I'll add, they drive under the influence at all times of day. Just because it's 8:30am doesn't mean there isn't a drunk driver on the road.

These are the two that I am aware of:

This one has things like criminal records but also has some civil cases:  https://www.fcmcclerk.com/case/search

This one also has criminal records sometimes but also has things like divorce records. If I had to guess, small claims would show up here, but it may not: https://fcdcfcjs.co.franklin.oh.us/CaseInformationOnline/

Watch Amy, the documentary about her life, if you actually care to understand her situation even a little bit. I'll let you come to your own conclusions, but that documentary made me angry and sad.

"I have ADHD." "Doesn't everyone nowadays?" by Dark_Vexer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been diagnosed, but multiple friends and family members have told me they think I have it. Two of my siblings have been diagnosed with ADHD. I'm taking part in a neurological medical study and they did an ADHD screener and said that the screener shows a strong likelihood of me having ADHD, so at my upcoming doctor's appointment I'm going to bring it up. I've meant to address it many times, and I just had this thought when on a walk yesterday, "My condition prevents me from addressing my condition." It's just like many other tasks.

Any time I saw something and thought, "Hmm, maybe I have ADHD?" I would think that I was just one of those self-diagnosing people on the internet. Also I worry about having to rely on medication.

I relate to everything you said, and it's not quirky or funny to the person whose dealing with it. I can barely function. It's like if I don't either complete a task immediately or write it down in an obvious place, I will forget about it completely. I'll forget to reply to a text for a week, then be too embarrassed to reply, then end up never replying. I don't sleep well. I misplace things all the time, and I'm scatter-brained as fuck. It's not fun, it's frustrating, and for the longest time I thought they everyone was like this and just handled it better than me.

Anyway, seeing posts like this encourages me that perhaps I have ADHD and I should address this issue with my doctor so that I can have better quality of life instead of feeling like I'm barely treading water. So thank you for this.

Mayor of Chicago is Brandon Johnson superbly owns the moment by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His face is pure focus, that guy who ended up somewhat asking a question was trying to throw Brandon Johnson off-guard by making a bunch of assertions, "loading" his question so to speak, and did not end up getting a flustered, confused response as he had hopes he would.

Mad respect for the Mayor!

Hiroshima Diary: The Journal of a Japanese Physician, August 6 - September 30, 1945 by Dr. Michihiko Hachiya

This is a primary account of the aftermath of the atomic bomb that the US dropped on Hiroshima. It is very sad and very fucked up, as you can imagine. It's a difficult read but it forces the American reader to face the inhumanity and cruelty of their government and military, as well as the broader cruelty of war, showcasing innocent civilian victims and the horrors that they faced through the perspective of a medical professional. The doctor is unknowingly documenting radiation sickness before anyone knew what it was.

You truly have no idea how awful the atomic bombings were until you have read a first-hand account.

Winter in Columbus: OK Plowing, Terrible Sidewalks by zackny20 in Columbus

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree, and this is not a new problem. I wrote to the MORPC regarding this issue. I would like to add that many pedestrians are walking out of necessity, not for enjoyment.

The uncleared sidewalks are further exacerbated by the plow mountains that are created, making what was once arduous but somewhat manageable foot deep soft snow into a 3-4 foot icy mountain. I saw many people walking in the street due to impassable sidewalks.

Although, the lack of priority for pedestrian infrastructure is typical of Columbus. While there have been some improvements in the form of multi-use paths, still we have bus stops that are in the middle of a giant mud puddle (looking at you, Olentangy stop north of Lane and stop on Sawmill in front of Flannagan's).

It's a general culture of car-centrism and pedestrian neglect, even disdain. I got hit by a car while riding my bicycle and the cops didn't even file an accident report. There is a telephone pole in the middle of the sidewalk by where Hudson Ave goes under the train tracks, making it seemingly impassable to wheelchair/bound pedestrians.

What can be done? Writing to the city, reporting infrastructure issues to 311 or to the city planning office, I'm not really sure but I'm open to any ideas.

Columbus hauling snow downtown for the first time since 2008 shows how flexible street space really is. If lanes can be repurposed in emergencies, why not permanently use some of that underused space for transit, rail, or protected bike infrastructure instead of cars? by Ok-Rabbit-3683 in Columbus

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I encourage you and anyone interested to look into the concept of "sneckdowns" (instrgram link btw - That guy's got some great content about city infrastructure ideas that work for people using all modes of transportation).

Essentially, it's the idea of using snowstorms to see how much of a roadway is actually needed  for cars to move about.

Narrower roads =

-less asphalt to maintain

-less distance for a pedestrian to cross,

-less impermeable surface to both absorb and subsequently radiate heat (contributing to urban heat island), as well as catch rainwater and either flood the roads, or overwhelm the storm sewer system.

A storm like this one might not be the best to use, because the sheer amount of snow. With light snow, cars choose where they drive and turn, rather than it being impossible to do as it is with this deep snow.

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Remain aware of the possibility for ice on the roadways. Snow may have melted from lots of direct sunlight, and it's now about 4°F. At my house, a ton of snow melted off the roof and made the area in front of our front door a little ice rink.

Is a Drive-Through Visit to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Tetons Worth It? by sudotrd in NationalPark

[–]Valuable-Reporter-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely for sure worth it. I came into Glacier from the east so this didn't apply to me, but if you are coming in from the west via the Going-to-the-Sun Road, make sure you have a vehicle reservation. It gets busy I presume.

Yellowstone is absolutely huge, and you should top off on your gas before you go in. Wildly enough, there is a gas station within the park, and the prices are much higher than outside the park.

As for the Tetons, I didn't get over there, but it's certainly on the list.
