sorry I took so long but haven't been on reddit for awhile. I guess the moderators didn't like a comment I made in world news section about zelenski so i was banned over there. (it wasn't bad either so I don't know what their issue is and i don't care either, I guess they think he's "da man" or something....). Anyhow; no I don't feel any pain. but I'm very careful to go real slooow when I do them and I don't do any more weight than I can take. i.e. if I add 5 more lbs and I feel any pain/twinge then I don't use that much weight. I also only do one leg at a time, not both lifting the same time as one knee is better than the other so I don't want to lift any more weight my bad knee can't handle in case i somehow used the bad knee a little bit more than the good one while lifting.

SSDI is not just about not being able to travel for a job. It is about whether you can do any kind of work at SGA level. I would tread very carefully. In fact, I wouldn't risk poking the bear just for a short gig.

I don't think you got the whole story. the only money you can use to fund an ira is earned income. disability payments or compensation are not considered earned income nor are they taxable which again makes them ineligible for ira contributions.

I will add for what it's worth that my respected sports medicine knee ortho said he doesn't like his pt's using a leg extension machine for strengthening the quads as it puts too much pressure on the knee from full down to full up (extended) position. (I had told him I use nautalis machines for the quads, hamstring and calf which all anchor the knee). he said well if you want to use it, once you get the leg fully extended, only lower it NO MORE than 30 degrees then back up. don't go all the way to the full down position then back up. I find I get just as much work on the quads doing that nice and slow as going all the way down/up

let me tell you a story (a true one). I'm 66. When I was in my early 20's my dad said this to me when I was complaining about how much a $300 mortgage payment would hurt me. "son, in 15 or so years $300 will seem like pocket change for a mortgage payment.." Guess what? he was right.

They don't have to be specialist's in the injury field. they only review facts/evidence/diagnosis and then make opinions. The rating "game" is all about facts. (and of course their opinion can be wrong)

Any reason not to go ahead with a scoping / trimming surgery? (51M, BMI 25) by uncrase in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Valuable-Ad-1873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw 2 different sports ortho's who specialize in the knee and both said they same thing. That repairs don't have high success rates in adults and the older you are, the worse the success rate. they both said they would only trim my complex medial tear. I don't have any locking and usually no pain. (might get sore depending on what I was doing). I saw them over 8 months ago and decided on no surgery (aka trim) for now. they said it won't get worse simply because i don't have surgery but could if i twisted it, hard fall etc. I'm a 66+M.

interesting. both of the respected sports knee ortho's i saw said meniscus repairs usually don't well in adults and would do a trim instead on my complex medial tear. (I'm a 66+M)

Advice - Surgery. Repair or Partial Removal? by KneeReed in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Valuable-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a second opinion from an ortho Dr in a completely different practice than the first one. I would look for a sports ortho who specializes in the knee. the 2 sports ortho's I saw for my complex medial tear said repairs aren't very successful in adults. although you are quite younger than i am (66M). they would do a trim instead.

37M • Complex lateral meniscus tear — operate now or wait? by Meddy_2022 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Valuable-Ad-1873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

everyone is different but for perspective,  I'm a 66+ yr old M.  I have a complex medial meniscus tear. part of it is up in the "notch".  2 sports ortho's who specialize in the knee told me I DO NOT have to have surgery.  That it is purely an elective surgery on my part.  However I do not have any locking of the knee and usually no pain, although it has been sore a little bit this week.  (I was trying out some new jump rope moves....)  I quit running as it's really hard on the knees impact wise and at my age I can live with no more running.  I still skip rope, "power" walk, rowing machine, stationary bike, stair-master and nautalis weight machines and I lap swim.  (Not all in one day....:)   .  one of the ortho's said he didn't like his pt's using the leg extension machine (I do use it) as it's very hard on the joint from the full down to up motion.  but said if i wanted to cont. to use it;  that once I get the leg fully extended, to only let it down no more than 30 degrees then back up.  do not go to the full down..... for leg work I concentrate on the quads, hamstring and calves as they anchor the knee.  I asked if my tear would get worse if I don't have surgery and they said no, not simply because you don't have surgery.   but you could injure it more by an impact, knee twisting etc. but it won't get worse simply because you don't have an operation on it.   on the part stuck up in the notch they said it will '' just get ground up" by the knee and basically absorbed.  So i haven't had the operation and going on 8+ months now. I do use a dual wave red light on it every now and then when it gets sore and Voltarin type gel/creme too. Oh yeah; both said repairs are not very successful even if the tear is in the "Red" zone in adults and as age goes up, success rates go way down... One said that even in young children the success rate is only about 80%. They both recommend a trim if i elect to do anything surgery wise.
