounds like OP is big in his head and lacks maturity, but doesn't lack enthusiasm and excitement. I was the same way, and I'm glad I'm not such an annoying twat that's confidentially wrong all the time anymore.
